I only had GP1 as a kid but as a massive F1 fan let me tell you... This game blew my mind with its gameplay! Getting to race actual circuits in familiar cars was simply amazing. Until getting my PC I was strictly 8 bit, so seeing 3D cars and those visuals was mind-blowing. Time to fire up dosbox or whatever I need and relive some memories.
I missed gp 3 and 4 but man did I play the crap out of GP2, the following f1 games I played were very disappointing until codemasters finally picked up F1
Yes Gp2 is a must. If only programmers could copy AI code and rain from Gp3 and 4... However Gp2 seems always realistic and enjoyable. You found the exact definition of GP3 and 4 with the words " Uncanny valley "
Started on Amiga version of 1 - then bought them all on PC and have to say GP2 was my most played and probable favourite. Only issue i remember was that the game time was linked to your frame rate - so a lap timed at say 1:30 mins would take 2 mins real time if you chugged on full graphics, or barely a minute if you reduced the detail to minimum for max framereate. I first noticed this on GP2 and think GP3 also had this issue -something to do with the game engine, not sure about 4
GP 2 was a massive graphic improvement over GP 1. But, they left out rain. In GP 1 rain was poorly implemented. GP 3 added rain back in, but was not the revolutionary improvement in graphics that people were hoping for, so, it didn't get the accolades it deserved. GP 4 was a continued refinement of the franchise. But, it had memory and optimization problems with some OS and configs. The rain was done brilliantly. You could tell how the rain was moving across the track. You might have to make a tough choice whether to come in for rain tires, or stay on slicks. You could really simulate Senna's and McLaren's brilliant strategy (or Williams' total screw up) at Donnington in '93.
I'd rather have a decent game without licenced names than a boring simulator that's endorsed by the officials. Unfortunately I'm in the minority, or at least would be in terms of marketing, and like you say things have changed a lot. Back then you didn't need to slap names all over a product to make it stand out. Good games got the word-of-mouth treatment and the recognition they deserved!
@@KayoMichiels Do you understand the skill it would take to write software of this complexity in pure assembly? Its an absolutely monumental feat that not many people are aware of. I'm not sure why my original comment required such a snarky reply.

The graphical jump from GP2 to GP3 is astonishing.
Can you belive it's the same game engine?
I can't see that at all.
3D Accelerators came in between them, that's why
those were the years ❤
Weather condition is magic and animaton pit stop and stewards
Still playing GP4 with mods today which is still imo the BEST F1 simulator game bettering codemasters series in terms of physics, A.I and immersion!
Because Codemasters F1 is not a simulator.

So many afternoons playing GP2 with friends!!! Great memories!
GP 2 have best sound :-).
Man I remember when GP3 came out, and the mall had a whole setup for it, seat, wheel, pedals and shifter...that game was MILES ahead of its time

GP2 is really an amazing game
This series THE BEST in the F1 games world!!!!!!!
Who played GP2 with friends in hot seat mode?
GP1 was basically a first try game, GP2 a masterpiece, GP3 and 4 were uncanny valley.
I missed gp 3 and 4 but man did I play the crap out of GP2, the following f1 games I played were very disappointing until codemasters finally picked up F1
totally agree 2 I played to death so loved it a master piece

someone remember grandprix2.de? ^^
My father last updated it may 2017.
GP5 (or a same precised game) would be great
I love and I get all of them boxed version. My favorite stay GP2
A Z , . If you know what i mean...
Best damn F1 game series there ever will be done
Or in the past, QW OP
hahaha
Yes sadly im dumb and i cant configure controls to have like W S acelerator and brake and arrows to steer

There's also the prequel to these which is Revs on the C64, written by Geoff

Playing f1 games, but im playing gp2 aswell. Can't get out of my heart and brains.
Great games!!!!! i still play GP4!!!
It went all downhill from gp 2, that was the best.
you missed GP3 with 2000 Season Addon, which added the sound of other cars around you.
They were all impressive for their respective time period graphically.
i still playing gp2 on my workplace:))
I miss this track layout.
Never realised until now that the Microprose F1GP 2 cockpit was based on a 1991-1993 Williams car.
Because it wasn't, the video uses a mod, it's not the original wheel.
Anyone know what happened to Ivan? The hotlap world record holder in 1994-1995?
You missed out the official GP3 Addon "2000 Season" - as far as I know it's very rare
FloosWorld Really? I have the CD somewhere in a box...
yep
I played GP3 thousands of hours.
GP1 meh, GP2 best sound, GP3 best intro, GP4 best AI
GP1 = Best F1 Game of 1991
GP2 = Best Sound
GP3 = Best Intro
GP4 = Best Graphics And Mods
Unfortunatly GP5 will NEVER happen... due to licencing. (F1) World has changed too much since GP4...

Yeah...that's not how the orginal cockpit looked like...

video 38 of travelling across the internet
GP 3 2000?
Gp2 isn't gp2
I think the cockpit was modified, but the rest is GP2
All of these games were written in x86 assembly hahahahahaha.
And? What point are you making...

GP4 : The AI and physics were assembler and owned by GeoffC. The graphics engine was C and D3D9 written by the Microprose team.
