    The regulator wire goes directly to the battery, not a breaker. Not sure why but that's what the wiring schematic shows for my 1983 FXE. Your bike may be different.

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  8 місяців тому +1

      In the older models the breaker was between the rectifier and the starter then it was moved after the starter solenoid in the 80s. If you don’t run a breaker and your stator or rectifier overloads, then your wiring will burn or the battery will pop. It’s just a good safety addition to your wiring.

    • @tomconte1765
      @tomconte1765 8 місяців тому +1

      @@butlercustoms I agree and I have moved my regulator wire from the battery to the 30 amp breaker. Believe it or not the Harley service manuals are not all 100% correct. I guess that's why they have a page in them for owners to report manual errors and omissions. Thank you.

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  7 місяців тому

      Thank you for your kind words. The kill switch runs to the coil and cuts off power to the coil. If you have a plunger on your starter then you don’t need a starter button. And you can remove the key ignition but you will still need a switch to turn your coil, ignition, and lights on. Hope this helps.

    What size fuses/breakers go on each circuit? Had my shovel chopper wired and it blew a 20 amp fuse the second time i tried starting it. Maybe that circuit needs a 30 amp fuse . I havent yet checked out the wiring to see what the blown fuse goes to. I plan to go over everything i payed to have done! Nedd to stop hiring people and learn it my self. Just dont have much time and people talk a good talk but dont often deliver! Guy had my bike a year and a half just to do the wiring! Tks!

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  Рік тому +1

      Sorry to hear about your wiring trouble. A good indication of what size fuse is needed is to look at the size of the wire. The smaller the wire, the smaller the fuse. If it’s a main fuse usually they are 50 and I like the mechanical ones that reset instead of blowing. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    So when you wire this up,what color wire goes to what function,i just got a 1973 ironhead sportster,and looks like a few "electricians" were in this taped up here,yellow krimp on connectors over there,green coroasion coming out,3 differet color and different gauge wire on same run..

    What about the coil I have a 1977 Harley-Davidson Confederate Rebel 1000 Sportster xhl I believe is what it is and I have a wire going from the left side of the coil down to where the stator wire hooks in for the rectifier which I don't have a rectifier I have a what the hell do you call it regulator from the regulator it goes to the battery then

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  11 місяців тому

      Let me look up in the manual for that year. I’ve never seen a wire coming from the coil and going to the regulator. Usually the only wire coming off the coil is for the tachometer. But I’ll check and get back with you. Thanks for commenting.

      According to the manual wiring diagram for your year. You should have a green/yellow wire going to the ignition timer and a white wire that goes to the kill switch on the bars. I can send you a pic of the diagram if you want to email me. Butlercustomsmotorshop@gmail.com.

    Hello, I just got a kz400 engine but it only came with the stator. So I just purchased a contact breaker and an ignition coil. But I cant find any more information online since its a bike from 1977. Is there anything else I will need to start the engine? Im looking to just add it to my go kart, so all I need is spark but not sure what components I will need or how to wire it.

    • @butlercustoms
      @butlercustoms  5 місяців тому

      Great question. I believe the kz’s are a single contact points. Which will ground to frame and the lead wire ran to the coil. Then your coil will need a hot feed usually from a kill switch. So you can stop the motor from running. Hope this helps.

      If it’s chopper wired then there would be no bank angle sensor. That’s the sensor that kills power to the coil so the bike stops running if the bike falls over. What year make and model do you have? Might be easier to work it out via email. Butlercustomsmotorcycleshop@gmail.com
