"my 11 year old son was left shaking and physically sick after 10 minutes." 'Jane Ward' Lol, I bet he was so grateful that his mum announced that to the world. Street cred beyond repair.
I watched Ghostwatch as a 10 year old. It seriously scared the living shit out of me. I had to sleep with lights on for two weeks and I was scared for my life, I cried each night. Now I'm a wuss, I'll admit that, but that show was and still is the most legitimately scary thing I've ever seen. Nothing in my life has come close to the power of that show on that evening, and that's why I love it so. It thrills me to think that something can be that powerful :) Anyone else have a similar experience?
I shat my pants watching that show at 14. No-one told me it wasn't real and i fell for it big time. 'Pipes' - just that name sent shivers down my spine for years afterwards.
I love it! I was 10 when Ghostwatch first aired and I was throughly terrified by it! I watched it again recently and I was still throughly terrified by it, "pipes" is a word that sends a shiver down my spine to this very day!
Thank you very much for this. I can remember Anne Robinson's comments on Sarah Greene's acting, but I haven't seen this in 17 years. Didn't realise she was quite so flippant.
On IMDB it says the makers of Blair Witch saw Ghostwatch and were inspired by it...hope its true! Good to see some positive comments were sent to POV at the time.
"...did not understand that drama meant fiction." I sometimes wonder how some people manage to make a cup of tea in the morning without setting themselves on fire.
i only saw this last night i could tell after the bedroom footage it was a spoof but i realy enjoyed it i found myself playing wheres pipes and spotted him 6 times
"And hands up those who thought Sarah Greene was acting. No, never mind that question. Did it look convincing?" Brutal. Just brutal. I miss Points of View.
I watched Ghostwatch when I was 9. Missed the first 10 mins so had no idea it was just a mockumentary and thought it was the real deal. I was fucking terrified lol. Watching it back now, I feel embarrassed that I didn't realise it wasn't real!
Turns the TV on Ghosts and Goolies and things that go bump in the night? The British public should have known by that point about understatement, when we go to the dentist we hear, " You might experience a bit of discomfort." That means bloody sore.
I'd just turned 11 when this was broadcast, and of course at that age I was completely taken in. As a child with an over-active imagination to begin with, I ended up a jibbering wreck and had to sleep with the lights on for the next 2 weeks! Watching again just now it's hilarious just how bad the acting was - I think Sarah Greene was even more disasterous than the 2 kids! They should have cast her in the Christmas pantomime instead!!
one viewer wrote in saying:"it was an insult to their intelligence" that statement,in my opinion ,illustrates that it was an insult because of their lack of intelligence! Ghostwatch was original and highly entertaining and at the end of the day, if you don't like something on tv or are becoming upset and disturbed by it,you should switch it off ! I think Parkinson said something like that in his dialogue during the show!
Orson Wells, may he rest in peace, and his fellow actors did a similar thing. Except, they were SPACE ALIENS AND NOT GHOSTS, Plus, it was a radio show and not a TV SHOW..
Watched it, got frightened to death, me and my brother were sent to bed (in the dark) with slapped legs! 10 minutes before it finished. 😂.... That was the 90s for you! Think you're scared of ghosts?, fear your mother more!! 🤣
reading the comments here, its hysterically funny just how many 8 - 11 year olds watched that show! So much for the 'Watershed'!! Love the parenting skills lol. Thankfully, I was in my late 20s when it aired and thoroughly enjoyed it but sorry, for me, it wasn't scary at all. Well-made though.
Ironically, Sarah Greene, Mike Smith, Michael Parkinson and Craig Charles were the best actors in it. The other professional actors, notably the woman talking to Parky, were abysmal.
I was ten when this aired and I loved it! If your kid is so feeble they are left shaken and physically sick by watching Ghostwatch, you have failed them.
I was 10 too and it scared the bejesus out of me but still loved it and I'm now a massive fan of horrors so much so that I haven't seen anything that frightened me as much as ghost watch did mores the pity x
I was about 18 at the time and thoroughly shat myself. But then I was quite mentally ill at the time. As appose to the people who complained who were just thick
why were people letting their kids watch the show in the 1st place?? Its like renting a horror movie, putting it on for the kids then moaning to the rental store that it scared their kids so they wouldn't sleep. I can't believe the intelligence of some people.
I HATE THIS IT IS AN INSULT TO MY INTELLIGENCE!!! hahah sounds like some skeptics were pissed off. I wonder how they feel now watching TLC or History or 99% of anything on TV. Oh, it only went more downhill.
i truelly do love ghost watch..i got it on dvd....but im sorry, the acting from the mother and the 2 daughters(even the doctor in the studio(lynn pascoe??))is real cheesy...enough to give it away as a drama!!dont see how anyone can take it as real!!
"many of the people I help did not understand that drama means fiction" If you don't understand what drama means, you shouldn't be watching television.
It amazes me that people sat their kids up to watch this, despite it being clearly scheduled for adult audiences. Just goes to show how people use television as their own babysitter! Of course kids were scared, it was a horror film! And "people do live in haunted houses"?? No, they don't, because there's no such thing.
"my 11 year old son was left shaking and physically sick after 10 minutes."

Points of View! Wow, that brought back memories!
..In recent times I've made it tradition to watch "Ghostwatch" every Halloween, will be no different this year, roll on the 31st!
I shat my pants watching that show at 14. No-one told me it wasn't real and i fell for it big time. 'Pipes' - just that name sent shivers down my spine for years afterwards.

amen.
Seriously though, what a great show. Top work.

I wonder who she thought was The Weakest Link ;)
"many of the people I help did not understand that drama means fiction"
Even if you had a caption on screen saying "IT's NOT REAL" some people
Somehow I never saw it back in '92, but heard about it via Points of View.
I love Anne! Thank you very much for posting this.
"They're frightened enough without being ridiculed by Michael Parkinson"
one viewer wrote in saying:"it was an insult to their intelligence" that statement,in my opinion ,illustrates that it was an insult because of their lack of intelligence! I was 17 when I watched this and believed it was real. Reminded me of the Enfield Poltergeist incident.
I know a few people who had pooed their pants repeatedly upon viewing
Most terrifying thing I seen when I was 11! Didn't out me off though love horrors now x
Watched it, got frightened to death, me and my brother were sent to bed (in the dark) with slapped legs! 10 minutes before it finished. 😂.... That was the 90s for you! Think you're scared of ghosts?, fear your mother more!! 🤣

It went out on a Saturday, though; for most kids that's the night they get to stay up a bit later.

Rods toy box I am 26 and I just saw that. My heart has yet to cease it's excessive beating and i am scared out of my wits.
Great 😊
what would these people do if they watched The Last broadcast , paranormal activity or Blair witch project?
Probably laugh because they’re crap.
Ghostwatch was awesome 👻
I was about 18 at the time and thoroughly shat myself.
But then I was quite mentally ill at the time.
As appose to the people who complained who were just thick
00:33 If you let your ten-year-old watch TV after the 9pm watershed then it's your fault. That's the whole point of having a watershed.
I thought Ghostwatch was much better than Blair Witch, much more interesting bits than 3 grunge kids wandering about in the woods.
@MODTRASH Yeah some kid who had learning difficulties committed suicide.

The rest might have!

Operation Yewtree would've nailed Mr Pipes.
M.P Parker from Dorset :
Paranormal= serious business
Hahahaha
"many of the people I help did not understand that drama means fiction"

My 11 year old shit himself. I am very MMaaaaddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!

"One sure mark of a fool is to dismiss anything outside of his experience as impossible."
Sarah greene was by far the best in the whole show infact all the non actors were more convincing than the pro' actors
Sarah Greene was lovely , what happened to her i wonder.
Is Sarah Greene still hanging around glory holes?
