Wasn't a knot issue for sure. I only had 5 inches of leader out of about a foot and a half leader. I tie no knot snell at the hook and Palomar at the swivel. I'm not sure about a record but it was definitely a nice fish. The thump literally made me jump it was so intense.

A minute and a half in, well you just said it... Didn't check boat, make rigs, check lines, you had a decent fray in your line, see ya fish. End of title. Nice eaters though. I take that back, that little curly-cue at the end of line...that's a knot came undone.
Was no knot that came undone it was a snap halfway down the leader. I tie 14 inch leaders and retie rigs after every trip. There was only 6 inches of leader left on my swivel. And I don't tie knots in between swivel and hook. Btw got a 94lb so it's not my knots... I tie Palomar and no knot snells. Never had an issue with either knot. There was no curly q at the end of my leader believe me I saw it up close and personal it was a clean break where a fray was. Everyone loses big fish. It happens.
No knot snells undone look like a very obvious corkscrew for a wine bottle. So yeah

Man, I don't even mess with circle hooks without pliers anymore. Too many close call being hooked while struggling to unhook my fish. And as far as eater catfish go, for me, I only eat Channel Cat. Not because Blues and Flatheads don't taste good, because they do taste good. I love eating Catfish! But Blues and Flatheads could become monsters one day and a Channel Cat simply isn't gonna grow that big in a normal lifetime. I didn't always think this way either. I've cleaned and eaten plenty of Flatheads back when I use to set and run trot lines. But over the last 20 or 30 years I've gotten much more conservative. I haven't set a trot-line in 30 years or so. I do try and throw out a dozen or so jug lines out with single hooks. I use small cut bait on them with small hook, Sometimes even chicken. But the jugs never fail to provide good results.
Thats awesome man I'm all for the preservation of catfish in general. Although sometimes I do get the taste for some nice fillets. Then I'll keep a few 10 pounders or less to fillet out. I haven't jugged in a while tho.
You wore them out big time. If you get a bigger boat you can pile more uneeded junk in it

Yeah, you can always tell when it's a big one by the thump. and it literally startled me he thumped so hard. Speaking of suspending that is. That last trip where i was skunked was an exhausting trip. Just getting over the Covie still kind of weak, hot, and no fish. Went home and took a nap, I can at least catch some zzzz's haha
