      and ? go read some reviews on watchuseek .. old movements .. no water resistancy... you can overwind them etc etc etc ... they lose 35% percent before you even buy them lol .. the hands are not gold but rhodium plated (which is absurd for this price range) many watches have terrible reading etc etc the list of problems go on .. rolex and glashutte are way above. jlc has zero decoration .. unless you go duo but those are gold and cost +25 k euro. even grand seiko has better finishing of the movement (not to mention the case ) so overall .. almost all good brands like, lange, glashutte, grand seiko, rolex, blancpain, and breguet. not to mention all richmonds watches are known to have terrible quality control as well as durability problems (with an expection a Lange) even vacheron has big problems ... people that dont know much about watch making might assume jlc is a good watch. but it really is not. and the watchmakers watchmaker is just a phrase that maybe made sense back in the days but these days its not true at all. lol not even to to mention their watches dont even have magnetic resistance (and its 2021 out there lol terrible !!!!)

    Great video! Just one thing: 30m of water resistance does NOT mean you can go diving this deep with it, not even technically. It only describes the static pressure resistance, but little movements under water already increase the pressure significantly. A 30m watch is merely resistant to splash water and you shouldn't even go under the shower with it. Still a lovely watch which I would love to own one day. Keep up the good stuff!

    @esteban8840 3 роки тому +9

    To me, JLC is the best watchmaker in the world for the simple reason that 2 of the 3 brands of the holy Trinity, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet has for sure multiple times in the history received JLC movements in their watches, there’s a reason why they called them the watchmaker’s watchmaker

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8 3 роки тому +2

      They are the only watchmaker who have supplied movements to all three of the holy trinity. The sole reason they aren't one of them is because they weren't established as a maker of watches as early as the others but their engineering and movements were unsurpassed.

    Excellent video and coverage of the brand and its history. Worth it for a watch is always a difficult question as it is an emotional purchase and not really an investment in the same way that classic clothing is. For watch enthusiasts, a JLC Reverso will likely be worth it but for more casual watch wearers, an affordable alternative like a Seiko or even a quartz Cartier may make more sense. As a JLC Reverso 976 owner myself, I absolutely love the timepiece so it's worth it to me.

    I bought a new classic Reverso in 1997 and in the span of 24 years I've only had to replace the ostrich band. The movement is still working fine even though I've never brought it in for servicing. For investment purposes, stick with Rolex and PP as Raphael suggests. I recently sold my 13 year old PP 5711/1A for almost quadruple what I had paid.

    I got my Grande Taille Reverso in 1999, and is still running today. I do believe the Reversos from the 1990s were not water resistant. Only on the later iterations did JLC start putting a rubber gasket around the movement to help improve water resistance.

    I own a Reverso, and I WEAR it wherever I can, despite the inevitable accumulation of minor scratches. (However, motorcycles and mechanical movements don't mix well.) The Reverso is totally distinctive, and I greatly appreciate the understated, retro elegance. I'm surprised you didn't mention the different styles of guilloché watch faces. There are several, but once I saw the wavy design you show at 0:58, nothing else would do! It's what I got, and it's provided a very satisfying ownership experience.

      @@rywk4225 Not at all, Rahul, happy to help! I use a 36mm quartz watch with a steel band from Mondaine's "Simply Elegant" collection. It isn't on their website right now, but can be found on Amazon for €339. What I like is that it's very thin, almost like it's painted on your wrist, and doesn't interfere with the tight cuffs on motorcycle jackets; and the band, of stainless steel mesh, is as comfortable as leather but isn't affected by sweat. The only functions are time and a sweep second hand; but if you insist on ANYTHING more (date!), your watch will be twice as thick. It also comes in 41mm, which I ordered first; it looked HUGE on my wrist, and I sent it back. The train-station-clock design is a bit of a gag, and you either think it's way cool or you hate it: but it most definitely is LEGIBLE, at least until the sun goes down. But whatever watch you wear, Rahul, ride carefully, have fun, be safe!

    even Ihsahn, a well-known as singer and guitarrist from the Black Metal Band "Emperor" have a Reverso (with personal signature and a custom made strap form JLC), so not only for classic style, the reverso fits, but also for the most antyclassic standpoint of black metal xD. But, it make sense, to protect the watch on the stage, so he use it for the intended purpose ;). from a horological standpoint, there is almost no other watch, that is so iconic like the Reverso. it was the first "sports watch" and layed the foundation for watches like the Nautilus or the Royal Oak.

    I can support the statement that JLC will always support their movements I have a 1956 LeCoultre and they made a part for it and still only charged me what that part should have cost not what it cost them to make it. Only downside is that they do not openly support non authorized watch repair shops which means that any repairs can become expensive and time consuming (one might expect that given the value of the watch but Omega does not do this anyone can order their parts meaning you can have lower priced repairs).

    All of these high end Swiss watches are overpriced so I would not buy one...However, if I were to buy one, the Reverso would be at the top of my list. It has an understated timeless Art Deco elegance. With 90 years of history and still going strong, so It will be around long after the macho mega watches have fallen out of favor. It is the watch that is nicely different, which flies a bit under the radar, and is really appreciated by watch aficionados. Everyone has a Rolex and it screams social climbing as the default status symbol, but the Reverso has a powerful unstated elegance. The slimmer and smaller size makes it more comfortable to wear. Finally, It is well made is actually fairly reasonably priced for its category. It is for the person who thinks differently.

    Iconic design, dressy, elegant and classy.
    Instantly recognizable by those who know watches, invisible to those who don't.
    The small size and leather band make this a true dress watch, as nobody in his right mind is playing polo, or doing anything especially active with this watch. But for this reason, this is not going to be anyone's 1 watch they way, say, a Rolex Datejust, or Omega Aqua Terra would be.
    So, I would say go for it if you want or need a dress watch and you are a watch collector.
    Stay away if you wear mostly casual attire and especially, if you want to impress people around you, since for all intents and purposes, 99.9% of the people who see this watch on the wrist won't notice it.

    Dunhill from London England owns or did own Cartier from France. Cartier made a number of watches for Dunhill, one of them is a copy of the Cartier Tank, which is about the same as the reverso in size. One of these even has a Jaeger-Lecoutre movement. The Dunhill facet is about 1/2 the cost of a Cartier, exact same model and movement, and about 1/3 the cost of a Jaeger-Lecoutre. The best watches Dunhill sold were made by Cartier from the 1990's to 2015 or so era. They were both bought out by Reichmont. (not sure of the spelling). - if money is important, look for a Dunhill.

    I got a lot and still get very much from owning and wearing the timepiece. Both dials are very simple, elegant and I still consider it quite an accomplishment, to incorporate 2 dials in one timepiece. My Duoface is more present on the wrist and is thicker than It seems from looking on the website. I have a black leather strap and the leather is very rich and has a high quality. In my opinion, the timepiece offers a lot for the money spent.

    The Reverso is a perfect 2nd or 3rd watch. Once you own that Rolex Submariner, GMT or Omega Speedmaster, Seamaster. The next watch should be a JLC Reverso. It can also be great for a two watch collection... One everyday watch, and the Reverso could be a dress watch.

      Personally the 36mm 1st explorer is the only one i really like. Classic and understated vs the sub. Every time I see someone wearing a sub and I look at them i just think desk diver. Not that that's a bad thing

    • @Milofchg
      @Milofchg 2 роки тому

      @@junioradult6219 I agree... I sold my Sub ceramic and got "the call" for a Explorer 36mm October 2021. Yes I agree on the understated vibe of the Explorer. 36mm is a sweet spot doesn't matter if you have the new Explorer, a 1016, or a 114270/14270. It's the best all around Rolex you can buy. The smaller classic size makes this perfect for me. Smaller size watches are back. Even though I have a 7 inch wrist and can wear just about any size watch. I prefer smaller 36mm-40mm width/42mm-48mm lug to lug size watches. I will say the pre-ceramic subs are not as flashy and don't stand out like these new Subs.

    Jlc reverso is one of the few mechanical watches that are worth owning. It is a classic design from an incredible maker. Jlc is regarded as the watchmakers watch.
    I don’t own any Jlc. But if I did. A reverso would be one of them. Even it is a small watch and would look like a microwatch on my wrist.
