This 300gal wild discus aquarium has been my love and pride for the past year (boy was it a hard year)!

Thoughtful addition of the Red heads in the tank as they constantly graze on the sand and keep them clean and thus maintaining the water clarify!!!
I really like them, but they just got too aggressive with the discus when they started breeding

Getting the plumbing done right was the definitely the difficult bit! The scape was very experimental and it was really tough at some parts of the process too

A big shoal of dwarf neon rainbow fish would fill out the top of this tank really well and they would do well in those parameters! Really nice job on this.

I was wondering about your setup of the tank ,substrate, no substrate , filter system, etc. I have a 240 gallon tank with sump making it around 310 gallon system.
My tank is a planted aquarium with substrate temp is 82-84, p h around 7.4.
I feel like I have to many areas for detritus to hide. Just looking for ideas.

Magnificent aquarium😍 Please tell me how it is possible to keep discus fish without aeration, without an air spray inside the aquarium? Is it really about using a skimmer and directing the flow from the bottom of the aquarium upward? Thank you for answer🙏🙏🙏
Thks! Getting oxygen into the water is all about surface agitation, so as long as u have flow that breaks the surface tension, u r mixing o2 into the water. For this tank, I have an overflow, so the surface tension is broken in quite a few steps of the filtration process ;)
Really very nice. I have a 110 gallon Amazon themed tank but not a biotope. I don't have any cichlids in it. I tried rams but didn't succeed. Thanks.

I've been in the hobby my whole life pretty much. Intense planted tank nut. I've never had discuss but, angels. I know they are similar but, still a bit different. Discuss need the best I think. I honestly feel bad even seeing them in a "big" tank. I just don't think it's that big. Maybe if someone had a really really really big tank. Maybe not Amano's big tank size but, half that, quarter of it. Something like that, big big. Loaded with plants, real soil that's capped with a fine sand. Co2, incredible lighting, quality filters, etc. Just bigger though. I think fish deserve better than we give them.
Discus actually do poorly with co2 injection, just fyi

Where did you purchase these discus? The quality is excellent and I haven't been able to find a dealer that sells them at the quality.
They were imported from Peru. I’m happy to make some recommendations if u lmk ur location.

Hey, the geos were gone to a friend a long time ago. The tetras r all gone by now, some got eaten by the red heads, some by another group of geos sigh
Always appreciated this tank and nothing comes closer to perfection!
But when I learn the amount of plumbing, sump, filtration, space, amount of water used or drained everyday it’s just seems extremely complicated, expensive and artificial.
Like none of those fishes will ever reproduce or have a natural life cycle. Just an elaborated colorful painting made by life fish and plants. It’s great, no doubt, but what’s not seen behind this magnificent facade is what makes me have second thoughts on having anything like this at home. It’s like running a mini factory in your home for some extremely sensitive non-native colorful fish

I keep my red turk discus cardinal tetras and panda corydoras in 82F. Should i pump it up to 84F? Corydoras are meant to be in lower temps so I'm keepin it at 82F
Corys will adapt to high temp pretty ok. I keep mine at 83.
What fertilizer do you dose for this tank? How do you get your RO water down to pH6.5 (discus buffer)? Do you add anything to maintain GH/KH? thanks in advance!
easy green for fert. I only do it occasionally since my plants r lowlight. RO water bring down the ph without any additives, best not to use chemical to play with ph. i add a bit of tap water to replenish the minerals. I add Brightwell discus code for the trace elements

Do the geophageus ever snack on your tetras?
Oh ya big time! Don’t keep them together! I have Cupid cichlids now, and they r safe.
what do you feed your discuss with? If dry and flake how do you train them.
I’m feeding them Legit fishfood rn, also some Tropical brand and Sera brand. A healthy discus usually will accept most food. U just have to stop feeding them live food. In a few days to two to three weeks time, they should start eating dry food

I heard some aquarist their discus live in blackwater tank, is it true? The fish can lived in such tannin water?
Of course, a lot of fish live in blackwater. Altum angel is another prolific species that does, and they live in water that is so acidic the PH is in the low 4
