    This. This vid right here changed SO much for me.
    I always hated my line art and wanted to just quit drawing but this, THANK YOU.
    Dear sweet gawd, THANK YOU so much for this.

    Good tutorial, but I recommend using the Smooth Stroke option along with the ink tool. I feel it's faster and you get very neat and clean lines.

    • @Outofcomission
      @Outofcomission 9 років тому +3

      Whats the smooth stroke option? And where do I find that option?

    • @Hauptseite
      @Hauptseite 7 років тому +21

      2 years old, but for anyone else scanning through these comments and wanting to know the answer to that question; click on the ink tool which is next to the airbrush tool (which is next to the eraser), then simply look down on the ink tool options which is usually automatically docked. Smooth stroke is right there near the top of all the options. I'd personally not keep it too high.

      Agreed. This method is fine, for more simplistic, cartoony art. For more realistic and/or detailed works, it can become very tedious to clean up the lines. I actually used the paths tools method, but stroked my lines using the ink tool as was suggested and the lines were SO gorgeous. Thank you ZucankiZX and The Masquerader for the tip. It was incredibly helpful.

    I had no idea this tool even existed.
    I do have a tablet, but linework is incredibly hard, it is just wobbly and messy for me.
    So I might try this method for much cleaner lines.
    Thanks a lot!

    Oh for those who don't want to have to erase the excess parts of the strokes, you can edit the way the strokes are drawn so that the curvature makes a more cusp like shape.

    How do I get those menus in the bottom half of the toolbox? Such as for the eraser and line tool?
    I have re-traced the same image too many times to keep having it all disappear repeatedly. Also how do you readjust line size? once I trace all the lines made, I cannot reduce the size of the line, it will only increase in size.

  • @Mindmodic

    This is very tedious and time consuming method, but it does come out with neater results. Though I still prefer to redraw the lines and use the Smooth Stroke function.

    • @TheFuriousFighter
      @TheFuriousFighter 9 років тому

      I know it was fast but, you need to stroke the path as he did in the video, first it will be a grey line with dots and stuff but if you stroke the line you will get a solid black outline on the line and it will also remove the dots and stuff. Hope I helped!

      I don't know if you already found your answer, but you can switch to a different tool and it should disappear. I think there is a box where you can turn off and on the paths.

  • @williamperkins4279
    @williamperkins4279 9 років тому

    I hardly use pathtools for inking prefer tablet and stabilizers for inking, although if using pathtool I'd probably use smoothpath plugin registry.gimp.org/node/20069 lol I hate trying to line up those path curves.
    I might also use emulate brush stroke option because I like tapered ends and maybe registry.gimp.org/node/19759 for paths that I want to emulate taper on one side not both unlike gimps standard emulate brush stroke.
    If I am wanting to use gimp for only some parts of drawing I would use shellout plugin registry.gimp.org/node/24977 as it allows for quick exporting and automatic opening of files in external programs like inkscape, sai, firealpaca, clip paint studio etc. it also loads file when done back into gimp automatically, really handy for workflow makes programs seem to work together.(to bad shellout only works for windows users.)
    I imagine you could also color with solid colors then use color to selection tool then use selection to path then smooth path and last use stroke path, if you dislike using the manual pathtool unsure of results it would create this way though. Great Video buonopanda thanks for taking the time to freely share :)
