So are you gonna talk about the period of time where Pheromosa was used in OU in gen 7 and used to use choice scarf to counter Greninja with choice scarf?
And scarf aerial ace dugtrio haha that meta was horrible
@@joeydaveyphoto2032 that sounds simultaneously hilarious and horrifying
I actually remember that it was insane that such a fast Pokémon would use a scarf
@@kassygo1375 how does it even wear a scarf? the scarf could cut through pheromosa because its so thin

For those who want more info on that, I'd redirect you to BKC's video on the DPP Uber lead metagame (just be ready for BKC's style of narration as I know it can cause problems if you have attention issues due to the length of the video and the frequent tangent he goes through, but his videos are incredibly in depth)
Edit : damn, even Freezai himself recommended it, I have nothing more to say lol
I love bkcs style it’s nice to listen to when it’s not your soul focus
My man BKC could write a PhD thesis on just the DPP Ubers lead meta
@@omernalbant264 He did a one hour video on the benefits of Protect on Ho-Oh in gen 4 Uber, I am sure the man is able to write a whole damn thesis on anything
There is no such thing as attention issues when listening to bkc, you can have all the adhd you want but even then you'll still be hardpressed to miss a single word from him, after all he will be the one who's in control of it.
Worst case scenario you finish watching one of his videos and suddenly it's dark outside and you missed lunch or whatever work you had to do in that time.
@@wertyxq3468 Well, I received the notification whilst I was (re)watching his video on why Snorlax is the king of GSC and would you look at that ? This comment is now hours old and I stopped watching his video on Salamence in gen 4 because I have remembered that I should answer, shows how addicting his videos are
It still amazes me how people saw 180 base speed and said "make it faster"
and thus, gamefreak got an idea for a brand new electric-type legendary they'd release in sw/sh that would be 100000% balanced (trust me bro) :))))))
I only do doubles in vgc, but learning about the best competitive strats in other formats is so helpful for thinking of unique ideas & learning mechanics that don’t pop up in my format as frequently.
did you play in that may 6th tournament?
did you play in that may 6th tournament?
Nah, I work too much sadly
Love the bkc shoutout! He has done a gen 4 Ubers invitational not too long ago, and has really detailed analysis of most of the games. To learn the tier, I would really recommend watching the first few uploads he does of the tournament, as he talks quite a bit about the different lead matchups and teamcomps. I would highly recommend watching them if you’re interested in the tier!
“Maybe, one day in the future, choice scarf deoxys speed will be outdated”
>Regieleki
Lead Ho-oh is also incredibly good in part because not only does it hit almost every lead hard (really it just struggles vs Kyogre because lead ttar doesn't run a rock move) it also locks deo s out of extra layers because of sacred fire burns
Until you run banded ho-oh and destroy kyogre with brave bird
Unless it's Banded, it is far from guaranteed to put the more common bulky Deo-S variants into range where it is KO'd (even with LO there's around 50% chance that a Max HP/0 Def Deo-S is put into Burn range, and taking into account both the accuracy and the fact burn is in itself a coin flip and the potential to crit, that's around 20% probability, and LO is already generous as many lead Ho-Oh would prefer another item like Passho Berry for example to smack Kyogre lead for example or Lum Berry to shrug off the Darkray leads and eviscerate it back.
Ho-Oh definitely is a great lead and it can win against the Sash Deo-S, but it's generally not considered a good lead against Deo-S because it struggles to reliably prevent it's shenanigans (and ironically, getting tricked a Scarf by Deo-S is also generally a bad thing for Ho-Oh since it relies a ton on being able to switch moves and the Speed is not as valuable as the extra power that Band provides, it never happens because you don't want to sacrifice your Deoxys-Speed for that, but if you're the Ho-Oh trainer, you must also respect this possibility as it can easily give free entry to something
My guess:
To abuse trick, to outspeed other Deoxys speed
Close enough, there's also the ability to lay Spikes on Scarf Darkray (there's other side benefits like ruining set up leads/ones that rely on their ability to switch moves like Ho-Oh etc but those are rather niche)
I'd give that comment an 8/10, good job
My favorite way to beat Deoxys leads in Gen IV is Ariados. What seems like a worthless mon actually matches up remarkably well against many leads.
For one it has Toxic Spikes, a rare entry hazard that can easily cripple a lot of important mons including Palkia, Groudon, Kyogre, opposing Deoxys, Blissey, Mewtwo and Mew and some variants of Giratina altered among a few others. It also has insomnia which allows it to freely switch in on Darkrai and can halt Darkrai leads or at least punish them with hazards. But the way it beats Deoxys is by using Bug Bite and Shadow Sneak, the former of which can chip Darkrai. The only way to truly counter Ariados outright is by packing a poison Mon like Tentacruel or Drapion which is a big investment. Considering that Ariados is a bad Pokémon, having a niche in Ubers is incredible.
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
Can you make a video on why mega mawile, mega kangash, mega metagross, mega salamace and aegislash were all banned from gen 6 and why aegislash dropped from ubers to uu in gen 8?
Aegislash was because of powercreep/ the nerf
Mega Metagross was banned in gen 7, but was OU in gen 6
@@senpai2.054 what nerf?
@@angelogiraultchery base 140 atk/def stats were base 150 before
and king's shield only lowers attack by 1 stage instead of 2 stages.
@@angelogiraultchery i think kings shield and aegislash's stats got nerfed, not too sure though
I never sub, and you’re one of the only people I sub to, BUT, that sub ask at 1:30 is the best of its kind. A master of his craft right here
As a possible video, how would an offensive eviolite equivalent change competitive?
Would any Pokemon become overpowered?would this be a positive or negative introduction?
Bonus, what about a speed based eviolite?
Deoxys: "I'm fast as fuck boi"
video suggestion: Why Ariados has a Gen 4 Ubers niche and no use in any other tier
Explanation: Insomnia so can counter Darkrai's Dark Void, can on paper prevent more than 1 layer of hazards from Deoxys-Speed (Focus Sash varient), very few counters to Poison Spikes which barely has any counter. There's a better explanation in the video "Creative Strategies in Competitive Pokémon (Gens 1 - 6)" by Big Yellow.
@Me i forgot how to spell for a sec.
bkc intentionally skipped ariados, I think it wasn't legit enough. FSG was the one to bring the most attention to it tho, but my man had to do a extended video on ariados, you can't fault him.
@@wertyxq3468 Technically BKC was the one who wrote the script for this video and when he did his video on the lead metagame of DPP Uber he said that he really wanted to talk about Ariados because it's really cool that he has a niche but he refrained because it's not relevant to the overall meta and he doesn't want new players to run with it when it's not something for beginners (he explained that it's main problem is that Bug Bite + Shadow Sneak doesn't KO Darkray, if it had X-Scissors it could, but it doesn't learn it and it would also be safer against bulky Deo-S. It would have at least a better niche in countering two of the best leads even if it loses to all the others as opposed to a very limited one where it somewhat counters one but not really and loses to everything else)
That was the extended cut of the story
The power creep is mental. No reason to give Regieleki such high Speed.
I love Gen 4 ubers and it’s all BKC’s fault lmao. I love his videos. Also would love more Gen 4 ubers content from you!
ahhh, goat vid!
The former -Master of Faster- Speed Demon from the days of Gen 4!
I'm still upset regular deoxys is a worse deoxys attack form
Same. I feel like a more fitting spread for Regular Deoxys would be this: 50/100/120/100/120/110

I’d love to see a video on the Meta of metronome battles
Make a video on the difference between a counter and a check
video suggestion: how dropped Aegislash from Ubers to UU?
I love this tier
It's so broken but balanced at the same time, like melee
Could you make a video on why Wynaut is the only NFE Pokémon to ever be placed in Ubers?
Good editing
I love this thumbnail
Deoxys-S: I am speed
Scarf Deo-S: I am triple half speed.
This mention of no team preview on gen 4 makes me think Zoroark would be stronger if it wasn't for it
I've always been convinced that zoroark is the whole reason they added team preview tbh
Alternatively, they might've only felt confident making an ability like illusion because they knew team preview was getting added.
At that set show-off at the start, why 8 SpAtk if you're gonna use shadow ball?
I've got a weird idea, what would the viability be for having a pokemon that uses Life Orb and has evs for being incredibly bulky, and uses a move to trade items with the enemy? Would it be possible to use recovery moves and high defense to mitigate damage while making them damage themselves? I'm mainly considering this in the game mode where you have 3 pokemon but can only use 1
you would be better off with something like toxic orb, sticky barb or black sludge
Yeah black sludge or even just toxic or rocky helmet, or sticky barb for steel types is significantly better because it still hurts them on status moves and there's no power boost
Will we ever get a blunderr/freezai collab?
Video suggestion: Why Zangoose is better then seviper period
Because it's faster , has more attack, and it's immune to poison
Can you make a video on this machine but for targeting lats?
Theorymon suggestion: what if we didn't have team preview anymore?
Zoroark becomes the new meta.
I would've used Super Sonic's Quills over Goku's Super Saiyan hair on the thumbnail.
hi freezai can you make a video on stealth rock vs spikes?
Gotta go fast
Take a shot every time he says Deoxys-Speed
Video suggestion: how ariados has a niche on dpp ubers
3:07 when you run focus sash on a pokemon with sturdy
Sturdy only became a built-in Focus Sash in gen 5.
@@darkfiredragon3410 Oh yeah mb
One of many pieces
I play gen 9 ou, and i use scarf dragapult. you can outspeed +2 dragonite, scarf meowscarada, etc
More dpp ubers content pls
Man, i have a doubles team with, scarf regieleki with electro ball and band dracovish with fishious rend, also theres sticky web and tailwind on to make my mons even faster
But doesn’t this turn the meta into both players leading scarf Deo-s and hoping to win the speed tie?
Have you done a video on Dracovish? I've been curious as to why it's banned outright rather than simply banning Strong Jaw Vish (I'm in a draft league where the latter is the case).
Banning Strong Jaw Vish wouldn't help because then it would still have Sand Rush, making it probably just as centralizing as a sand sweeper w/ teammates like Excadrill and Seismitoad to limit its already limited number of OU checks. Teams would have to built around countering Vish and sand teams at the same time, creating an unhealthy OU environment.
@@sonofab30 that's still really interesting. Weather teams don't seem particularly common in gen 8 ou, at least in my experience. Plus Arctovish has Slush Rush, so what's the difference there? Speed and typing?
@@drascia Hail teams are niche in general from my experience, sand teams are generally preferred for having a greater variety of mons benefiting from sand (Tyranitar's SpDef boost, Sand Rush Excadrill) and, similarly, Ice being super risky compared to Ground, Steel and even Rock (outside of Weavile). Granted, Arctozolt is Arctozolt, but even with Slush Rush it sorta pales in comparison to Dracovish with its slower Speed and having to run mixed sets to get the most out of its STABs, unlike Vish who can run full physical.
complex bans usually aren't done unless it's a last resort (though it feels like that methodology might be changing in recent years a bit?), plus. yeah what the other guy said, vish being ridiculously strong with sand rush and being able to run dedicated physical on sand. though tbh i feel like it might survive a re-introduction suspect test if it was complex banned from having strong jaw. also hiya lol, damn i wonder which league you're talking about. :v
@@sonofab30 thank you for all of your insight! That all makes a ton of sense. In my time in meta I've usually only seen rain and sand teams, especially considering Snow Cloak is banned in OU and sun teams are high risk. But yeah, even without SJ or sand, Vish is still a powerhouse.
Probably a stupid idea, but could someone start out with a sacrificial Pokemon which is solely for 3 stat up moves and baton pass? To up one stat based on the opponent team and then pass out to deoxys?
baton pass is banned, but most pokemon would get taunted by deoxy-speed first anyway
Why is Ninjask OU
I also used Scarf Deo-S in Gen 5 Ubers because of SmashPassing Smeargle. I customized his EV to outspeed +2 Jolly Smeargle to Trick it Scarf and rendered the game 5 vs 6
Damn that's pretty smart. So you'd try lock him into a setup move like geomancy, quiver dance or dragon dance? Or was it because you wanted to avoid the potential risk of +2 speed from moody protect on turn 1? Wouldn't protect smeargle have counterplay opportunity by switching to someone who doesn't get affected negatively by the scarf? I guess at that point you've already stopped him from setting up rocks early game lol
@@Akumo69 if he protect turn 1 and saw the trick, i immediately switch out Deo-S and save the Scarf for later, maybe into a Ferrothorn or Chansey. The presence of the knowledge that my Deo-S has sth to Trick into Smeargle make it less likely to try to comeout and setup. In an emergency, Deo-S can still outspeed a +3 Smeargle. So if he is that lucky and get a +4 speed in 2 turn (+2 from Smash, +2 from Moody) then almost every other team lose anyway.
Imagine all that speed just to get decked by a Sucker Punch
Video suggestion: Why dragonite is in national dex uu but also in ou in gen 8 (yeah i know crazy)
What surprises me the most is that the answer was "adapt the meta" and not "ban Deoxys-S from Ubers". Actually shocked that "ban it" wasn't the path taken here given how much meta-dominating stuff gets the hammer.
Pokemon are rarely banned from Ubers, and the concept didn't even exist back then.
To be fair, Uber is a bit of unique case because of it's status as being pretty much a "ban tier" itself, (and being THE ban tier prior to AG taking that position) makes banning people from it a rare ocurrence, only special cases like Rayquaza completely breaking the rules of the game and the technicalities with Arceus in DPP are good reason to ban Ubers.
@@gregorymirabella1423 Arceus is banned from gen 4 Ubers. Deoxys-S just isn't game breaking, its good but it doesn't limit the metagame
it's not banned because it's honestly a case of LandoT in modern OU or Snorlax in Gen 2 OU. It can do a million things well, but it's never completely without counterplay. And it's honestly a glue mon for offense, just like Lando. Granted Deo is never as versatile as Lando T, as its only set deviations are still hazard oriented, but the emphasis on hazards in Gen 4 Ubers highlights the effect it has on the tier, even more than kyogre water spout or all the Dracos that can be dropped
@@09f9 Arceus was previoudly allowed in Gen4 Ubers, they voted to ban it

i used to do the same with metagross in ou, pretty much the same, beat aerodactyl and other leads
Deoxys is one of the coolest Pokémon ever. Sad we don’t really see it much nowadays.
its literally not in gen 8 lol that's why
it doesn't exist, yeah, but also because stupid duskmane necrozma exists. That mon is just not fun to play against without a yveltal or caly s. It beats marshadow 1v1. That's how fat it is.
Can my lead attacker Scizor stop it? You know with Choice Band U-turn or Pursuit?
It def could but itll get up 2 hazards at least, so it wins the trade
Outbroooom the brooom
gen 4 ubers is maybe the best format of ever i promise this is not a bkc burner account
Out of all the items in gen 4 if i had to choose 1 this will be the last possible for deoxis Speed
Prediction : outspped other deoxis with Taunt
I lead choice Scarf ditto in Natdex ag when i see a deoxis speed for this exact reason

If you want more people to watch you videos name the title “Why the fastest pokemon uses a choices scarf” this title makes more sense and will probably get you more views
