I was nervous too. But I made sure to use a small amount of paint and really good tape to hold it still! There are spots I need to touch up but not a crazy amount.
You can spray the back of the stencil with an adhesive made for being able to remove it. Then clean up the stencil, respray if needed with adhesive, and move on. I wish I could remember the brand I used. I found it in the craft store. It's been a few years. It sticks well and removes easily. Made it easier than taping and didn't have as much bleeding underneath the stencil.
