Brilliant! No one sings this with as much 'spirit' as Marla Dixon. Superb clarinetists! These musicians are truly blessed to have such talent! I Feel so lucky and privileged to listen to them.
Even though we could not see her until the end, I could hear Shaye's piano coming through with that very distinctive perfect note development that she is blessed to produce !
March 8 th. IWD & Mother's Birthday. She did love HER DIXIELAND. hahaha Boy could She dance. Loved to tell me about dancing to Guy Lombardo at the TO EX. as a Young Women. MISS YOU MA.
Two great trad jazz bands. I saw Tuba Skinny on Frenchmen St. at d.b.a. a week before this performance and can't wait to get back to N.O. to see them again. Marla does an outstanding job on the vocals but would like to hear Erika Lewis of Tuba Skinny give it a try. Didn't see Erika on stage during this performance.
Bye God they all seem to be having a great time - I even saw Barnabas smiling for a few moments! I would have loved to be there with my old friend Jim Cullum!
Whoa, whoa, whoa! This is beyond wonderful. Take your pick of what you love most. Marla belts out her vocal with gusto. Shaye's barrelhouse piano is perfect. But for me, the dialogue between percussionists (starting at 3:14) is the best of all!
+drjazzisme Yep. That's James Evans. But he lives in New Orleans, now and plays full time with the Shotgun Jazz Band ! You can hear a lot more of James in Shotgun Jazz Band's great videos.
I think you mean Ewan Bleach and no, I don't think it is; being a Brit I'm biased but still have to say that I think he's in the top 2 or 3 clarinet & sax players that TS have ever had - and I sure do miss repeats of those early performances with him.
It's James Evans, originally from Wales UK but now lives in New Orleans and is married to the daughter of another great clarinet player, Sammy Rimmington.
If you get there someday before I do Over in the Gloryland Wont you tell my savior that I'm coming soon Over in the Gloryland Over in the Gloryland, oh Jesus, please take me by the hand Over in the Gloryland Over in the Gloryland, all you good folks can join the angel band Over in the Gloryland
If you mean Marla Dixon, she's the leader of one of the very best bands in NOLA, the Shotgun Jazz Band and SHE does the signing, not the other way around, but I know what you mean.
I thought it sounded great! Both are very great NOLA Dixieland Jazz bands and thought it great to hear them together. Maybe the sound equipment wasn’t exactly right but they made it work well. Cheers and Happy 2025 !!!!
If this is what Heaven is like, at 75 years old I don't mind going there, bless all the wonderful young musicians.
Brian., I am 78 and I will be looking for you. We can both stroll.
@@leetrower320 and I also, soon 74...
So Uplifting for me a mere eighty year old
Brilliant! No one sings this with as much 'spirit' as Marla Dixon. Superb clarinetists! These musicians are truly blessed to have such talent! I Feel so lucky and privileged to listen to them.
The exchange between washboard and drums was unbelievably good...pure delight.
Chris Barber has gone over but these guys keep the tradition going!
this how you make music !!!!! I love this !!
Even though we could not see her until the end, I could hear Shaye's piano coming through with that very distinctive perfect note development that she is blessed to produce !
an unbeliviable bunch of pure joy - I love it.
Tears sprouting in my eyes EVERY TIME I listen to this
Fantastic version.....thanks for uploading
jazz dosn`t get any better than this..... brilliant
< brain implosion due to my two favourite NOLA bands on stage together >
These are 2 of my favorite New Orleans Jazz bands!!!
Wow, what for a great show
This is what it's all about - sheer fun, talent and joy. Thank you
Shaye - promise to let your piano be heard more often
I agree! She plays a mean piano!
@Urbino237 she was pretty much doing that, a lot of Fridays up to the lockdown.

It was my pleasure. Great show!
When Shay Cohn puts down the horn she plays pretty good Stride. Brilliant👍👍👍
Bye God they all seem to be having a great time - I even saw Barnabas smiling for a few moments! I would have loved to be there with my old friend Jim Cullum!

the clarinet player in dark suit? surely is james evans, he originates from north Wales UK. Bill Basey
Ausgezeichnet! Splendiferous Shaye & Co., Thanks!!!!!!!

Gosh, what fun they're having!!!
The best of the two worlds
Wow this is great !!
Marvellous!
damn. Powerful stuff..
Everybody is having a ball I would love to have been there
4;25 Luv the top of Shaye's headbone.
tak, så pragtfuldt!!
Jonathan Doyle is one of my favorite clarinetist! I wish he would play more clarinet and less saxophone!
Sin Lewis no hay TUBA dónde dejaron. A la estrella de la banda, perdón hermosa no te reconocí.
I never tires of hearing this. Maybe I'll get up to the fest sometimes. I don't care to cross the Mason-Dixon line, if y'all know...
I don't blame people for not wanting to come to the South. With exceptions, it's a cesspool of humanity. Pretty, though.
Just Over in The Glory Land!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gloryland indeed.
Génial !!!!!!
Сhef-d'œuvre!
Over in the Glory Land!! 😇😇🤩🎉
OMG SUPER
Shaye on piano, Robin in washboard, Greg on guitar. Barnabus standing & playing trombone. Todd on sousaphone?
BRAVO!!!
Brilliant...I love both these bands, does anyone know if the clarinetist on the left is a chap from the UK?
+drjazzisme Yep. That's James Evans. But he lives in New Orleans, now and plays full time with the Shotgun Jazz Band ! You can hear a lot more of James in Shotgun Jazz Band's great videos.

Clarinet is James Evans from Wales UK.Brilliant young clarinet player goes well with these two red hot bands. Wish we had these bands in Australia.
Marla can really belt it, can't she? She often eschews the use of a mic at their shows.
we foreigners do miss the lyrics, wouldn't be possible to give use these in a reaction? luv the music though, fantastic musicians
Gloryland is an old gospel song. There are many variations of the lyrics, and you can find them online with a search for gloryland.
jazzbo43 yep I know there r many lyrics on internet but we like Marla's text here in Amsterdam to sing along. What a great voice she has !
If you get there someday before I do
Over in the Gloryland
Wont you tell my savior that I'm coming soon
Over in the Gloryland
Over in the Gloryland, oh Jesus, please take me by the hand
Over in the Gloryland
Over in the Gloryland, all you good folks can join the angel band
Over in the Gloryland
é impressão minha ou o baterista humano é corintiano, parece o simbilo do corinthians na parte de cima do instrumento dele, Vai Corinthians
Just noticed the crutches on right Bull fiddle player is seated - ??????
The bass player, "Twerk Thomson", was on crutches because of a broken foot.
Who’s on the Johanna?
A little audio sync prob, eh?
Somebody tell me please what kind of jazz is this?
Traditional New Orleans Jazz
And, thankfully NOT: Smooth (elevator music), "modern", Be-bop, et al. This is the REAL stuff.
Tuba skinny should sign Maria
If you mean Marla Dixon, she's the leader of one of the very best bands in NOLA, the Shotgun Jazz Band and SHE does the signing, not the other way around, but I know what you mean.
And replace Erica - NOOOO!! Skinny done got the Best tp in the business - Shaye. Sometimes, status quo is better than change.
Absolutely nothing wrong with Maria’s singing, she’s great. However TS already have their own torch singer Erica Lewis.
Skinny? Wheres the tuba?
Todd is behind the clarinets
Tuba Skinny: pure professionals. Shotgun Jazz Band: rank amateurs. Are they still even in existence?
H
Sorry! Not for me! There’s only one band and that’s TUBA SKINNY this is just a big noise! I pity the audience stuck in the front!
Bill Baynes, you have a tin ear!
I thought it sounded great! Both are very great NOLA Dixieland Jazz bands and thought it great to hear them together. Maybe the sound equipment wasn’t exactly right but they made it work well.
Cheers and Happy 2025 !!!!
