Let's get one thing straight. This is NOT [I repeat} NOT a 'game'. Rather, it is a simulation of Formula One. You, have to learn every aspect of your car, the tires, the engine, the suspension, fuel, the lot. You have to learn the gears, and how the car will handle in certain situations on the track and certain situations regarding the weather. This, even now, is to my mind, the greatest simulation of Formula One you can get on computer. And that's saying something considering we are now in 2021 - almost 2022. I still have this great simulation [full box set with the thick book which includes all the tracks alongside the information of those tracks]. This simulation is what got me into Formula One in the first place., all those years ago. If anyone buys this then be prepared to put in the effort and the hours. Because this is not for the faint-hearted. It really puts into perspective what it takes to drive a Formula One car. And how you have to know your car, the gear set up, the tire pressures, what tires to use in different weather conditions, the gear ratio, the suspension. Absolutely everything.

Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix series remains the greatest Motor Racing simulation ever created, more than 20 years later (and more than 30 years after the first one) Nothing comes close
Still one of the best weather simulations in mainstream games, even today, with parts of the track dry and others wet in the beginning of the rain, dry patch when rain goes away, different levels of rain at different parts of the race, tyre wear, etc. In Codemasters' F1 series, wet tyre in the dry will run slower than in the wet, and it's like there is a force pulling the car away at all times, which makes no sense, plus they just make a different grip level each lap, there is not any subtlety.
Wow, I nearly forgot about my F1 addiction in youth, but somehow I remembered Grand Prix 3... When I came here, I expected an outdated game, but to be honest, it impresses me more than modern simulations. What a milestone this game was. As soon as I heard the sound of the engines, I remembered the 16 years old me, totally drenched in sweat, because I never wanted anything else than a simulation of a whole race.... What a game...
I've played GP1, GP2, GP3 and GP4, no joke. They were all unbelivable realistic, really fun to play and the level of detail on seting up the car was....wow. Great games, great memories. Thank you for the upload, specialy in Spa, witch was everybody's favorite track.
what an outstanding game. Geoff Crammond with his Grand Prix Series and Grand Prix Legends shaped the future of simracing as it is today. Two games way ahead of their time.
Best F1 game ever. I used to do a full race day simulation after watching the F1 race on tv. The physics, crashes and reliability issues was amazing and much better than any F1 game since
I didn't watch the whole video, but by basic do you mean just purely graphics while racing? The complete game is hugely complicated as you can alter every aspect of the car. Springs, dampers, wishbones you name it. If you don't get it right you don't go fast it's fantastic.
@@gtabro1337 Grand Prix 3 (and its sequels) still have the best wet weather system as well, simulating clouds causing different wet conditions on the track and all that stuff.

Handling was so good in this game and how the grip changed on different conditions. Good old times. I many times played hot-seat mode with friend and brother.
I was so fucking good at this. I played it on ace straight out the box on career with 98 level competition in Sauber full race weekends and realistic weather. I remember qualifying 5th in Adelaide and finishing 3rd in the race, led in Spain until the gearbox knackered and finished fifth, finally won at imola I won three races and finished 5th in the championship.
Unless you change the setting with gp3 edit you always drive the most powerful car regardless which team you choose. So, you wouldn't have done better if you were driving a Mclaren. In that regard, your results are decent but not so much great.
I cant say that I hate this type of cartoon graphic, I very appreciate this, I hope the physic, the mathematics, the taste of the f1 reality is well made.
Ah this nostalagy moment what this brings on my mind! OMG! I never thought this game was so well developed! My first F1 game was F1 2002 (EA) and it was not so dissimilar to this one which came out in 1998
Growing up and watching my brother play GP, GP2 and later myself playing them, I remember buying GP3 of my own money just to annoy my brother by me having the latest installment. And he was annoyed indeed. He even asked my mother to share the game with him. (GP and GP2 were my fathers so I never borrowed games from my brother) But jokes on me, my computer didn't run GP3 as intended because the PC was outdated, but I didn't want to accept the loss and refused to give or sell the game to my brother and hid it in a drawer. Only to find out later he was sneakily getting in my room to borrow the game and play for it himself, lol. I can laugh about it now. But my brother and I definitely had our shares of combat. Glad it didnt took too long, because I finally got a new PC and could finally play this game. Spend hours and hours with it.

F1 2018 by codies is good. But this is more nostalgic. Plus the AI is more sensible. They don't barge you off the track and run into your rear. Like the modern F1 Codemasters games. Try F1 Challenge 99-02 by EA sports. That's a classic too. Also Grand Prix Legends from 1998. The latter can be upgraded to ps2-3 style graphics and you can experience races from the 60's. Absolute all time great.
It's not often I look at footage of a racing game, and then actually sit there and watch the whole race. That was pretty immersive for such an older game. The AI seems to put the majority of contemporary race AI to shame.
This is why PC really used to be the master race back in the day. Look at what else was around. Gran Turismo on PSone? Good for the hardware but this is streets ahead.
