I don’t play Magic. I don’t know anything about Magic besides how amazing the art is. I’m just here because your reviews of card cases are the best on UA-cam, I have a ton of board games and card games to sleeve and protect, and your voice is awesome! Keep rocking it.
I was never really interested in these kind of card games except to some of the other common card games like poker, phase 10, etc, etc but I gave it a try one day because of a friend. I gotta say I'm addicted and I'm always itching for a game lol and I'm 29 about to turn 30.
The music that played when he started talking about the gamegenic almost always signifies something good or something Prof has all the praise for. I love when that music starts, I can always expect greatness.
Montage of the Prof shaking deck boxes, you say? Why, yes. Yes. I am saying that. Because I want it. Give it to me. Cut all the talking; I want no context, just pure Prof jiggles.
I love how I haven't even played Mtg in a like a year or two, but I still watch these xD Love watching your content and the state of the game if I ever get the chance to go back to playing it
I have a super hive, and while it fits my needs, I have always felt that the issue with the lid would be solved simply by having the compartments the other way round decks at the back, mats and dice tray at the front.
I am deep in spring cleaning right now, been in this apartment almost a year and late May is the first time I can finally organize the whole apartment. Your product reviews are the perfect entertainment to play while cleaning. Lots of audio content and charming video moments that you only need to peek at a moment other than the hilarious few seconds of shake tests that keep me from getting too into the cleaning, keeping me from absorbing the information. I dont need to focus too hard to follow, and learning about what products are good to buy for a Magic player wanting to spend wisely!
I've always been a huge fan of Ultimate Guard, largely due to your video reviews. But after seeing your reviews of the Game Genic products, I think I'm gonna start giving their products a try. Thanks as always for the informative review!
What perfect timing! I've been buying the Dex Supreme Game Chests for a while but wondered if any better alternatives were out there. That's when I found your old video of the Legion Garage. Only to find out it was discontinued, and revived as the Continental. Yet i didn't see any video reviews on it so I figured I'd wait. Only...that was just two nights ago, so I didn't have to wait long at all!
I bought the GameGenic Dungeon for my cube when I saw your test of their Stronghold. I have been quite impressed by both. I was sure you would be loving it.
For those looking to store double sleeved cubes or battle boxes, really appreciate the notes and examples of storing "loose" cards instead of only deck boxes. Hoping this is a new standard in your larger box reviews.
Ordered a playmat good sir! You are the most real person on youtube and I got into magic because of you, thanks for the opportunity for me to give back and buy a playmat!
15:55 COVID has inspired some weeeeird workout routines, but whatever keeps you healthy. Am I saying I would watch an hour of Professor shaking boxes? Yes. Yes I am.
It's always satisfying seeing someone give a review that involves a shake test. The Gamegenics looks pretty pimp and for the price, is a good deal. Thanks for filling us in Professor!
Your my inspiration professor! Im so happy for you that you found a way to make a living from your passion. You are blessed. Thank you for showing me we can all life our best lives!
Hey prof... Wanted to say thanks for making this video. Not just for all the good work you do in reviewing products, but because these videos are peaceful and calming to listen to in a time where nothing seems peaceful or calm. It helps a lot.
Just got my 2 GameGenic Strongholds that I purchased due to excellent review. They did not disappoint!!!! Exceptional product in every way, down to the packaging. Thanks for the great recommendation Prof! Keep up the amazing work you do reviewing products and being a representative voice in the community.
Already by the Legion, we find what I like best about the prof, the combination of pedantry and rationality. Pointing out these minor flaws that most people won't care about, but many will appreciate the warning of, whole each point is thought out, has a reason to be told, and noone could reasonably call then superfluous, even the most minor ones. In total, they add up to a product review that doesn't feel bloated, but I also feel like everything I could reasonably want to know is covered. And besides the main point above, you seem like you're having a lot more fun than your earlier videos. It's good to see you enjoying the work you do.
I have my cube in my HyperX Headphones box it's the best electonics box I've ever seen and it holds a cube PERFECTLY. And it's the same price as these empty boxes you get the headphones as a bonus XD
Ooh! I'm early! Hi Professor from Australia! I love ya work and what ya do for the Magic community. You have inspired me with your heart and passion for the game. Thank you for all you've done
when i saw your hands at 1:10 , I thought you were wearing white gloves, but then I noticed it was the lighting! god prof, you're turning into a ghost!
Game Genic does it again! Nexofyber: the professor's best frenemy! Wait, people wash their playmats? No drinks on the table, period. I will call a Judge.
Thanks to you I'm getting a Quiver, one in Teal. I'll be using it for my Modular commander deck. I'll also be getting a custom playmat of Otrimi as Pandora, opening the pithos, using artwork made by myself and colored by a friend. Thank you, Professor. ♥
Prof definitely had his coffee for this one! I'm not even in the market and I was so entertained. Should do a QVS-style livestream showcasing products!
I believe the reason the legion Continental lid holds better over the top then under the bottom is probably because it is using only half the magnets when put under the box. At 4:58 you can clearly see 4 protrusions where the magnets are that hold the lid when closed. You can also clearly see where the same magnets would be for use when the lid is under the box the place where two of the magnets would be is replaced by a air. You can still see the protrusions for the two outer magnets but just empty space where the inner magnets would be. This is why the lid is so much more secure over the top then under.
I have the new Ultimate Guard SuperHive, and I think most of your criticisms are spot on. I love mine, but I also have a very specific use for it. Like your review of the Continental, I'm not terribly worried about the magnets, because I'm using mine for a small Old School cube. I have very few local friends with Old School cards, so it allows me to have everything I need in one nice box to set up two or three of them when I have them over to play the format with me. It looks nice, and the only transport I'm using it for is from my hall closet to my kitchen table.
Great vid Professor. Personally, I'd have given the last one an A as opposed to an A+ purely because it did open after you shook it (albeit considerably). Test to destruction is what i say!
The kind of weat that the continental displays are actually a bonus for me. Whereas I prefer my cards to be as intact and undamaged as possible, the scuffmarks and dents on the box are for me a form of patina. Think of it like a well-worn leather jacket; I find that VERY attractive.
After having a very lucky day w/ my Double Masters lottery tickets, I now realize I am FLUSH with cards and needed storage and thank goodness you're here
I’ve got two of the Legion Continentals for my commander collection. Very pleased with them. They don’t travel and have been very secure just sitting on a shelf while looking good. Using a Quiver for going places with decks. But that said... I’d probably pick up the Dungeon instead after seeing this review. Price is better, holds more cards and seems to serve the same function without trying to be clever with what it can store.
A couple years ago, my family would go to our LGS and play Standard. Each of us had a deck, each of us had a playmat. Packing all of those, and bringing a couple extra decks as loaners meant the Superhive was a great investment. It worked perfectly for our situation. But since our work situation changed and we stopped playing Standard, we've barely touched the Superhives.
as i was watching this video i went straight to legions website to order the continental but before checkout the review for the dungeon started and thankfully i did not purchase the continental. i was searching for something exactly like the dungeon and boom here is the prof coming thru.
Stanley deep professional organizer is both more durable and easier to carry thanks to the handle. A bit large and awkward I suppose, and hard to find. But man am I happy with mine. Each ones holds 12 boxed commander decks.
I have the 2020 superhive and it suits my needs and love it, carries a couple of my decks, some dice and my playmat all in one easy box, love the design and the feel, I don't hold it upside down
HAHAHAHA... The Prof. is back at it again... "or get some Tabasco sauce on it (a playmat)". Wow I laughed harder than I should have... ;) Thanks Prof. for making my day brighter and doing this so I know exactly what I want to buy!
For future reviews on these large deck boxes, can you show how much 'flex' the bottom panels have when it is full while holding one end? If these are on my shelf, I'd probably hold it from one end and pull off. This also shows that the manufacturer considered this design rather than use the same materials on the smaller sized boxes. Great video! I love these!
If you pause at 4:54 you can see why the lid in open position is weaker: in closed position there are 4 magnets holding it, in open position however only 2 at the corners.
I saw one of those dungeon deck boxes at my game store. I was curious as to its quality before buying it but I now feel pretty secure in getting it now. After building so many decks I don't have a lot of unsleeved cards left so I can fit all my remaining ones in it.
Bought the Garage after your review. It certainly isn't made for transport. My biggest gripe is that the middle is glued in instead of sown in or affixed another way. I've had to superglue it back in 3 or 4 times now. The only other issue I had was the lid sinking next to the walls. I am a bit disappointed that the Continental and Dungeon appeared to also have a middle divider that was glued in.
Feedback - whenever reviewing a deck box that is designed to be (or could be) used for cubing, please include a visual representation of a few cubeamajigs going into it, as well. Thanks for the great content!
I own a Comic/Game shop. The ComixLounge, in San Diego County. The past few months have been crazy with the shutdowns. We just opened back up to walk in customers and 8 Person max in the game lounge. SmartHive!! I can't keep them in stock. So much so, I never got the chance to open one. I'm going to keep one for my cards now after i get more in.
Professor you are a true inspiration! Love the videos, the review, everything! You have helped me immensely with your reviews to help me decide what fits my needs. The shake tests are the best part!
I like ultimate guard because it's all snug inside. My cards are safe in my boulders, and my boulders are safe in their thing. I normally use an archive with 5 boulders in it (100+) one for my deck, one for extra sleeves, one for dice, one for any cards I pick up there, and then one for my 2nd deck. draft, prerelease, bundle rumble etc gets a 6th boulder for mainly pre sleeved lands. It's nice to not have to worry about sleeving lands or getting the right amount of lands you want from the mana station. But then I switch to the (80+) sized ones. Edit: Not that I play anymore, although I might start playing again, draft, EDH, or modern since modern only uses like 6 meta decks
If you want to use sleeved tokens on the smart hive you can use some (but not all) perfect fit sleeves in that compartment (the ones that feel "too short" or sideloaders, i.e)
My mom got me the GameGenic Dungeon for Xmas and I was more happy to see there was a A+ approval sticker from the Prof on it than getting the actual box, my mom was so confused xD
I was really excited for the Blackfire Garage when I saw your video on it, only to find out it was unavailable, with a refresh coming at some point. I bought the Continental almost immediately when it came out, and was disappointed when it failed my own shake test (I didn't have enough deckboxes, and had three loose decks in with everything else). Wanted to thank you for the perspective here. It doesn't need to be incredibly shake resistant -- that's not the point or the use case here. Other than that quibble, it's been really great for my needs.
Prof, when will you create a table in which we can compare all the reviews? Maybe and updatable one, like a sheet on drive or something... For as much I love to watch your video, it would be nicer to don't have to rewatch all the 31 video about the boxes...
Me: has no need or desire to buy anymore deck boxes or cases
Also me: hell yeah, The Professor has a new review video up!
I'm exactly the same. No need for any of this stuff at the mo, but his reviews are just genuinely good vids.
I get so hyped, the entertainment value is way up there
same
I don’t play magic or have any cards and i still watch the prof constantly
I don’t play Magic. I don’t know anything about Magic besides how amazing the art is. I’m just here because your reviews of card cases are the best on UA-cam, I have a ton of board games and card games to sleeve and protect, and your voice is awesome! Keep rocking it.
Give it a try, maybe you'll like it :D
It's ok, we accept all degree paths at the community college
I was never really interested in these kind of card games except to some of the other common card games like poker, phase 10, etc, etc but I gave it a try one day because of a friend. I gotta say I'm addicted and I'm always itching for a game lol and I'm 29 about to turn 30.
I'll never not love watching the Professor shake deck boxes.
The look of sheer, unbridled terror is unmatched
Summer blockbusters spend millions to provide me with the same amount of excitement the prof gives me by shaking a box.
And throwing them
Hehe, he really tuckered himself out this time. Totally has me sold on the Gamegenic Dungeon!
"ten - nearly half a dozen"
i guess i'll give a pass on this one, since he's an english professor and not a math professor
Ten - T = en
Doz + en = Dozen
He's right, Ten is almost half of dozen.
He meant to say nearly half a two dozen.
Proff is open about his math skills.
In statistics you round up.
technically he had 11, but im sure if he really tried, perhaps the literal 12
prof gonna be ripped at the rate he's shaking.
Prof is Josh Lee Kwai's personal trainer.
listen, I'm just saying, we've never seen the Professor without his sweater vests on, he could be totally jacked by now
I hate that image, that is quite possibly the worst thing i have ever imagined
"Do you remember that Mervyn's commercial?" I do, professor, and yes, I am over 30.
I think of that comercial every time he does that.
*sigh* Yes, me too. I was even thinking of it before he even brought it up.
That was the most annoying ad. Now I miss Mervyns. Wards too.
"I'm not wearing shoes." Ouch
*loud zoom meetings in underwear*
A Boulder to the foot is no laughing matter.
I was looking for this lol
The music that played when he started talking about the gamegenic almost always signifies something good or something Prof has all the praise for. I love when that music starts, I can always expect greatness.
Its either that or a Kerbal is about to get in biiiiig trouble.
Oh is that from ksp? I haven't played it enough to recognize it. That's neat to learn though.
I used to play Scribble on Miniclip and the music is almost the same
Ah yes, the leitmotif of quality
Montage of the Prof shaking deck boxes, you say? Why, yes. Yes. I am saying that. Because I want it. Give it to me. Cut all the talking; I want no context, just pure Prof jiggles.
This would be great. *shake shake shake*, rating, next *shake shake shake* ...
My prof don't jiggle jiggle, he shakes. 🤣
I'd give that video a like!
"Nearly half a dozen"
"11"
👀 That's almost a dozen = 12.
I guess its just another colloquialism 🤔❔
Give the English Mayor holder a break.
I love how I haven't even played Mtg in a like a year or two, but I still watch these xD
Love watching your content and the state of the game if I ever get the chance to go back to playing it
Try Commander if you haven't - C18 and C19 decks are cheaper than C20, and are really fun.
@@eliakimrodrigues I'd try anything really, I just don't have people to play with. Maybe someday 😅
"Or spill tabasco sauce on it..." There is a story to be told here.
Yeah that was just a little too specific.
Just a quick note, I use Dragon Shield sealable inner sleeves for my tokens and they fit perfectly in my smart hive (the inner compartment).
Last time I was this early, the Fetch lands were still available at a reasonable price
So literally before they were released?
@@manuelito1233 Yes
Proxy
They sell proxies online for 3 bucks. Most people can't tell the difference.
@@luispolanco5966 If you get the expedition versions, it's EXTREMELY hard to tell the difference visually. Basically the feel is all that's left.
I have a super hive, and while it fits my needs, I have always felt that the issue with the lid would be solved simply by having the compartments the other way round decks at the back, mats and dice tray at the front.
"8,9,10 nearly half a dozen 11." clearly and English man not the mathematician or does it count as both.
prof: I'm not wearing shoes.
Come on, we know you ain't even wearing pants lol
I am deep in spring cleaning right now, been in this apartment almost a year and late May is the first time I can finally organize the whole apartment.

You massively increased the on screen tension during your shake tests.
This was high drama, and I'm living for it.
Shake your dreams, Prof.

I own a smarthive and I usually use that ”PLAYMAT” for Rolling dice. I have found that it works great for keeping the dice from falling of the table.
The Gamegenic box is at my local store so I may have to pick one up soon for my Keyforge cards. Thanks for the recommendation and review prof!
Its amazing. just got mine in. Holds 10 commander decks. Worth every dollar
It's always satisfying seeing someone give a review that involves a shake test. The Gamegenics looks pretty pimp and for the price, is a good deal. Thanks for filling us in Professor!

*The Professor at the beach*
Some guy: Whoa man, what kind of workout do you to get arms like that?!
The Professor: Let me tell you about deck boxes
Prof - "11, nearly half a dozen."
Me - Checks notes, English Professor
Me - "Yeah, checks out"
Already by the Legion, we find what I like best about the prof, the combination of pedantry and rationality. Pointing out these minor flaws that most people won't care about, but many will appreciate the warning of, whole each point is thought out, has a reason to be told, and noone could reasonably call then superfluous, even the most minor ones.
This is how the professor works out and keeps active during quarantine.
I expected the luxurious, multifunctional, low-cost Secret Lair: Ultimate Edition-box to be reviewed as well here.
