Who is the BMW F 800 GS Adventure for? Its big brother, the R 1200 GS, is the Adventure bike all others are judged against, and that leaves the F 800 GS Adventure in limbo-land - too big to be a learner bike while being permanently in the shadow of the R 1200 GS.

Sump guard adds awful resonance as demonstrated at the beginning. Otherwise a 700gs is great when the 1200 gets too heavy (at about retirement age) once you sort out the suspension, i.e. replace the rear, whether it is adjustable or not, and get an expert to modify the front.

just remember that this is basically the same engine as the road F800s and they had real problems right around the world. I spent 1/4 of the purchase price on servicing and parts failures in 2 years. I had to take BMW australia and Procycles to the consumer tribunal to get them to obey the NSW fair trading act. Buy on of these and beware.

I have owned 2 x std gs800's and 1 x gs800 adv.No problems during my ownership and found them to be great bikes.

Wow, sounds like you were very unlucky, maybe a Monday lemon? These have a very good reputation for reliability, and they’re widely seen exploring the globe

@ronanrogers4127 in the more recent reliability surveys BMW as a brand now rate worse than Harley Davidsons. A dealer told me recently that most brands talk about failures per 100 bikes BMWS are failures and recalls per bike. In Australia we have had a number of BMW adventure bike spoked wheels falling at speed severely injuring riders. BMW is just not a brand I want anything to do with.

Better still buy aTriumph. They honor warranty unlike BMW did for me.

    wish it had 100hp

It could make 100hp but would be @ over 9k rpm and loose a lot of the low down power. The f800r is around 90hp. The style of the bike would not really lend itself well to canning the engine for 100hp. It wouldn't be more relaxed either the same capacity tuned for higher top end power
