MY NEW CAR! 2024 Mazda CX-5 GS

- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- Nearly four months of research and test-driving has come to an end, and I have purchased my new car, and I could not be more thrilled. This long-form review consists mostly of me driving the car while talking about it, with some B-roll and pictures throughout.
I am not ignorant to how lucky I am to have been able to afford this car, and that is in part thanks to support from you guys on Patreon and through your UA-cam viewership. Thank you.
I will follow this video with periodic ownership updates whenever I see fit.

Correction: This generation of CX-5 came out in 2017, with minor updates in 2022.
So it's as old as the Qashqai! But it's aged way better :)
For mfr's means worked out a lot of issues. That's a good thing.
That salesperson was so petty to throw a fit about you test driving other cars after putting down a deposit. I could maybe understand it if it was some esoteric model, but this is literally the best-selling trim level of Mazda's best-selling vehicle. But some dealers get very defensive against any competition. For example years ago when I test-drove a Mazda3 the salesman asked me which other cars I was considering, and when I mentioned several, he immediately started trash-talking all of them, including the Ford Focus, which was based on the same platform and had the same engine as the Mazda3!
When I heard that part, I wondered if the sales rep. was originally hoping that Florence would be a "stupidhead" who could be upsold just about anything (thereby getting them a bigger commission). Trying out other cars clearly demonstrates Florence's sensibility and shows she wasn't about to be influenced into becoming a careless purchaser! I have never been in such a situation myself (I don't do much driving, so I don't own a car), but I know that I certainly wouldn't buy the first new car I tested (at least until after I had tried a few other models and seen what was all on offer).
One optional item that you can add yourself ( I did ) are blue tinted water repellent outside rear view mirrors to replace the standard ones. I’m in the PNW and with the rain/snow we get it really helps to keep the mirrors clear.
The blue tint helps cut the glare from cars following behind as the Mazda doesn’t have auto dimming outside mirrors. My CX5 is a 2019 diesel, only offered for that one year.
I've been pretty impressed by Mazda's current offerings. The CX-5 does seem to be a pretty nice car, even one that I own happily own myself. The big thing I like that Mazda does is the way the infotainment centre. I'm not a fan of touchscreens in cars so to have real HVAC controls and the knob based interface, is pretty nice. Hopefully it'll last you a long time, I'm sure it will. Merry Christmas!
Congratulations! I'm thinking of getting one tomorrow.
Congratulations! and Thank you for sharing your insights on this video! Well done!
Congrats on the new car. One really can't go wrong with Mazda.
In regards to the kickdown "button" at the end of the accelerator travel, I have driven my brother's Ford Focus and a Volvo XC90, both 2005 models, and they both have that feature, so I think it's something that most relatively modern automatics have.
The interior of that car looks really nice, not only in terms of build quality, but also in that it seems to be the perfect mix of modern features and old-school functionality, with actual buttons for all main functions, rather than relying on a touchscreen for everything, or even worse, those stupid capacitive "buttons" that VW seems to like.
I've been considering one of these and this about has me sold. Coming from 3 previous Subaru Outbacks, which I always considered the leader of this class of vehicle, they've made interior mistakes and I've been looking elsewhere. The Outback had always won that 'sensible luxury in versatile body' category for me but Mazda is making me consider otherwise. This is a *nice* vehicle.
No start-stop and cylinder deactivation is an advantage ;). I understand that it has a traditional auto gearbox, which is great too.
It seems to have all the right stuff that people want thank you Mazda finely a car company that listens to what people want😊😊😊😊
Metric unit ≈ U.S. unit
0:33 10 km ≈ 6 mi.
0:36 234 km ≈ 145 mi.
19:25 500 km ≈ 311 mi.
So long flocus, hope this car serves you well!
so the navigation is useful if your traveling in areas where theres no cell phone service. it's just more convenient in case you didnt download google maps offline mode before hand. All new cars have rust protection already built in. The stuff they try to sell you is a scam. Most modern cars are painted with a primer and sealer before final painting, reducing contact between the metal body and the oxygen in the air. Modern paints contain chemical additives (sometimes referred to as rust preventives) that create an invisible shield against moisture.
100% on the navigation system there but even then one may be better off to just purchase one of those dashboard GPS units. I wondered if the SD card slot secretly doubled as allowing the user to play MP3s (this came to mind as Flo said was wanting to attempt to do so with a USB stick).
Congratulations! Nice SUV! And Merry Christmas Flo.
Well, Great Job on your new vehicle. Cant wait until videos about this is uploaded Happy Christmas and Happy New Years.
Congratulations on your new car. I too bought a new car this year and I too align with your thoughts on being able to own a brand new car during these economic times.
A few points to note.
1) Vehicle thefts seem to be a growing issue across Canada that seems to be mainly affecting Toyota, Lexus and Honda. One of the big reasons mainly chose to decide between Mazda and Subaru as I live in a risk prone area and compared to the other Japanese manufacturers these two were less prone to the issue.
2) It is a good idea to skip the rust-proofing package as you want petroleum/oil based solution as it is "self-healing". Wax based coatings don't heal and if water were to get trapped between the metal and the wax, the metal would corrode. It will hurt to have holes drilled into your brand new vehicle though. I personally opted for my dealership's rust package as it was oil based but I will Krown the vehicle in a few years. (I don't plan on driving the wheels off, so I can wait a few winters before I let holes be drilled into my car).
3) I was originally looking to get a 2023 Mazda CX5 GS in white. I think the 2024 is a better deal as the rear vents and digital speedo in the center were added for that year. The 2023 required the "comfort" package to get the vents and if you wanted the digital speedo you needed to go to the Kuro trim. I did end up going for a 2024 Crosstrek because it had way better insurance rates for me (as I am a relatively newer driver) and the car overall was the more economical choice.
4) I think you had a sound financing strategy by going for the 5/6 year plan. Once you crunch the numbers it makes no sense to do 84 months because interest will be way too much. I wouldn't personally put down half unless it was a small portion of my savings. Even if the payments are lower, I would just prefer to have the money just in case. But that's just me.
5) I would recommend getting winter tires if you need them, AWD is helpful but you need to be able to stop the car properly and winters help with that. You should also consider getting a dash camera as it is always added protection incase there was ever a hit and run, if you are parked at a store or something.
I have a dash cam; just haven't removed it from the Flocus yet :)
I bought mine, same color and everything on Dec. 9. I have a whopping 450 miles on it as of today.
Mazdas in Toronto area try to offer all the add-ons as well. However I was able to reject them all for my 2023 CX5 Signature. This could be due to the competition they have here.
Congrats, girl! Merry Christmas! 🎄
Merry Christmas! ❤️
what a great video, thank You so much for this; I'm still waiting for my new CX 5 ;)
Great vehicle. Dealerships can be awful sometimes, predatory tactics and overpriced addons that aren't manufacturer related
Very cool your new car. the multimidia control is like the bmw I think.
Congrats! Good choice in a car. Auto headlights perfect!
Awesome video)
Wow this is super beautiful. Congratulations for sure 🎉🎊
This was a really good review. I plan on purchasing one next month. It is really interesting how the trim levels and names are different in Canada vs the US. The Canadian GX & CS trim is basically concatenated in the US select trim, wonder why the trims are more divided out between the two countries. Also, does is Mazda 50% owned by Toyota, thought it was like 5%?
I just did some googling, and it looks like you're right. I got my figure from an unfortunately incorrect UA-cam video. Mazda and Toyota do share and collaborate on a lot of development and manufacturing, though.
Cool, and in time for Xmas. Congrats.
hey there congratulations! what does GS mean?
Historically GM used it to mean Gran Sport, but I don't know that Mazda means for it to have any meaning.
Congratulations! Beautiful Simple Vehicle you chose there...🫴💯🎯👍
I'm getting this at fredericton mazda today. I will mention they added extras and gave me no choice whether i wanted to take them or not. it's criminal really but our hands are tied as they all do it.
Thanks for the report on the Fredericton dealership. Congrats on the car!
@@themaritimegirl Subscribed from Australia regarding your SCSI Apple Macintosh drives video. As someone who had the very first Macintosh bought for my birthday in 1984, I have been an Apple/Mac FAN for a long time. I also purchased a Mazda CX-30 range topper (In Australia they are called Astina's) and it's quirky but so close to Lexus build and component quality it's amazing. We looked at the CX-5 but my wife found it far too large to drive with confidence. Cheers.
Love my CX5 also. The dealer owes you an apology!
Hopefully North America get the 100% Made in Japan Mazda's? The sticker is on the inside of the drivers door jam. If not and you get the Made in Mexico or elsewhere versions I"d be very wary of their ability to carry you trouble free beyond 100,000 miles. All the best!
As mentioned, the CX-5 is made in Japan.
@@themaritimegirl Excellent!
I got the gt trim. Love it.
yay!!
Now for the real question: will it drift?
Congrats!
Flocus will be missed.
Hi… I also live in Ontario Canada.I really like your Mazda CX5.. I want to know your car which trim do you have ? does it have the Bose Audio System. Also which feature does it have?
Please let me know. Thankyou very much. 🙏 And Enjoy your car…🚘
It's in the title of the video dude 🙃
No Bose on this trim.
Ok thanks.
Hi… how much did you paid for your car at the OTD price? And did you get the $750 incentive ?
Which part of NB is that? (You don't have to answer for privacy sake, but nice scenery)
I drove from Saint Andrews to St. George and back, taking Route 127 and Route 1.
So nice to see some lovely island homes during your drive. I’m surprised you don’t have an IP phone on the passenger seat lol 😂 maybe connected to C*Net or Motorola bag phone ☎️ lol 😂
Does "Island homes" mean something different? Because I didn't drive on or near any islands lol
@@themaritimegirl Maybe they think you're from PEI?
That would be fun to see a bag phone plugged in this new car's 12-volt power outlet.
How come your auto climate is displaying fahrenheit instead of celsius?
Because I set it to do so.
Have you thought of a nickname for it? If it had been a CX-4 you could have called it the CX-Flo.
I'm definitely curious as to if/when a name will come about. It will have to happen organically and accidentally, like it did for the Flocus :)
CXfine 😉
@@themaritimegirl Maybe it's the "Florzda"? It's quite interesting how we decide to name things. When I decided, for instance, that it felt right for me to have a new kitten, her name just came to me, and I had a "right" feeling about it. It'll be fun if and when you come up with a new name for the car to hear it announced.
What about the iStop, Start/Stop feature? I HATE it in my Chevy Equinox. How's it feel there?
Like I said, mine doesn't have it.
Thank goodness I wouldn't buy any car with that crap on it.
The treatment you got at the dealership - you're now qualified to buy a house 😁.
15.6 L per 100 km is crazy
The figure on the infotainment screen is for the current drive. I had only been driving for three minutes when you made that comment. You can see at the end of the drive I achieved 7.8 overall.
What was your OTD for the vehicle!?
A hair over $40,000 CAD
@themaritimegirl omg wow that's a good price from what I've been seeing in BC.
Sorry one other question. In a little over 30mins you mentioned you have no sun roof? I thought the comfort package came with the sunroof?
Just found your channel so sorry I missed that
@@Nites2k I don't have the comfort package. Just the standard GS trim.
@themaritimegirl ohhhhhh I misheard lol. Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it. I'm happy for you with your new car. I feel nothing right now, but I feel like I will have that excitement you have after getting the vehicle and driving it
Idk, Doesn't fit your vibe.
lol, ok
wtf, it obviously does if you watch the video
I think people have this strange expectation of people. They assume how others will like/gravitate towards things and how they'll react. However, I have found that sometimes I've even surprised myself on some things. Flo clearly did a lot of research about what was on the new car market ( you can check out her other videos discussing it) and definitely chose something she vibes with.
How did you turn on that live fuel efficiency screen all the time ?
The system just stays at whatever screen you go to.
@@themaritimegirl how do I go to that screen ? I’m a new cx5 owner as well :)
@@CinephileBanda It's under Information, top of the main menu.
Thank you so much@@themaritimegirl :)
Loved your in depth discussion and experience on the car.
Oh and btw the dealership I bought my CX-5 GS from offered me wheel locks for an extra charge(dont remember the charge) but I declined and they respectfully removed the charge. In conclusion, I only paid for the car, clean and simple with standard licensing fee added that's it :)
Feels so good to not pay anything I dont want from a dealership when I can get the same for a much less price from third parties. Eg. all weather mats costed me only CAD 100 from ebay :)
is there HUD on this model?
There is on the higher trim levels.
