Rick is a teacher, and he is probably one of the most genuine people you can meet. He’s able to answer every question posed to him, and because he was a member of the media he understands the job the media has to do. He loves explaining the science of hockey, and because he’s walked the walk, the players love to listen to him too. He understands them, and he cares about them succeeding, as long as they put in the effort. He knows what it’s like to try to make your way into the NHL, and stay there. You can’t get a better coach than that.
As a fan who really enjoys watching him play I'm hoping for max term, but my brain thinks it more likely that they do some sort of bridge deal. I just hope the Canucks can get 4 or 5 years because a 3 year deal does almost nothing to quiet contract talks since the spectre of resigning has only been pushed a couple seasons down the road. I have no resentment for the guy and I'm sure his teammates understand that it's the business of hockey, but there's something a little unnerving about a sort of unspoken threat hanging over the team of "Be good or I'm leaving" so I hope they can get it resolved in such a way that this group can focus on hockey for the next few years when their window seems to be right there.
So at what point does a player say i will take less so you can get another high caliber player so we can win more. You could give Pettersson 8or 9 million and put that extra few million into another 8 or 9 million dollar player. We have all seen what is happening in Toronto
At what point?.. almost never, and that’s ok… this is pro sports. No we have NOT seen that in TO, the BIG 3 in TO all taking huge salaries and taking top dollar. Ur nuts.
If Pettey wants to win so bad like he says, do you think he takes a little bit of a discount to stay in Vancouver if he likes it here?? I remember when Quinn signed his contract he said something along the lines of “ When you start talking about this kind of money, it just becomes an ego”, So do you think Pettersson will have the same type of mentality?
How competitive are they going to be if they over pay for a complimentery player who can't drive a line or win more than 50% of his face offs? Also what competing team can afford him if he wants double digits? This doesnt add up boys. Maybe you can address this. He stays and makes 8 or 9 mill and gets to win or he goes to a bottom feeder gets paid and loses? Am I missing something?
Please stop calling him Lek KER i maki. It's pronounced LEK keree makee. The emphasis is on the first syllable and the i is always like a long e as in "pizza"
for whatever reasons, i have never felt that petterson is that piece of puzzle that we need to keep in order to challenge for the lord stanley every year.. and every dollar matters in this salary cap system era. i don't think canucks are in a situation where they can overpay anybody, let alone over 9 million a year for a player. if petterson insists on getting paid through the roof, then use him through the playoff run, and then find a creative way to trade/ dump him to salvage whatever we can get out of, and then move on. petterson is a good player but i don't think he is the cornerstone of sorts for us, unlike captain hughes for example, and he is definitely not worth making us having to lose/ let go of some really valuable pieces, because of the salary cap trouble. i know it's the owner's money, but i say this because i care about canucks, just like a lot of you out there do, and i'd like to see a healthy of flow of quality players come and stay and develop

Tocc's a great teacher....he can do and teach...high level of inter subjectivity he possesses. He did interesting break downs on TNT too.

I think Sidney might be one of the last to do that so the Penguins could ice a better team.
Nathan Mackinon did it guys. For this exact reason
With the oel buy out hurting this team im excpeting a 3-4 year deal with petterson.

If Pettersson doesn’t want to be here, just sell him high

Who cares he'll never suit up anyways

Pettersson needs to be better if he wants to be paid $10m+ per year. He's not even the leading scorer on this team and is invisible many nights.
