Fightlite SCR is cheaper, BRN-180 even less, and the FM-15 is cheaper still. I think the Sig is cool, just too damn expensive when good alternatives exists for way less.
James, don't forget about the SU16. It would be cool if you got one of those and maybe see what you could do to upgrade it. See how far you could push it and how it performs.
Mini 14, m1 carbine, m1 garand, Ruger pc carbine, SKS, saiga hunter stock AK. All universally seen positively. Mcx-R ? Apparently the worst thing to ever exist.
It’s worst when it comes to pricing. Still haven’t heard arguments for why it’s worth the $3K+ price tag compared to the alternatives you’ve already listed. Heck, a Springfield M1A looks downright affordable compared to the Regulator.
My first thought when I saw this gun was of my Mini 14. I love that rifle, but most do not. So I’m happy to have another non-AR 223 semiauto. And I trust Sig to do it right.
Yeah, I agree that Sig should make it more like an AK, they already started with the safety, so they may as well continue with the mag release and charging handle.
I'll give Sig credit for trying to get into the ban state market. They recently got a variant of the p365 on the California safe handgun roster and they license they p320 FCU to Franklin Armory to put in single shot frames
I own the OG gen 1 SCR and the 14 lb trigger and it has as much resistance as pulling a brick through colonoscopy. I swear it feels like a 30lb trigger
It's a ranch rifle, not a close-quarter combat gun. The position of the mag release is WAY down on the list of priorities in such a gun used for hunting/plinking. BUT.... the price of such a gun should be way high on the list of desirable features, which this, of course, fails at its current msrp of THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
In my specific banned state of CT, long guns can have threaded barrels legally without concern. However, CT law does ban semiautomatic long guns w/ flash hiders specifically. But oversight allows for compensators.
I'd rather take the Regulator or the SCR because they can take some AR parts over the Mini 14. Even with the grip position switched, I still perfer the AR controls.
James' sense of humor compels me to watch his videos. Sig's rising profile and performance in the industry lately compeled me to watch this one. But this video reinforced my fondness (fetish) of Ruger's Mini (.223/5.56, 300BO & 7.62x39).
Well you could get the fightlite SCR lower and then put on a side charge handle AR upper or any other standard AR upper and fix the handling issues. Cool gun nice looks.
You do you James. If you want to pretend to be Luke Skywalker scaring the sand people away from Uncle Owen's farm, be my guest. As for me, this gun brings back ugly memories of the days of the assault weapons ban, when manufacturers were removing pistol grips, bayonet lugs, and whatever else they needed to in order to comply with the new law.
Is it just me who doesnt found 1.5 moa that impressive ? Specially when shooting 77 grains from 1/7 barrel. Piston operated is only small part. Must have either bad barrel or otherwise loose tolerances. Would be more acceptable from gun which cost 1/3 of price but this just doesnt sound good at all.
honestly, drop the price by a grand and a half and I'm there. It's at least something different than whatever multitude of variant of AR/pistol grip rifle is out there right now. Variety is good! That being said, the price is really the problem, although folks here in ban states would prefer it to a weird pistol grip rifle configuration and could pay for it (they generally do make more money). There is actually competition here in this category now though. -FM15 Ranch Rifle with a side charging handle that can also take BRN-180 uppers. -SCR lower that you can pair with your favorite AR upper. -Mini 14/Thirty. Proven Design. -For a larger bore, M1A. -For budget options (and if you can find them), Kel-Tec's SU-16 and RDB Hunter. All of them for around a grand or so, if not cheaper. Sig being a large company helps, but Ruger, Kel-Tec and Springfield are those as well. The MCX is the best rifle, but like the XM8 vs the M4/M16, is it that much more better than say a Mini-14 to justify a 2 grand increase in price?
Not bad for banned states that don't have many choices, but the price point is discouraging. Also some cites/states you can't have a threaded barrel, or any sort of break or flash hider.
I don't think that people hate the rifle. Sig is just insane with the MSRP on this rifle. How can the Spear LT be cheaper? It just seems that Sig is trying to recoup their costs on the Government contract by raping the civilian market. There are better options out there at a much affordable price.
Foxtrot Mike has a "Ranch Gun" just like this... with a intermediate length gas piston system, side charging handle, and compatibility with Magpull shotgun stocks. It costs about $1000. Admittedly it lacks other MCX compatibility - but still.
Tacticooling old designs is like getting a boob job. The tactical lever gun is the highest rated plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. DDs with just the perfect amount of give to look real with no scars showing. The Regulator was some Hispanic dude behind a Wendy's with one of their plastic forks. One nipple looking at your left foot and one nipple staring at the corner of the ceiling.
It's literally just an mcx with a different stock... you aren't losing basically anything you'd get on a normal mcx. Can you not just be happy that banned states can have an mcx?
@@JTheraos The stock is a big part of the original design, if they change it then the ergos change. Now you have awkward reloads and looser cheek weld. It doesn't do anything the SCR doesn't do and is heavier and loses compatibility for the vast range of AR uppers. Moreover the Regulator isn't even designed for all ban states, it's marketed for the Californians because of the muzzle brake. Shooters in NY (and probably others) still can't use it from the factory without having to pin and weld a thread protector. I'm happy that it exists, maybe just so that other competition will pop up for ban states.
I don’t like the price, it’d also be better neat if they had shorter barrel configurations; the 16” protruding out isn’t bad but it’s look neater if less exposed. But then, you worry about the NFA, maybe a little bit longer hand guard, I do like the 16” barrel because it’s a nice in between length.
PSA are kinda dicks and wont ship to a lot of ban states (like mine) so the Regulator and FM-15 Ranch Rifle are about the only decent options we folk get.
0:21 "Don't let people on the internet tell you what's cool and what's not cool". That's the same self affirmation James has to recite in the mirror when he puts on his wife's shorts.
I like it, if Sig wants to make it more ranch rifleish they could add a wooden stock and some sort of wooden foregrip. This is definitely a great option for restricted states to include mine, CT. The price is going to be a major problem for Sig. So when are you going to do a MAC M4 clone burn down😂?
This gun kind of encapsulates sig's most recent designs. Works purely on systems previously tested and developed, with overlapping features (like double charging handles, ar15 stocks on bufferless systems, hammer fired bore axis on a striker system.. ). Some would call it design by comittee.
I used to have an AK. I liked it a lot. I've never really been interested in the ARs. I saw the Regulator for the first time about a week ago. I fell in love at first sight! I choked when I saw the price but dreams are free, at least until the government figures out how to tax them! By the way, who is Paul Cooper? Did you mean Gary Cooper?
Given the overall reliability issues I'm seeing come up in the forums with Sigs various MCX offerings, and their penchant for changing the design without so much as rev change to alert potential buyers, and the absurd price point, it's a hard pass. Just because they bribed military officials to get contracts doesn't mean they make good reliable stuff. I mean come on, does anyone really believe an M17 is better than an M9/A3 ?
Puzzling that there’s no model with an unthreaded barrel. I’m an NYC resident, will likely purchase one and have a gunsmith modify, if one isn’t released in the next few months.
The price point is a bit higher than I can afford. The platform itself is fantastic. Fight Lite has been making this version for years. They sell the serialized lower, and you can choose from different uppers or use compatible AR uppers. The price is climbing on them too.
Big fan of semi-pistol grips. There’s like two intermediate caliber, box mag fed, semi-automatic rifles. The Mini-14, and the SU-16. At least this is number three.
SIG does the FightLite SCR/Foxtrot Mike Ranch rifle for almost 2.5x the price. My preference is the side charging Foxtrot Mike but more options in this style is a good thing.
I might be losing my mind, but are you measuring those groups edge-to-edge w.r.t the holes? It sure looks like it on the video. If that's how you're doing it, then they're even better than you think - the standard is center-to-center (or edge-to-edge and take off the diameter of the bullet). That 1.2 inch group actually might be a
The problem I have is that it's a parts bin rifle, for bespoke rifle prices. I mean, sure, if you're in California, great, but for everyone else, for what reason would you buy this over literally anything else? I'd rather buy 5 $700 AR's than one of these for $3500. It's not even about affordability anymore, it's just trying to part idiots from their money.
The wrist area is such an awkward design thanks to the obviously excess length. It reminds me very much the Ruger PC Charger and the chassis version of PC Carbine that uses the same parts. When I look at it as a designer, I see that it is difficult to come up with a less awkward, lighter, shorter alternative. But it leaves a sense of great dissatisfaction all the same. N.B. Ruger went the opposite direction: from a conventional stock to the pistol grip. But it encountered the same design challenge.
0 seconds ago Just to be clear... A $3000 doesn't help people in ban states (I live in MA). It's too much money for a normal gun guy to get it which means it doesn't move the needle. All of Sig's MCX line models fall into this I believe.
i dont know , but i like the grip and stock like that . Maybe because i had success with that kind of stock and grips more than vertical ones. Also gives me m14 vibes so i like it . i would love to see how accurate is with the 7.62 ammo .

Oh look another super leet tactical mainstream firearm company copying off of Keltec. Nothing to see here.
That’s so true!!
Except this one doesn't jam more than Smuckers.
@@mmclaurin8035 well considering the Keltec SU-16 was probably designed in 2002 and costs like $400..I sure hope the regulator works better
You know your gun sucks when the mini 14 makes more sense than it
A less accurate, less reliable rifle makes more sense than an mcx??
My first thought when I saw this gun was of my Mini 14. I love that rifle, but most do not. So I’m happy to have another non-AR 223 semiauto. And I trust Sig to do it right.
@@JTheraosSorry Charlie unless you're using s*** aftermarket magazines the Ruger mini-14 is no way less reliable
MCX’s are garbo. People are having handguards wiggle off our of the box. Cope harder its literally an ar18 in a flashy skin suit
@@JTheraosfor 1/4 the price, kinda yeh
Yeah, I agree that Sig should make it more like an AK, they already started with the safety, so they may as well continue with the mag release and charging handle.
I'll give Sig credit for trying to get into the ban state market. They recently got a variant of the p365 on the California safe handgun roster and they license they p320 FCU to Franklin Armory to put in single shot frames
I own the OG gen 1 SCR and the 14 lb trigger and it has as much resistance as pulling a brick through colonoscopy. I swear it feels like a 30lb trigger
This gave me a good snort
The zoolander in the coal mine line had me dieing
The Netflix AR
lmao
Where can we get the James Reeves magazine ?
It's a ranch rifle, not a close-quarter combat gun. The position of the mag release is WAY down on the list of priorities in such a gun used for hunting/plinking. BUT.... the price of such a gun should be way high on the list of desirable features, which this, of course, fails at its current msrp of THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS.
I love it, and would totally get one, but that price tag....ouch. The Spear LT is less expensive.
It's almost legal in my state 😢😢 fuckin Washington. Can't wait to move.
Coming to Missouri? Could use a roommate whos about guns. Lol
I remember my Sgt Major used to brag about his crazy arsenal in Washington and made fun of California
But this video reinforced my fondness (fetish) of Ruger's Mini (.223/5.56, 300BO & 7.62x39).
i actually like this gun too. though they werent exactly first with this design. Fightlite came out with an AR lower that looks like this.
Well you could get the fightlite SCR lower and then put on a side charge handle AR upper or any other standard AR upper and fix the handling issues. Cool gun nice looks.
It sucks can’t take steel.
The second I heard the word “serenity”
🎶 YOU CANT TAKE THE SKY FROM ME 🎶
*comes deep from deep in my subconscious*
gotta respect their achievement in making the mini-14 more relevant in 2024
$3,000 for a beater ranch rifle, about sh*t my pants hearing that price for what you get.
What bothers me is, how often the springs on these Sigs turn into wet spaghetti.
Is it just me who doesnt found 1.5 moa that impressive ?
Specially when shooting 77 grains from 1/7 barrel.
Piston operated is only small part. Must have either bad barrel or otherwise loose tolerances.
Would be more acceptable from gun which cost 1/3 of price but this just doesnt
sound good at all.
I can't wait for Hop to do his response video!
Plan to pick one up after Sig finishes beta testing it on the market. 🤷🏼♂️
I love the no pistol grip stock look, very cool gun James :)
honestly, drop the price by a grand and a half and I'm there.
Why not use mini 14? Cheaper and same concept
I would like one with a lever action style charching handle.
Not bad for banned states that don't have many choices, but the price point is discouraging. Also some cites/states you can't have a threaded barrel, or any sort of break or flash hider.
Next level references in this one James.
I don't think that people hate the rifle. Sig is just insane with the MSRP on this rifle. How can the Spear LT be cheaper? It just seems that Sig is trying to recoup their costs on the Government contract by raping the civilian market. There are better options out there at a much affordable price.
Or recover costs of designing and testing a completely new lower…
You're thinking wrong, I hate this rifle.
@@calhitmen why?
@@Pb.Slinger not worth the money.
@@calhitmen yeah you’re not wrong. MSRP on this is crazy.
Foxtrot Mike has a "Ranch Gun" just like this... with a intermediate length gas piston system, side charging handle, and compatibility with Magpull shotgun stocks. It costs about $1000. Admittedly it lacks other MCX compatibility - but still.
Reminds me of an M14!
3k is absurd for a cope rifle
Sounds like poor coping
@@mattg9971the only ones that anime hermit weaboo knows is from call of duty.. not joking, his videos are even there
It's literally just an mcx with a different stock... you aren't losing basically anything you'd get on a normal mcx.
@@mattg9971 t. SIGGER shill
It’s cool, but I’d just buy a PSA Jackal
PSA are kinda dicks and wont ship to a lot of ban states (like mine) so the Regulator and FM-15 Ranch Rifle are about the only decent options we folk get.
Thank you for letting us know

I like it, if Sig wants to make it more ranch rifleish they could add a wooden stock and some sort of wooden foregrip. This is definitely a great option for restricted states to include mine, CT. The price is going to be a major problem for Sig. So when are you going to do a MAC M4 clone burn down😂?
Stop FUDDing the products.
This gun kind of encapsulates sig's most recent designs. Works purely on systems previously tested and developed, with overlapping features (like double charging handles, ar15 stocks on bufferless systems, hammer fired bore axis on a striker system.. ). Some would call it design by comittee.
So it’s the gun camel?
James, I like you dude but SIG just sucks

BCA can slap a side charger on an AR upper for dual charging, maybe take a look at something like that for this???
I used to have an AK. I liked it a lot. I've never really been interested in the ARs. I saw the Regulator for the first time about a week ago. I fell in love at first sight! I choked when I saw the price but dreams are free, at least until the government figures out how to tax them!
By the way, who is Paul Cooper? Did you mean Gary Cooper?
"I love this"
Is that initial reaction because it's just grossly overpriced?
Sig is a joke now.
This gun looks DOPE!!! I'm in the camp with you!
It's just a way worse version of the keltec RDB survival... Typical sig over priced over weight trash
People whine about it because they see it as some sort of marketing for anti-gunner states. Well... people are f'n stupid.
Big fan of semi-pistol grips. There’s like two intermediate caliber, box mag fed, semi-automatic rifles. The Mini-14, and the SU-16. At least this is number three.
CMMG B4 - comes in 5 calibers very similar but using 870 stocks with a much better ergonomics setup and tactical operation.
Bro how you have the nerve to talk about small companies not supporting there products when Sig is the epitome of that. Sig 556xi,516,556r etc.
SIG does the FightLite SCR/Foxtrot Mike Ranch rifle for almost 2.5x the price. My preference is the side charging Foxtrot Mike but more options in this style is a good thing.
If someone would make a similar type lower for the BRN-180.

Just to be clear...
There are at least two options available for half the price from decent companies. While I get some people's "why", still I must ask, why? WHY AT THE PRICE?!
Where is the "lol" button on UA-cam? It wouldn't be so bad if not for the price. $3k? Nope. Sig has lost they damn mind.
It’s the new Mini-14. It does everything an AR can do, at twice the price, but at twice the cool factor!
At last, someone made a premium Kal-Tec SU-16CA! I know I'm weirdo because I love it.
