My psp was a life saver on my tours to Iraq. In my little free time it was for movies, music, and games. Plus I stored some pictures of family on it. Having so much bundled into such a small portable device was super convenient. Plus mine was soft modded so I had a ton of old retro games to play.

I've seen "solderless" kits that come with conductive paint to bridge that small connection instead of having to solder it. Not sure how well that works as I haven't tried that myself, but may be a good option for those that don't want to solder.
Edit: Just realized the replacement screen you linked to on Amazon actually comes with a tube of "Silver conductive adhesive". I believe this is the stuff you would use instead of solder. The listing still mentions that you have to solder though, so not 100% sure on that.

Psp was my go to device in high school. My ds broke the hinge with normal use. I tried to repair it with my family and it broke. We were poor and I told a friend about it. He told me he was selling psp and I got all money I could buy selling things to get it. So I enjoyed ds first half of life cycle and psp the other half. I remember playing on my modded wii xbox psp and ds I used flashcard. I made the most out of every console I had because I was poor. I still got games for Christmas or birthday. I wanted to play as much as I could growing up. I watched movies at school after work and on the bus. I would listen to music on it. I carried two batteries because I used it so much. I played games like assassin creed bloodlines early that is sequel to first game. I still bought games when I could like crisis core and gta games. It was impossible for me to support all these games growing up. I ended off with my senior year getting 3ds and flashcard. So I caught up on all the ds games I was missing out on because the poor build quality. I used my psp so much it's legit broken. Memory card is super slow it's been beaten up so to me it's has a special place in my heart as probably my favorite portable system. I got vita and sadly haven't enjoy that much out of it. I got steam deck and it really has been my go to over everything else. I bought over 1500 games on steam so I have huge list of games I still need to go through. Love of gaming has never died and I wonder if it ever will.

I just installed the same IPS screen from the same seller (still not sure what the syringe that comes with it is for) and with my little bit of experience, WOW was soldering the points on my MB version challenging! Of course I'd have the version with the smallest points but I pulled it off and am very happy with the results! The screen is incredible!

The most annoying thing about using the PSP in 2023 is getting good batteries for it. You Can ReCell an OG battery, but getting good 3rd party ones is pretty hit and miss and unfortunately, all the 3rd party ones I have used so far, cannot charge using the USB port which is a bummer. IF that ever gets fixed in replacement batteries, that would be great.
Otherwise, it's still a fantastic little handheld device. Plane to keep my 2 PSP's (Fat and 3000) and 2 Vitas (Also 3G Fat and Slim) for a long long time.

5:30 seeing a PSP like this triggers me. I tried to repair mine when i was younger. I can't remember what needed replacing but i did my research and almost completely tore it down and rebuilt it. The VERY LAST ribbon cable latch thing snapped on me on reassembly and that was it. Simply too tiny to repair. I think i managed to bodge it for a bit by wedging the ribbon onto the connector but it would only work for a few minutes before failing. Looking back, perhaps i could have hot glued it in place or something but younger me wasn't adept at this stuff. At least i learned to be very respectful of ribbon connectors in later life. RIP White JDM PSP-1000.

The PSP might legit be the best PlayStation Sony ever made. Been debating this mod because as mentioned, the stock screen on the PSP-1000 is pretty terrible. But my soldering skills are sub par at best. Of course there's always emulation on the Steam Deck. Even if text and FMVs don't always scale that great. Worth noting that while the 2000 and 3000 models do have more RAM, AFAIK it's only being used to as a buffer to speed up UMD load times. Which is irrelevant if you have a jailbroken PSP and are loading all your games off a microSD adapter.

The soldering part for this mod is difficult, I had success with one motherboard (barely), but the 2nd psp1000 motherboard i was working on had even tinier points to bridge. I ended up leaving it alone because I didn't want to damage any components around it. I'd just go find a 2000 or 3000 unless you come across a 1000 very cheap, but assess the board yourself and see if it's feasible.

Some homebrew games actually take full advantage of the extra RAM on PSP-2000 and PSP-3000 models for improved performance, and leaked game prototypes often will require a PSP-2000 or PSP-3000 in order to run them properly, since, devkits and all. I actually disassembled my PSP because there was a lot of gunk on the d-pad that made it difficult to play. I also needed to replace the battery since the other one didn't work very well. I think the disc drive on my PSP is faulty since it took forever for certain games to load and it may have froze a few times. I just ended up hacking games onto the PSP instead. I had issues removing the screws on my PSP because I didn't realize my screwdriver was broken.

Oh yeah, whoever doesn't know the PSP is a very good little media machine. You can download, play, and watch movies and music and the PSP had a button where if you turn it on those buttons wouldn't do anything. It'll basically be a lock since the screen doesn't officially turn off. You can use that when you're listening to music. Put it in your pocket act like it's mp3 player and you can also download, play and watch movies and music on the go

It's definitely worth it if your screen is broken. But if not, I won't bother swapping tbh. Psp-1000 screen is almost the same price as the ips when I was looking for a replacement screen so I went with the IPS. Actually it was cheaper when I ordered compared to an OG PSP 1000 screen. PSP 1000 was my favorite up until recently when 8000mah battery was made possible on the PSP Go and the microSD mod is made easier.
