Honestly, I'd love to have more card game rpgs, like those Gameboy Yugioh games but with the actual card game's mechanics. Sacred Cards and Reshef of Destruction were really cool but not quite where they needed to be. I know TCG Pocket won't be anything like that, but it would still be cool.
Tbh it sounds like a remaster of pokemon TCG for GBC and Pokemon TCG 2 for GBC but as you said, "with the actual card game's mechanics". Sadly those 2 games tried it's best but with limited space and technology they had to rework some cards as it was impossible to reproduce (Like dittos transform card) but if it was released today I can bet they'd do it! That and back then they only had the gen 1 cards (with rocket added later, meaning both had every card at that point except the weird gym leader ones) so imagine cards from gen 2 to now! They could even add different tcg types and rulings to go with them! Want to play only base - rocket cards? Go for it! Want to play the newer rules with Ex forms? Pick that league, etc... Throw in online and local play and you'd def get my money :D
I would love more TCG games that did that. One of my all time favorite YuGiOh games was Duel of the Roses loosely based off the War of the Roses from history but with unique YuGiOh card game play and I would do a lot of things to have something like that for Pokemon.
Dude, I have never been able to get into the TCG, mainly because of the costs involved, but I am getting pretty darn excited about Pocket. I play Snap and appreciate that I can be pretty good without spending any monies and am hopeful this will be similar.
Promotional art at 10:21 shows you trading an English card for a Korean card. I really hope this means you can trade for, collect and use cards in different languages, and they stay in that language in your binder display. Anyway, the microtransactions are a real shame. Most important feature: win packs by winning games, vs CPU or PVP, whatever, some way to win cards through engagement. If they want to offer a season pass, even 10-20 bucks a month, to increase pack access instead of selling by the pack, I think that would be much better too.
Great video Toby! Very much agree that there needs to be a campaign, or PvE of some kind! Love that about Duel Links & Hearthstone! (6:35 Just a little note on those similarities. Hearthstone's Lead Designer, Ben Brode, left and formed his own company to make Marvel Snap! He also worked on the paper version of the World of Warcraft TCG that was the predecessor to Hearthstone! He's very passionate about card games in general, there are some pretty funny videos of him playing Magic the Gathering if you're ever bored lol) TCG Live has you go down by a certain number of ranks for seasonal resets. If you were Arceus rank, you'd be at like the bottom of masterball rank after the season swaps. I like this approach as to going back down to 0, can help prevent people who are really good from like absolutely stomping through beginners at the beginning of every season.
I think there shoukd also be in-store QR Codes for rare but free cards that people can collect by going to specific stores so it develops more interaction publicly as well.
Definitely agree with everything in your suggestions. To make it the best you need to have something for everyone. A solo campaign like duel links would be very cool. Especially for someone not interested in competitive play. Marvel Snap has one of the best on ramp for beginners. I really like the way it keeps you engaged and you ladder to unlock cards. You keep playing to progress. Chasing the carrot. It gets the end game wrong but the early game is so fun. Another thing that you didn't mention but it is one of coolest things that Marvel Snap has is the card customization. Since Pocket's focus is collection this should be something that is very necessary. Unique Card backs for your decks and unique card flair effects like stars, confetti like snap. Makes you want to look and spend time looking at your cards. The point you made about digital is so true. It should lean in into the digital since it is not tied to the physical. A few people complain that is it just a dumbed down version. But if it owns and leans into the digital, the tcg people feel like they have a reason to play this version as well. I am looking forward to play Pocket regardless but if it implements some of these things it will make it so good.
“A Pokémon TCG Pocket Waiting Room” 😂 That describes the feeing well. It’s really fun, reminds me of the lead up to Pokémon Go. Your second to last point of giving something like different eras is kind of like what I was thinking of with having holiday related events. I doubt we’ll have something for Halloween with the game launching on the 30th, but I think giving a little visual overhaul with some special cards would be great. I’m kind of thinking of how the physical TCG does the Trick-Or-Trade Boosters and the Advent Calendars, but those just have a little stamp on already existing cards. Imagine an interactive card with a little holiday scene!
Packs only could work if the trade function works amazingly. Could be just like the good days when your friend had the machop you need so you trade off one of your bellsprouts and both people are happy. It would however be a very slow deck building process. Im so happy to not have an energy card system. Why cant magic learn from this and re work their system too.
See, I'm actually very hesitant of them adding the sort of randomness Hearthstone has. Now its possible they'll keep it reined in and stuff. I'm just getting terrible flashbacks of Discover cards finding other Discover cards. If they were to add some digital only stuff, I think it would be better to take inspiration from Magic Arena, with stuff like Perpetual, etc. Now Perpetual has its own problems of course, but the concept is cool.
i imagine only thing money will help you with gameplay wise is collecting new cards. otherwise will all be cosmetic or be consumables you can buy to upgrade cards
@@cardkeepertoby yep, got the news from the youtuber “TrustYourPilot Pokemon” Essentially this youtuber covers almost everything Pokemon TCG App related ever since Live was announced, being a big critic to how Live doesn’t have features that Online had before it was closed down (and pointing out how most updates are visual focused rather than improving the core experience)
to be competitive you'll have to pay. but i think being competitive is only a fraction of what what is on offer here. less financially stable folk will have an absolutely fine time with the game as long as they mind progressing slower.
ngl, you have me kinda excited for this app. And prior to today, I honestly had no intention of downloading it. I fell into the digital card game sphere for a while, Disney Collect by Topps, and put A LOT of money into it (I realize its not a TCG, and purely a collector app, but still). Luckily, I quit it cold turkey after its first year and a half when it really became a money grab. If I download this, I fully intend to be a Free to play player who mostly just collects and maybe once in a while "plays" (whatever that looks like) Question: if NONE (or very few) of these 10 things that you've just listed happen, do you still think you'll enjoy this app as much as your hype currently believes you will?

I literally agree with everything you said in the video, great job. You made a bunch of good points
Thanks ^_^
Imagine if every card has a 1 in 4096 chance of the Pokémon in the artwork being Shiny.
Or in the case of Shiny cards, their regular colour.
Maybe they can make the Binder a story book for those cards with connected stories 🥹

Everybody, we gotta get the Chillin' Metapod card so we can get the expanded art of Toby's room! 😂😂😂😂
Binders are confirmed, according to the article on the App Store. 10:24
Oh sweeeet
@@cardkeepertoby I'm really excited to start assembling binders. I hope we can put the same card in multiple binders though

I'd like it to collect like marvel snap. Not necessarily play like it but I like the collection aspect.
Who knows, TCG Pocket might be the Marvel Snap of Pokemon TCG Online.
There is evidence of random card generation
There is a pokeball card with the effect “pull 1 random Pokemon card”
Oh for real! I must have missed that that’s great news

marvel snap actually only resets younback 3 tiers rather than back to 0.
so if you end infinite (tier 100+) youll start thebnew season in the 70s
Duel Links is amazing, I hope TCG Pocket is like that in certain ways
Digital collecting is the future it seems 📲
I just want the game to be on switch so I can play it more relaxed in my desk

Oh a teg team battle mode that sounds AWESOME Double battles
I think it'd be fun if they implemented the gameboy tcg game somehow.
ahaha can you imagine :')
@@cardkeepertoby it'd be a great way to revisit a lot of those cards.
I hope there is a mode without exs
If they don't make it where you can play against other people then what's the point
Why would they not i dont think they are stupid
@@frixo8478 you'd be suprised
I think that's already confirmed haha I agree without that would be pointless

I think they could use the real cards and we scan them into the game

I’m not sure we’ll have to see when it drops. I certainly think this game have the potential to be very big regardless of
i thought you retired
Sorry buddy I didn’t mean anything by it , it was in reference to something you said in video about someone complaining😅
Hello sir
Connect to TCG Live please.
oh how would you want to see that?
basicly yu gi ho but better
No, generally nothing like Yugioh hahaha
first
Personally I want the game to be the same as the Table Top game.
I want a way to easily play the pokemon TCG not pokemon hearthstone
Its going to be a cash grab....its a phone game....still pumped tho
