I plan to have them at the same angle as the forks, like the stock (2003 883C) risers, because I want to have them farther back, for longer rides. The stock seat looks great. Nice job. I just bought an estate lot of two sportsters. A 92 with fat Bob tank and mike wells rebuilt motor with upgrades. And a black 97 sportster sport. Had to take them both. I knew the sportster s was a good pick up. But I’ll sell the one and keep the s model and upgrade like yours. Again- well done.
FYI: only have one key on ur key ring, as the ignitions are know to go due to vibration. I have changed mine twice. The first time it cut out was on I35 in DFW at 85 mph in traffic. I grabbed clutch and wiggled key and big boom from gas build up.

Nice find! I just picked up a yellow 2001 XLS in similar condition, the owner had a lot of the same options installed too, all set up for touring. Great bike.
Very very nice bike. My bike is 2001 XL1200S sportster. This project is very unique and wonderful. Classic style but modern technology in it ! My one is uproading on my channel. I want to try a unique project like you.
I have an orange 2000 XL1200S. 10,400 miles, looks a lot like that one but set up more like a cafe racer. Screamin' Eagle stage something ... Carb issue is, no rebuild kit found for 40mm Kehin butterfly unit. I'd like to replace the carb, looking into what it will take.
FYI: 1996 was first year of xl1200s, I own one, bought new, one of 541 in Red. 1998 was the first year of the upgrades: 10:1 compression using Buell S1 Lightning heads, dual plug single fire, dual piston brakes, different colour paint and engine and exhaust, cams were changed to short-duration camshafts which peak 5100 rpm as bike is set up for low end torque, improved oil pump and probly some other things. I think these upgrades were to comply with emissions.

@@chrissmith7669 if the ignition module is the only issue, it’s an easy and cheap thing to replace and buy. I replaced my ignition module but the real problem was the carburetor. Make sure that thing is in tip top shape. I rebuilt mine. There is a great video from J&P Cycles on this and many on UA-cam. In particular, make sure the vacuum hood is in good shape. Personally, I’d buy a Harley CV Carburetor replacement kit on JP Cycle and rebuild it with all new internals.
Great video and a rare great bike . Very impressive evaluation & presentation . Its obvious your well educated which makes for interesting viewing .BUT ! Please replace or at lest clean those 2002 SE spark plug wires . LOL . And you are right on the money of not installing a Mikuni ! Not only are they way too responsive & jerky but they are way too noisy with all that clattering sound they make . Ride safe and Love the Lord . 😊
Good buy, mate. For me, I'd lose the forwards and slot a Supertrap on but a lovely bike and some good info. Couldn't agree more about the carb and cable lubing.
April 1999 Tampa, I'm at TECO working, and they decide to paint lines in parking lot white near my bike, my fenders still wear the splatters. They never really hurt my bike, the splatters are tiny, and I have a story, and being Canadian, I did not have a gun.
You did a good job, and nothing irreversible if you decide to go back to stock later on. One question: where did get the ignition coil? I noticed it's black (original is grey), is it an aftermarket part? Thanks, ride safe!

Also...can you give me the part numbers for the screaming eagle slip ons, and the replacement headlight, taillight and license plate. I think the wife would REALLY like those changes on hers.
Get rid of the forward controls! Handle bars to. S’s are the coolest bikes ever built by HD. Too many have been cruiserized. A shame. I really like what you did except for the bars. I would never do that to my S.
I see your point. It’s less of a sport ride with the forward controls and bars. But the bars and forward controls don’t stop me from I riding it like a Sportster should be ridden!

However, you didn't list any part numbers or where to buy in the comments section. You listed several items that I really like and want to put onto my Sportster. Especially the front turn signals that double as white running lights. But if you go online to try to find those exact lights, you get hit with a barrage of several hundred similar lights. If it's not too much of an imposition, can you plz list part numbers and place to buy in the comments section? Thank you for any help you can provide in this matter.

I would like to put on forward controls like yours. Will the standard Sportster control set fit onto the Sportster Sport?? Just thought you might know. Thanks.

Of course, double check me on this, but the nice thing about sportsters is that they have many similarities through the years. Go on eBay and look for them. Guys sell a lot of these parts. Just check they will fit your bike. But like I said, a wide range of years should fit your bike.

It’s never too late to buy your first HD! But to answer your question on difference between XL1200R vs XL1200S: When HD dropped the S (Sport) they started the R (Roadster), so the R is the following model after the S. Kind of a stripped down or basic version of the S. The S does have dual front disk, dual plugs, single fire, better compression in the motor, and a better suspension that you can adjust preload and rebound. Cartridge front forks and remote reservoir rear shocks are the major differences in the suspension. The S has a little more power and handles better then other Sportsters.

@@johngray2526 no, not at all true. The XL1200 custom just means it has more chrome and other add ons. Just aesthetics. But they are all built on the same frame, same motor, etc. Only the XL1200S and R are different. There are many many Sportsters out there. You can get one at a good price, I’m sure. Find the one you like best and in the best condition and you’ll be ready to rock’n roll!

And yes, the windshield is Memphis Shades, it's in excellent condition and all the mounting hardware is on the windshield, ready for you to put on your bike. The real thing that's wrong is the forward controls the rest you might want if you go anywhere very far,and the stock bars are the best for handling.the z bars are ugly sorry Eric would never put those bars on a bike.
Point taken: it's more rare than it is a classic. By 'classic' I am referring to the Harley-Buell partnership to build the Sportster Sport XL1200S. It was made from1998-2003 and I think about 30,000 were made. Many were bought by young guys who cared more about speed than the bike itself. So, many of these bikes in the original form did not survive. Finding an XL1200S in very good shape is very hard, which makes it rare.
Very common idle for the older carbureted Harley’s. Unlike the newer fuel injected ones that came out a few years later, the idle on the older Harleys a low. Many people, including myself, like that sound. The classic Po-ta-to, Po-ta-to, Po-ta-to sound of the idle. This is the spec Harley wants you to follow in the manual. I could increase the idle by adjusting the carburetor but then it would be out of spec.

I’ve inherited a 2003 anniversary hugger 883. starting the restoration this weekend. Also kept in beautiful condition. Great looking bike.

Would have gone with classic Buckhorns, but that’s just my personal preference.
I was debating doing that. Buckhorns would look great. But I wanted to make an older bike look a little more modern so I chose key stone bars.

Mine has Vance & Hines neighbor hater pipes with no crossover. Not sure if that's good or bad.
It depends on how the bike is tuned. My guess is it’s probably fine. A lot of people make that switch with no crossover.
Lol, not unusual for a sportster to have cruiser accessories.
