It's not that most engines do not have iaaues. It is just how unnecessarily complex and expensive issues are on this. I got my car for 3750EUR. Injectors cost 1500EUR. Timing chains 2000EUR. Right engine mount 350EUR.The small gasket in the v that leaks oil over your accessory belt - 6.5EUR+1 day labour to get to it. Overall 200EUR. We've just done basic maintanance on the engine and looking at a bill of 4050EUR (more than we paid for the car). Ask me how I know these things...

People are saying "ohh it's ticking bomb, ohh it got a lot of problems" when in reality its pretty realiable engine, like a lot of diesel engines turbo, injectors, egr, dpf, is common issues and its not a big of a deal, turbo and injectors can be restored, you dont need new oem ones, dpf and egr in my opinion should be deleted, then you bypass that mysterious coolant leakes cuz of blanked of egr, and you dont suffer from cloged dpf and turbo problems, you pass all mot inspections co2 tests and evrything without them, swirl flaps are not a problem but you can delete them to. The biggest thing is the timing chain in my country it does cost 1200€ with the labour and parts. So i have this engine (audi a6 c6 3.0tdi v6 quattro automatic) and i love this car, before i had m57 bmw, same thing that can occur turbo injectors ect... Years ago replaced turbo, and injectors, it now needs injectors again, thought it was getting a bit old and bought a BMW. Chalk and cheese, now going to sell the BMW and keep the Audi.

I have a november 2007 A5 coupe with this engine, have it a year now, absolutely love it. It has 123,000 miles on it, clean car, still feels tight. Pulls well for 240 hp but thinking about having it mapped, I hear a stage 1 tune can unlock about 60 more hp and more torque. 😁
I had the sticky intake manifold issue on my CAPA engine. It's a pretty cheap fix but you need to get it sorted as soon as you can as if an error is detected they apparently default to wide open which can result in the air/fuel mix getting messed up. Otherwise I think it's a great engine.
I have the Crca 245bhp version of this engine in my 2011 92a 958 Cayenne, it has covered 179,000 miles, it pulls my 1,750kg twi axle Caravan like it isnt even there. In my 5 years of ownership, I have, replaced all 6 injectors and seals (found an amazing deal on the injectors, so i only done it as preventative maintenance. I have gutted the dpf, removed the egr and egr cooler, remapped the engine to delete these also (or you get an eml error) I'm now running over 300bhp. Im about to replace the turbo feed seals (no oil lines as its fed straight from the block mounting) and upgrade the turbo to a new hybrid turbo (the technology on these original turbos is 13 years old now atleast) and new turbos can spool far quicker and more effectively. I want to push close to 400bhp and 1,000nm of torque as safely as I can Map it. I will mostlikely need to make a custom exhaust as these are quite small in diameter at the downpipe back to what I'd like to be on it. These engines are also mated to the Aisin 8 speed auto box which is one of these best auto boxes there is, not the 100,000 mile and explode ZF junk you get in most vehicles of this era.
Great video and very informative. Had an 07' A5 with the CAPA 3.0TDI engine. Great engine and a great car, with the odd problems as you mentioned here (DPF, EGR & swirl flaps).
On my 07 Allroad ASB engine, 420k kms, replaced a complete water hose and the reservoir since was cracked, an injector washer (started hissing) and a throttle body actuator recently. The engine itself is very capable and bulletproof but you need to keep an eye on it in time. Other thing: make a flush on water circuit system since is normal to slowly gain an acid PH on the circuit and that will corrode everything it touches.
Had an ASB, BMK and now running CGQB. No extra problems with ASB between 133-215tkm. BMK was sold at 409tkm, had to replace the injectors and it was suffering minor oil leaks "here and there" during the years. Was still running fine, though. Now I'm running CGQB in A6 C7, it suffered coolant leak from oil cooler at around 200tkm, and the injector gaskets have been replaced.
Great, informative and also entertaining video, as usual! I think I won the lottery with my 2008 A4 3.0 TDI, it has the newer generation CAPA engine with enough power output, but it was also fitted from factory with the more reliable Bosch CP1H3 pump! :) (I only found this out while I was looking for the CP4 pump, for preventive maintenance :D) The car also has a manual transmission, I really love this car, want to keep it as long as possible.
I have ran this engine from 200k to 320k with only one issue are those copper washers on the injectors, awesome engine!!! I have a 2010 Touareg with CATA motor. When under heavier acceleration power fluctuations can be felt. Sort of like a cylinder misfire on a gasoline engine. I can't figure out what could be the cause. Engine seems to run good. Great video!
Everything true, i have a 3.0 in a touareg from 150k to 300k: swirl flap repair and.clean every 50k, injectors leak, big oil leak in valley of v6 causing changed of all seals and big work to unmount all accessories of this dead valley , turbo changed, o.rings of cooler changed, you can add the egr cooler flap leak of smoke that add bas smell in cabine too;)
Can you tell me anything about the HXG automatic gearbox on thus engine? Can’t even find if it’s a multitronic or tiptronic gearbox. Would like to learn some more about it. Thanks in advance!
HXG should be a 6 speed aut. gearbox with a torque converter (not multitronic) which can be found in the 1st gen q7 or touareg with regular oil changes its reliable and can withstand a lot
My car with 310.000km and replaced HPFP, water pump, thermostat, starter, trunk sock strut..... I have MAF sensor from Hitachi like new 99% for this engine for sale
My 2011 touareg injectors were putting pressure into the leak off pipes too, also the large plastic coolant item that bolts to the front cover and connects to the egr is prone to failure on high km models too, also you should mention dirty intake systems causing issues, RUN A CATCH CAN ALWAYS! injectors fail usually before 200 on 2nd gen tdi engines with piezo injectors, also coolant shut off valve is prone to failure on 2nd gen engines
Never install a catch can, unless you live in a country with no winters. Otherwise, the water in teh catch can will freeze, the PCV system will be blocked, and pressure will build up inside the engine causing damage to the seals or worse.
Not sure about the EGR one but swirl flap deletes are common on BMK and even other engines as you only delete a part of possible failure with no repercussions so it should be safe to do with basically no downside
I have audi a7 2011g 3.0tdi 205ks. When starting in the morning, the car is shaking for 10 seconds, like it wants to turn off. After it calms down, no problem till next morning. OM648 and even the OM642 are much more reliable than most of the TDI's in Audi/VW cars, especially the crappy 2nd gen 3.0 TDIs. For example, both the 648 and 642 use a duplex timing chain, whereas the TDI's use single chains, thus having much weaker resistance to streching and I'm not even talking about the more complex chain system of the TDIs. Furthermore, to change the chains, with both the OM648 and 642, you don't have to take out the engine + gearbox from the car. The 3.0 TDIs, both the 1st and 2nd gen, require the engine and gearbox to be taken out to service the chains (if I remember correctly, you can only change the top right tensioner in the TDIs, which is also a very common problem with the TDIs). The Mercedes is much more DIY friendly (sounds ironic, as Merc doesn't have this reputation after their legendary W124 era of unbreakable and easy to fix cars). The only major problem of the Merc engines (mostly the 642, not the 648) is the oil cooler gasket, which starts to leak at some point of the engine's life. It's a very cheap part but it requires quite a few hours of labour, but if you do it yourself - it's dirt cheap, the gasket is something like 15-20 euros from the Mercedes dealership. The injectors are the only place where these engines have similiar reliability, the Mercedes OM648 suffers from the injector o-ring problem (called the black death in the Merc community) but it's very easily and cheaply fixed, if it's not left abandoned for too long and a layer of black tar has not eaten up the injectors. Personally, I feel a lot of regret going from the OM642 to a 2nd gen 3.0 TDI. The merc engine, at 319k KM mileage hadn't had any major problems, apart from the alternator belt and all the pulleys needing to be replaced (a job costing around 300 euros, lasts a long time) and just the timely oil/filter changes. On other hand, my recently bought A5 with the 2d gen TDI, at 209k KM, is already having chain rattles at warm starts, which is very confusing, as I have always regarded the TDIs as reliable and well built engines. Maybe that was just a legacy of the mythical 1.9TDI, who knows...

I had a 2013 A4 3.0 tdi, barely a month old, was forced to refurbish the turbo, service injectors, gearbox, replace fuel rail ...... Only for the car to leave stranded on the highway....... My advice, don't look at anything with this engine in the 2nd hand market, for the sake of your mental health 😂
I have a a6 2006 2.7 TDI and like once a week it will have a hard time starting in the morning (first start of the day) cranks for way to long like 8 times, can't figure out why, replaced glow plugs, some sort of fuel solenoid that is on top of the fuel filter couse the older one you could see it was a bit greasy look like it was leaking a bit of fuel from there, replaced some cracked pipe that was going straight to EGR, managed to reduce the times this long crancking happens but can't fix it completele and i ran out of ideas, after the first start the rest are just normal cranks like its a petrol car :D. If anyone haves something similar and managed to fix it i would love to know how.

Very very good review with lots of valuable info, thanks!
310 thousand gen 1 treg CASA here and still going strong

Thanks for the really useful video!
absolutely brilliant videos mate.
Which fuel additived would you recommend to keep the engine good. About to buy a second hand A8 with 100k miles on it. Would like to keep it good for few years. Thanks for great video and if you can pass any wisdom re. additives.

Thanks for your great video, a question please 1:48 on my audi was full of oil and carbon when i opened it can you tell me why is it like that please?
Can someone help with locating crank sensor on 3.0TDI A6 C6
On the first 2 generations of this motor, he keeps saying ‘try not to abuse these engines’ … do they blow up? I want to stage 2 tune one and daily it?
Strangely this video pops up as one of my neighbours bought a 3.0l v6 amarok late last year to go caravanning,he's not happy as broken down just north of Sydney with catastrophic engine failure at 19000k
Nice video man...really appreciate it 🙏
I have a 1st Generation with a noise when i rev in neutral and in gear which is getting noisier? Its not the gearbox? How can i check what it could be?
My 2008 A6 ASB engine blow head gasket or maybe crank head 250k km. Perfect engine until now.

I’m looking for an engine to marinize and put it into boat. Is there any engine that you would recommend for me, that has similar specs like this audi 3.0 v6?
Thanks
How to find the egr cooler o-rings? Mine are leaking coolant. Is there a part no. For these?
Which year do you recommend me to buy ?
Audi Q7 V6 V8 ?
Deleting the dpf and the adblue system makes these 10 times more reliable
I have a 2010 Touareg with CATA motor. When under heavier acceleration power fluctuations can be felt. Sort of like a cylinder misfire on a gasoline engine. I can't figure out what could be the cause. Engine seems to run good. Great video!
maybe your egr or throttle body sticking
or worse fuelpump
Que tipo de aditivo de diesel recomienda para este motor?
Could we have the same but with 3.0 v6 FSI engines please
GREAT VIDEO! Does this cover the 2014 Audi A7 TDI V6 Turbo engine?
no, in that car there is a 2nd gen of that engine, the video about it is here: ua-cam.com/video/272PBPSS2no/v-deo.html
HXG should be a 6 speed aut. gearbox with a torque converter (not multitronic) which can be found in the 1st gen q7 or touareg
with regular oil changes its reliable and can withstand a lot
@@differentcarreview-dcrthanks a lot
True for coolant shut off valve, i had this problem
Never install a catch can, unless you live in a country with no winters. Otherwise, the water in teh catch can will freeze, the PCV system will be blocked, and pressure will build up inside the engine causing damage to the seals or worse.

What do you think about EGR and Swirl flap delete / tuning ? I have BMK engine.
Injectors dpf tested and in good condition, new fuel filter, no errors on diagnostic tool. Someone know what could be the issue?
Do Compression test
Very good!
All those price u included the engine has to go out of the car unfortunately so the price are higher then u mention
Can you do a video on Mercedes engines too? It would be interesting to see how they compare vs VAG group products

There is mostly a reason why the sell a car and mostly that is that there is coming expenses.
@andrebosgraaf2086 bruv! Worst experience I've had to endure.... On the other hand the performance of this thing, my GOD it was quick

Have you tried a new/different air flow meter?
@@davidbillyard6629what does an airflow sensor has to do with starting ?
@@nderimplays2099 A failing air flow meter can affect engine startup as it instructs the ecu regarding fuelling. It doesn’t always create a fault code / dashboard light error so it’s best to use a decent scanner that has live data or Vagcom. I’ve experienced these problems.
