Erik Bunty it wasn’t just the Wheel. Dawson had been showing signs of discontent throughout the year even before the Wheel was added. He just had enough.
Yeah, sometimes if the question is really dumb, the best you can do is try to get a laugh out of it. There really was no good answer. I guess "dress" is the tired old standby answer that best fits the context, but it's hardly what I would call a definitive answer here.
I can really see that Richard Dawson was 'working to rule' and cut out his usual flare, even during the panel video review. But Dick Martin and Charles Nelson Riley are really trying to reach out to him.
A perfect storm. The celebrity wheel, Family Fued, and listening to Brett run her yapper for five years, it was time. Not sure Brett or Charles had a whole lot going on in their careers they had to stay. If FF had not become such a hit, Richard might have been more tolerant or maybe he was tired of the same old questions. But without Match Game, he might not become a household name. Hogan's Heroes ended in May 1971 and MG started the summer of '73.
Free spirit flying again! WOW Dayton! ;0) You are right MGP, Gene is wearing those shoes in every episode lately.. ;0) Kind of like the brown shoes he worn alot in MG75 I think.. ;0)
You know these shows are classics when a panelist asks if "boobs" is an appropriate response. Wow! Today, they'll say anything. Shows how "far" we've come or, more like, degenerated.
@@garfield2439 I agree but, he was an integral part of the show and everyone noticed his unhappy attitude including the fans. They were confused by it and didn't like it..
I understand about being tired and over it, however show your displeasure behind the scenes, not in front of the camera! It was really very unprofessional and childish. It’s was like he was giving the finger to the contestants, audience, and viewers.
That woman was terrible at the celebrity match. She just had to go with Richard (twice) and lost (twice) cause King Richard can do no wrong. Spoiler: He did wrong. How did no one say "Combination lock"??? That came to my mind immediately.
Its a tab with a buttonhole. A corresponding button would be under opposite collar so theoretically one could pop the collar and close the jacket up to the neck, but it's really just an affectation...faking an English hacking jacket. If you notice, it matches the fabric on his elbow patches.
"The doctor says, 'It's time for your bath now.'" Charles is HILARIOUS!
Charles was right, Gene’s acting goofy.
GROW UP!!!! (ALL OF YOU)!!!
You know VERY WELL if that had been Brett, you'dve said she was hogging the camera!
The first question shows how much the celebs don't always pay attention. Joyce was the only smart one. Hippo is the perfect answer.
Elephant is pretty good, too. Truck driver was the dumb answer.
Usually Joyce Bulifant gives answers that don't match...like Patti Deutsch often did.
That Donna kinda seemed like a blank slate😵💫
Richard is not happy.
He wasn't ever since the star wheel was introduced. Just going through the motions.
Erik Bunty it wasn’t just the Wheel. Dawson had been showing signs of discontent throughout the year even before the Wheel was added. He just had enough.
1978 times were changing the show was done, it was getting old same old jokes over and over (Brett)
@@lynskyrd78 that’s exactly right. It had ran its course. Was imo the best game show ever
He doesn't look happy 😢😢😢
Richard probably thought "this is my final week, why even care?"
The lack of that Dawson charm and zeal is palpable in his last week!
Damn, these later Dawson episodes are painful to watch.
They really are
I'm sure they were 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
he is ornery for sure
I would have said lock too, first thing that came to mind.
I wonder if Richard knew it was his last week because he sure does have a case of Idon'tgiveacrapitis.
There is no perfect answer for the strange uncle and the will.
He says goodbye so fast it caught me off guard!
This contestant was absolutely horrible at Match Game!
Yep. I’m amazed she even got as far as the audience match (twice). Terrible contestant!
Yes she was. I guess with her hair bleached it must have leeched into her brain. Because she sure didn't use it.
I agree!!
The stars were giving some damn answers during the Super Match, especially Richard.
She was so cure though
Charles AKA Chuck came up with the best answer, rubbers and a raincoat, that's funny stuff

A good 90 percent of these questions are repeats.

11:02 I think this is the first time a contestant has had two consecutive non-matches for the Audience Match

I just love it when the contestants answers are this lame :/
And those questions.

There is a combination lock
Speeding ticket in his GARAGE! That is the right answer. Just saying!
They all make fun of Joyce but she wasn’t really that dumb. I’m thinking it was all an act for ratings like when Charles and Brett fight
She wasn't dumb at all, that was part of her charm. 😊
She cracks herself up for sure.
@@pencils812 You got that right. She cracks HER self up
(although she was still 10 times better than Patty)

Agree with the social filters. Modern people are virtually illiterate and are confined to expletives.
That was a joke, they were using "boob" in 73 as well.
Speaking of strange, Gene’s acting stranger than anyone on the show.
I wish Dawson would've looked happier during his last couple of weeks
Why by then he was so fed up and exhausted it was well past time to go

Bactrian camels have two humps, not dromedary. I thought Gene knew everything.
Gene is wearing brown and white shoes with blue slacks, not good for the 70’s. Same shoes he wore on the previous show with brown slacks.
He is mixing and not matching!
These people have become very arrogant in the latter shows.
Gene has been mixing and not matching his suit pieces,
Was that a stain on Gene's suit on his left side

I wouldn't have noticed had you not mentioned it.
2 out of 3 is usually a good sign in the audience match.
It's not a good sign when no one applauds your answer...and nobody applauded Richard's answer.
That was a hard audience match.
I can’t stand Brett!
Me either
Neither can I.
Third. She's a loudmouth jerk.
I agree........too
Jealous of Brett AGAIN!!! WOW!!!
(well at most people loved her, that's good enough for me 😃)
Wonder if Richard was sad to leave the show??
He couldn't wait to leave.
