DiMarzio IBZ Stock RG Guitar Pickup Review. Listen to a demo of these amazing Ibanez DiMarzio electric guitar pickups in every position used clean, Crunch and Lead.
The old Ibanez V7 abd V8 pickups installed in the RG series guitars were rubbish. Ate these newer pickups, based upon the DiMarzio Super Distortion any better? Are these modern takes on a true Classic Rock pickup an improvement on the original? Can they play funk, clean, classic rock, lead and Metal?

People tend to overblame equipment for their fingers inabillity to dial a good guitar tone.

It’s not just fingers it is the entire signal chain. One guy here commented that he never changed pickup height and was amazed at the difference when he did so.

Amps and Pedals are more important for your tone. But the people who removed/replaced the DiMarzio/IBZ, defiantly downgraded their guitars.

They're good pickups and hold up well. Personally, I found the DiMarzio/Ibz neck too bright and replaced it with an Air Norton - much better, warmer. Replaced the DiMarzio/Ibz bridge with a Super Distortion, but I'm going to put it back to stock - the Super Distortion is just a little too much for me. Good Review!

I have an '87 or 88 Ibanez Roadstar II, aka 540P or PRO540P, the "Steve Vai" model which is apparently a rare bird, and it has the Dimarzio's labeled IbanezUSA. I had always left the pickup height alone (had it for 34 years) and I just discovered that the hieght was set incorrectly. Now I seem to get better sustain and response when tapping/shredding on the higher end of the fretboard, but this guitar has always served me quite well!

I have a Super Distortion in my model series Japanese super-playable Charvel. Had it since 1989, and it's the square lug old version. Matched the tones with the Super Distortion with the natural bright sound of the guitar wood really well. I'd had a PAF Pro prior to the SD, and it was too bright and midrange. I needed the deeper end, and full mid you get with the Super D. The guitar sounds amazing!

I used a lot of different Dimarios and I play Dimarzio exclusively.
But my perception of the DM/IBZ pickups is rather different. I could not wait to replace them.

They are indeed good pickups. I had some of these prestige beasts and just to prove myself i tried various pickups like ToneZones, SH-4 and SH-6 and always ended up putting the IBZ's back in. They are different and quite unique in tone but they bring alot of clarity to it. I just recently bought a set of these for a cheapo guitar. Great video btw! Cheers from Germany

Brilliant pickup! I've tried a lot, I use EMG for metal but these are my current favourite for everything else!

The V7 and V8 were legit. The dumb thing is the bridge was A5 and neck was ceramic. Only upgrade needed was to swap pickups between the v7 and v8 and you got yourself a solid set of pups.

I personally love the way these pickups sound in my RG2570. I think the only position I am not a big fan with my 2570 (which is a HSH configuration) is the position 3, I found the R1 single coil a little too cold for a single coil, but it works fine for positions 2 an 4 with splited HB). So versatile pickups (even metal, but you need to work on the amp/pedal)!

I have an old RG470 with the V7, S1 and V8 pickups. I bought it back in 93. On a quest to make it sound better. The V8 is too thin sounding with chords and especially when just playing notes. I want to change out all 3 pickups.

I find the IBZ pups to be hit and miss, but I suspect it's because of the guitars they are in. They just work better in some axes than others. I remember when the S/Sabers came out around '87 and I liked the stock IBZs a lot. But in other Ibanezes they are too hit and miss. Also, considering that they are based on the Super 2, it's no wonder that even in axes where the bridge IBZ doesn't sound optimal the neck IBZs still sound great. I think of the Super 2 as a neck pup anyways. I would rather have a regular Super Distortion or Super 3 in the bridge because they always hit the mark for me. But, if I heard an IBZ set that sounded well matched like in those old Sabers I'd leave them.

the distance between the pups and the strings have a massive effect.
