    I bought one of the dieselgate cars(2011 vw jsw 6spd) for 1/3 of retail, with the full 54000 mile warranty, and took vw to the cleaners for all the warranty repairs. They replaced basically everything covered under the warranty except the engine block and the turbo, including the entire cylinder head. To anyone considering buying a dieselgate car, just get one with as much of the warranty as possible left on the car, drive the hell out of it for 50k, and let vw replace all those parts they're liable for. They'll give you a loaner.

    I have so many questions... First of all, why didn't you drive the car for 2.5 years if you kept paying monthly (+insurance)? Second, why do you have 2-3 cars if you get a new press car every week? And third, I know you were considering the Chrysler 300 for its air suspension, will it be the new car?

    So just to confirm. There's really nothing wrong with the car. Its not been a nightmare to own. Just had to go for a recall. A recall on all their diesals basically. Wow no courtesy cars? Shocking. Also if you own that many cars why do you need a courtesy car? Leave them for people who actually need them.

    You spent 22 mins. complaining. There is nothing wrong with your diesel. I had my diesel updated and it's fine. You just expect VW to give you more money. The real issue is with the smaller diesel (2.0) and that I can see a higher pay back. The 3.0 is a great engine and with the update it meets CARB.

You sound just like a crying liberal who expects everyone to give them something. Also, why in the hell would I cut you a check?

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  6 років тому +1

      Audi issued a stop sale. When that happens, Audi dealers will refuse a TDI trade-in. You are left selling your car at wholsale. If you sell your car before the settlement approval, you are only offered half of the settlement. When the settlement was approved, it was at the end of the year, December 20, 2017. At that point, the values have plunged to another year of depreciation. Now, you might not have the income to buy a new Audi, let alone purcgase rather than finance. This may be more complicated than you are willing to understand. Furthermore, I am not a libtard.

    • @jwj500
      @jwj500 6 років тому +2

      I understand. My point is there was nothing wrong with your car so instead of losing money, (and letting it sit for a long time) why didn't you just keep it. Go ahead and look how many diesels are for sale. It's hard to find one... Plus, trading in your vehicle, (any vehicle) typically one gets less than selling outright. A 2014 is selling in the low to mid 30's.
      I would have a different perspective if I had the 2.0 VW based on the extreme NOX variations and not trap oxidizer or Ad Blue/DEG injection system.
      I hope you purchased something that you enjoy and serves you well. Best wishes.

    Just an FYI, you can vagcom off the start stop or set it to remember the last setting. Not a big deal whatsoever. As a long time Audi I'm surprised that you don't have one. As a journalist, I'm assuming that you know the EU manufacturers have to meet a total emissions target and that's why the cars all come with the system now (despite diesel only consuming 0.5-1.5 litres per hour at idle).
    Not to have a debate, as I have enjoyed your videos in the past (and one of the reasons I bought my A6 TDI), but most of us have bought diesel due to the fuel economy and torque primarily. With the soaring fuel prices (currently regular in Vancouver BC is over $1.50 per liter, and premium over $1.75), diesel makes sense to anyone commuting over longer distances. With the Germans pulling out of diesel in North America after this fiasco, it's funny that GM, Ford, Mazda, etc now are bringing more diesels in. It's really unfortunate as I was looking forward to getting a 2018 Q5 3.0 TDI or the mythical SQ7 TDI if we ever were to receive it (since there was no chance for a bi-turbo A6 Avant here).

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  6 років тому

      For US customers, it just wasn't worth depreciation. In my case, it was $36k in losses in 2.5 years. No amount of fuel efficiency is going to make up for that. Granted, all cars depreciate and I managed to pit 26k miles on it by doing a few road trips. However, I was unable to trade this car in until the settlement was final (meaning an approved fix was ready) and the car was fixed. The problem is that most major car dealers won't sell cars that have open recalls or campaigns. I couldn't trade this car in if I wanted to without getting wholesale and losing out on the full settlement.

    • @baldy3577
      @baldy3577 6 років тому

      Diesel Drives I agree with the depreciation being high, especially on new vehicles. Heck, mine stickered around 86k and I was able to get it 6 months ago for 46k with only 19k kms on it.
      In Canada we haven't even had the case settled yet (scheduled for April) and the preliminary proposal on the table is not even close to what you guys are getting in the US, especially after factoring currency conversion and that our vehicles end up costing more here.

  • @MrNeo562
    @MrNeo562 6 років тому +1

    Just wondering why you parked it for two years? In Kentucky, they don’t care...reputable dealers are selling them whether they have been fixed or not.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  6 років тому +1

      As there was a stop sale in effect from November 2, 2015 through December 20, 2017, Audi dealers could not sell any, even a used as CPO. Therefore, Audi dealers would not take one on trade. This meant that owners would simply get wholesale auction prices during the court proceedings. During proceedings, owners would only get half the settlement if the vehicle was sold before December 20, 2017. There was a potential for a buyback only if a fix wasn't approved by December 20, 2017. EPA and CARB chose to wait until the last day to approve fixes, avoiding a buyback. If the car was totaled before December 20, 2017, there was a potential for exclusion from class settlement action for a buyback or full settlement. Therefore, it was my decision to buy a CPO Audi A3 for commuting. Sure enough, the A3 got hit.

      Hi Bryan. I had my Q5 TDI in for oil change here in Colorado and my service guy said ..”hey Bill, why not let us do your diesel fix this afternoon...we’ve got time”. They gave me a new Q3 as a loaner as well. So my experience was fairly painless. Car seems a little weird ar slow speeds...gas mileage takes a hit I think...but overall it seems OK. I immediately disabled my stupid start stop button...but on this 2015 it stays off . I can reach my service Dept here in Colorado no problem...so far. Good luck. I still like my car and plan on keeping it awhile. 30,000 miles.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  6 років тому

      It's VW's lies, their denial, their admission of guilt, their lack of respect for owners, and overall fact that government made out better than owners that really sucks. I'm just glad it's over. But it never needed to get this far had they simply provided restitution immediately, pulled the cars off the road by offering trade in opportunities, and resold fixed vehicles today. People would have been lining up for all the fixed vehicles. Instead, the owners ended up holding the bag for VW and the court for years. Pathetic justice.

    I’m sorry man but that was just a dumb purchase. I know the chick from the epa told you the 3.0s were fine when they were still being investigated but still.. if you had the option to stop the sale or to return the vehicle within a certain amount of time, I don’t know why you didn’t. Any tdis up for sale during that time period should of been avoided like the plague by consumers. I love Audis too And have owned a lot of the during my life time but it boggles my mind that anyone would buy a tdi during that time period. You really only have yourself to blame for that headache.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  5 років тому

      You don't understand. I ordered the vehicle. EPA released it from the port. Then they lied about it. They should have said it was being investigated. But they didn't. Instead, EPA released it from port while they were investigating. Why did EPA release it from port? The EPA has help up certification on other diesels. Why not this one? $73k. That's why. EPA and Audi shouldn't have sold the car knowing what they knew. And I'm bound by the settlement. Fuck Audi.

      The Chevy Cruze is decent for the price and it was a European car retooled for the US. It has auto stop/start without hybrid power but it doesn't have a button to disable. The engine is small already and it's hardly perceptible but that tech is really only useful in Europe as they have tons of roundabouts. The US can't take advantage of it at small intersections in most neighborhoods. Thanks for the great replies!
