This is a Requiem for Princess Margarita who died in the middle of life .
My luscious mother was lightning to this song with tears in her eyes .
I was lightning to this song in my mother,s bosom with the sound of my mother beating .
This is my favorite song that smells of my mother .
I will be able to meet my favorite mother someday again .
In remembrance of late my favorite mother .
Greeting from Japan
Actually, it isn't. Ravel said himself it doesn't refer to anyone in particular. It's just in the style of a slow dance. In fact, even the name is meaningless. Ravel simply invented the name on a whim, and liked the sound of it.
Finally : a performer who understands the work ! Kun-Woo Paik delivers the most deeply-felt and most soulful version ever ! This is Ravel, this is the song ! I could cry, WOW !
I agree
the first pianist i have heard who plays the end lightly as ravel did, the final chord...
Very well played... very emotional and sensetive.
I like your version very much, seems to be the best i've heard on YT.
Thank you!
Very nice version. I think I'm going to learn it now. For a version that is closer to what's written go listen to MR himself (MR recorded a piano roll) or to Van Cliburn
Very beautiful and poetic interpretation of the piece. Thank you!
I love the speed. it really does sound like a pavane for a dead princess
The best interpretation on UA-cam on my mind! Very well played!
An interesting and highly ideosyncratic interpretation. Most pianists, I believe, would take this a bit faster, always aware of Ravel's famous statement that "I have written a Pavanne for a dead princess, not a dead Pavanne for a princess." But slowing it down a bit in this performance allows the pianist to highest some of the most remarkable sonorities present right in the music -- if we but listen. The pianist captures this quite nicely.
I feel it is too slow.... boring.
Exactly, however it feels a bit too slow
Beautifully performed. Sensitive, gorgeous dynamics. Bravo!
The best performance.
A masterful and poignant performance. Wonderful!
Bravo, así es Ravel, gracias.
Sorrow inside of me oozes out when I listen to this masterpiece
There is something extraordinary in his incomparable performance

Bona interpretació. Enhorabona
J'ADORE RAVEL!!!!!
+Sílvia Panadés i Benoliel d'accord!
is he the benchmark ravel performer?
Idk honestly but probably not. This is one of the most beautiful performances but goes against Ravel.
