I have. I've used frozen finger mullet too. Channel cat seem to like the saltwater baits better. When I'm in a pinch and don't have bait I'll buy something frozen just to get on the water. It still doesn't beat Sonny's super Sticky.

Hello Dave new follower. Great channel love what you do thanks again I hope you get 2 million subscribers much love and respect from your loyal soldiers in Boston
If you need skipjack, I'll give you 20 frozen whenever you want. I know they aren't as good as fresh but I'd give them to you for all you've taught me in your videos.
If you can find any hornworms eating the tomatoes and peppers in a garden get them. Catfish love them and they are tough enough to catch more than one catfish.
They are a huge caterpillar that turns into a big moth that looks like a hummingbird. The first time I fished one was because I found it eating my jalapenos so I took it to a local pond and it was the best bait ever. Big catfish aren't in the waters I've fished them and mediums are scarce but the blue and channels go nuts for them.
I've used squid, shrimp and mullet. Mullet is great but I have to get down to the coast to find any. I usually make a beach trip once a year fishing on the National Seashore. When I do I always bring back 5 or 10 pounds of mullet. Even frozen it works good around here.
I think whole squid works better than cut squid, if u go to an Asian market there is lots of fresh bait to try fir bait(squid, mackerel, whole shrimp, carp and tons of different types of smaller fish)
I have good luck with fully cooked shrimp for Channels in Michigan & a guy I know uses uncooked w garlic powder. I even refreeze the shrimp & use it again. Pork Chops work as well.
I would run a Santee Cooper rig with a stinger on the head of squid works good for halibut in california don't see why it wouldn't work for catfish it's a vary lively bait with tentacles flopping in the current I may haft to try that in my neck of the wood's
Dave that squid is called calamari because it's process that's why it's white there's no guts in it and the heads not attached it's ready to be cooked that's why it cost so much regular bait squid has its can its guts and the heads attached it's got that it could be a purple e or a blue and brown is color skin on it that might have worked really well because it's bright white when the skins off and it's a lot stronger smelling with the guts in it then salty smell just educating a little bit I came from squid Land California have a good one I love your show
I use an assortment of baits some time but I often put a few drops of crawfish oil on the bait witch seems to help. The river I fish the most every cat has a belly full of crayfish. The oil I use is from the trapping supply store and is formulated to be weather proof ,just be neat about it as when you park your boat every racoon in the area will be wanting to check out your boat. Hot dogs and crawfish oil work good for me.
man im so glad I ran across your channel, I had bait caught and was ready to go today but my little girl turned up with a fever so I watched you fish instead!
Sure Knoxville has a big Asian market around there somewhere, one big enough to have a fish market. They'll have 50 different kinds of fish and piles of shrimp and squid. Squid 12 inches long or longer. And a pile of money less than Ingles.
Maybe try salting the chicken or old skipjack. Some people swear by menhaden, herring, or other fish oil but the oils contain a bunch of salt either by accumulation or salting the fish to get the oil out.
Those Catfish were probably going what the heck is this stuff, I'll try it anyway!!! I was thinking the about your last video Dave, too young for love sounds like a Motley Crue song!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The shell on the shrimp will throw off the fish. They smell it and taste it but the shell throws them off and they spit it out. That doesn't happen every time but often enough you want to remove the shell.
We always used wax worms trout fishing. Like a secret weapon. Well one time I took some shrimp from the grocery store. Shit worked better then waxworms. Stayed the hook easier. Just a easier Bait to use. If ur wax worm isn't on the hook perfectly covering the eye. They won't hit it. They don't care what shrimp looks like on the hook.
My experience with shrimp is to cast and hold rod with my index finger hooking the line. Set the hook when I feel the slightest bump. I reckon shrimp is easy to get off the hook.
The bumping at watts bar never really produced big fish for me. Fishing behind the turbines did. It is loud but maybe next time you could show us those.

Dave. Magic8 says you need to peel the shrimp before fitchin with it. Where is the fordy doller bucket at? Do the waffle house waitreses like it better since it has a softer chin strap on it compaired to the metal wire on a regular bucket handle?
There is a squid called the calamari. Most squid sold as calamari aren’t calamari but in New England deep frying the squid rings makes it calamari. Your catfish might be attracted to the salt, especially with their barbels. A British angler I watch as just found out some fresh water fish like marine worm- same thing, salt. Boughten squid falling to pieces- that shit is bad. Another attractant I’m guessing. Sea run stripers like squid.
Funny, I just started using squid with epic results. I was fishing next to some guys who was using it and they gave me a couple and the channel bite was ridiculous. Tried another lake this past weekend and caught 3x more on the squid than anything else.
well that's a new bait to use that I never thought of and the thing about it is I'm learning try to use chicken some of them use hot dogs soaking Kool-Aid chicken soaked in Kool-Aid and other things and I I have tried straight chicken but it seems that chicken livers is another preferred bait of a catfish but that's good that's okay anything is possible
I've never used it for fishing but I brought some jerkeyed squid with me and had someone get drunk enough to eat it all. Did not ask what it was like later.
