Angra e Sepultura sempre foram referências mundiais e isso nos dá muito orgulho!!!!!
There's two meanings to the name.
1- Its a city name here in Brazil
2- Means goddess of fire and beauty in a native brazilian mythology
Angra also means "pier/port". That's why the city is calls "Angra dos Reis". King's port, or King's Landing. 🤯
There is a couple of nuclear power plants there
Long live Brazilian metal. 🇧🇷
Agreed.
RIP Andre Matos. This song is back from 1993. Angra is kind of one of the original staples in Power Metal next to Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, and so on. Micheal Kiske was probably the vocalists your talking about from Helloween and yes very similar styles. Even the great Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray, Iron Savior) collaborated with Angra throughout the years. Midori from Lovebites is a very big fan of Angra as well
Actually Sascha Paeth produced the whole album at Kai Hansen's studio. No surprise it sounds like german power metal. RIP André Matos
Just adddind to the discussion, Herman Li from Dragonforce said that Angra was a huge inspiration for them
Angra was worshiped in Argentina during the Matos era. Incredible musicians, incredible people. RIP mestre.
Angra was huge in south america, as well as pretty popular in Japan. Fantastic band.
Also in northern Europe, everyone into power metal knew of them back in the day. Brilliant shit, we had stuff like stratovarius, twilightning, sonata and million of other less known power metal groups in Finland at the time Angra did their thing on the other side of the world and people still knew of their stuff which just goes to show you how phenomenal the early Angra stuff was. Most power metal just got buried under strato and sonata because they took the country over but angra still broke through to power metal crowds consciousness.
"That's not what I expected from Brazil"
Man, try Angra - Carolina IV, it's pure Brazilian roots.
Thanks for your review!
I have this on my request list.
I would risk to say all the Holy Land album, but you can find brazilian song style in others songs from Angels Cry, where comes Carry On, specially Never Understand.
=)
Holy Land is definitely thier masterpiece
Yes,this song is amazing,simply a gem✨✨✨
Gosto mais do Holy Land atualmente do que o Angels Cry, que álbuns sensacionais.
Angra is more of a symphonic power metal band, than pure power metal. Andre Matos (R.I.P) was called The Maestro, cause he was accomplished conductor and he was composing the symphonic parts. His first band was Viper, then Angra, after splitting with them he created Shaman. Also he had solo albums and he was one of the permanent singers in Avantasia until his death. He was on stage with Avantasia a few days before he died of a heart attack age 47. But he will always live in our hearts.
André fazendo muita falta ao metal. Saudações do 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Angra is top 10 power metal bands of all time. Even today with legend Fabio Leone, Barbosa and the rest of the crew this band is still amazing.
Nop
About the part of the video where you talk about Angra playing in small places and big stadiums, Angra had a very nice affection for the public and accepted small shows to be able to play in remote places of Brazil, I went to their show that had 80 people and they went down off the stage to have a beer with us. Miss you Andre Matos =(
Doesn't get much cooler than that. Such a great memory, I'm sure.
Respect Andre Matos!
This one was cool. Be well, my friend.
Angra is the goddess of fire in the Tupi-Guarani mythology of native Brazilians and a city on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state.
The intro is a version of Schubert Unfinished Allegro. Is the first track on their debute album (Angels Cry) . And is followed by Carry on(2nd track). That's why someone edited them together.
And this song is quick and upjoy, but is just power metal with some classical influences. If you want to hear their real talent, try a song called 'Carolina IV'. It has a lot more Brazilian taste to it and is not just a power metal common song.
Thanks for this comment, so I didn't have to write it. Valeu!
I've added Carolina IV to the request list.
@@ProjectEllsworthReacts Carolina IV is a true masterpiece. If you liked the simple transitions in Carry On, you'll be impressed Corolina IV!
@@ProjectEllsworthReacts I'm very curious to see your reaction to Carolina IV.
Actually the first part you heard is like a introduction to the album. It's the first song.
Following, we have Carry On itself, the second song in the album, that starts at 02:40 in the video.
It's very nice to see you react a Brazilian band, Welcome to Brazilian metal 😉
I've listened to several.
André Matos sing very very high notes .... Is almost impossible sing like him 🙏🏻🙏🏻rip
They was famous in japan too
glad to see that Angra is reaching ears outside of brazil even today!
I will surely be reacting to more from them in the future. Thank you for watching.
angra is top 5 in power metal circles. youtube is making power metal more and more relevant.
Angra aways makes us Brazilians proud and represented in the metal word, and even though power metal is not your thing, you should listen to some of the "Edu Falaschi - Vera Cruz" New album... He's a former singer from Angra in solo carrer, and this album is a true masterpiece and a musical work of art.
Many UA-camrs, when reacting to things from Brazil, are amazed at the increase in interactivity. There's a guitarist named Kilo Loureiro who currently plays in Megadeth. Good analysis.
🇧🇷
Yeah, long live Brazilian metal, long live Angra 😍❤️🇧🇷
João Gordo from Ratos de Porão also used to joke with André Matos back in the MTV days, calling him the vocalist of Journey, Helloween, and Bruce Dickinson. Funny hahahaha! RIP Maestro
Angra ex-guitarist is now on Megadeth...Mr. Kiko Loureiro...
Angra is absurd.. is a great band in Brazil... absolutely Divine.
I know he is. I saw him with Megadeth last September. It was as fantastic as it always is.
Thank you for accept my suggestion! And even I don't know how it's pronounced my last name hahaha. This band is one of the influences for Lovebites mainly for Midori.
Of course, Jean. Thank YOU for watching/listening. Be well my friend.
The clip shows images from Masters of Rock '94, which is a festiv, that's why theybare playing in a hughe venue. And then it shows them playing in a solo concrrt in Olympia, which was a smaller venue in São Paulo.
The bass in this song is one of the greatest bass lines in history
E isso aí 👏👏👏👏👏ANGRA 👏👏😁🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Nice review! Andre Matos was unbelievable! So much talent in a single person... The more I know about him, more I understand how genius he was. Rest in peace, Maestro 🙏
The beginning is a song call Unfinished Allegro that is a reinterpretation of Allegro moderato of Shubert, and is the opening of the album Angels Cry that is follow by Carry On.
This song is a more generic power metal song, Angra got its fame by mixing brazilian music, classic music, prog and power metal. Their best album is for sure Temple of Shadows (morre prog and agressive) and Holy Land (more brazilian rhythm)
Angra is one the main inspirations for Lovebites :)
Temple of Shadows is really fantastic album. Rebirth and Angels Cry are very good too.
Holy Land is awesome in the mix of brazilian root music and metal.
I love Angra until Rebirth, to be honest I like Temple of Shadows, but didn´t get me as the 4 first one albuns and EP´s like Freedom Call and Hunters and Prey, TOS for me is like song for wankers "Oh look at my double bass", "Oh look how fast is my pizzicato", "oh look how many notes I can play per second".
É sempre muito bom rever Angra, saudades! Que André Matos descanse em paz!
Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) was in the band at that time.
5:38 What's more, André Matos participated in a great Opera Metal musical project called Avantasia, along with Michael Kiske from Helloween!!
Rip, André... one of the greats.
andreas matos, may he rest in peace, was the singer of angra during angels cry.
Angra is an enjoyable band to listen to if you are into power metal. Carry On is from their very first album way back in the early 90s. I maybe have listened to that album twice and not very recently. I think their best album by far is Temple of Shadows and that came out about 20 years ago. I listened to that one quite a bit. To me, their biggest claim to fame these days is that they are a favorite of Midori from Lovebites. The guitarist that she wanted to pattern herself after is Kiko Loureiro who was an original member of Angra but left in 2015 and is now in Megadeth. I think Kiko was playing the neon pink guitar in the video but it was hard to tell. She picked a good one to emulate and she is now at his level or beyond.
My favorite Brazilian metal band is Nervosa and they definitely don't play metal. I think you might like them. Many of their videos are pretty dark themed.
I also suggest The Hu from Mongolia if you haven't heard them before. There is a video of them singing Song of Women with Lzzy Hale as a guest. Great song and it, of course, has Lzzy Hale so how can you say no.
Ow ow ow ow, Midori at Kiko's level?? push the breaks a little... Go listen to kiko's solo work. The best metal album of 2021 was Kiko's solo album. he is a prog jent guitarrist, at level of Petrucci and more. Midori is a great shreder;
Angra is huge in the Powermetal scenario, Europe and Japan.
@@NerdChannelBrasil I didn't know that Kiko had a new album in 2021. His album, Open Source, was a 2020 release. It is really good but I wouldn't have it in my top 20, although would not argue if others put it in their top 20. To say any of his solo work was the best of the year is a huge stretch. Me thinks someone should slam on the breaks. I mean Lamb of God's best album came out in 2020 and would be my pick. Trivium, Testament, Unleash the Archers, Spirit Adrift and, of course, Lovebites are other groups that came out with albums I would have in my top 10 for 2020. Those are just the ones off the top of my head. I also stand by my belief that Midori is every bit the guitarist as Kiki Loureiro.
Nervosa é um cocô 💩
3:50 - That first part is a intro of the album, it's the first "song" from the album. "Carry On" is the second.
I'm Brazilian, and it's weird how i got into Angra.
Firstly I was/am a Pink Floyd fan, and read all about it. I found that David Gilmour helped kickstart Kate Bush's career, who composed and performed the song Wuthering Heights.
Angra made a cover of it.
I ended up buying and speedrunning the book the song was inspired on and listening to the whole Angra debut album. Now I have four things I really like
The band's first albums are amazing, thanks for reacting, I loved it. 💖💖
Thank you.
You could react to Angra - Streets of Tomorrow LIVE IN Olympia '94. It's the same concert that appears in this videoclip, when Andre is using the red shirt
you're right: this song is from the first album, besides they are fans, its was recorded at Kai Hansen Studio from Helloween.
The Stadium Gig it's from the Monster of Rock '94 festival.
The singer Andre Matos, was fan of Journey, and recorded "Separate Ways" from Journey in his solo album. It's a pretty good song BTW.
To finish: If you react to "Carolina IV", please use the studio version, it's a masterpiece ! Congrats.
IMHO Carolina IV is their best music and Holy Land album their masterpiece.
Not my favorite album but it's Andre at his prime.
Kansas 🤣🤣 Too Funny! I don't know who sent this to you? But thank you! Not what I expected. Very cool 😎🤘! I completely enjoyed that! Thanks John. Take care. ☺️😎🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🔥✌️❤️🔥
This was very, very good. I'm just not a big power metal guy. I would like to start reacting to thigs from around the world and not just Japan.
@@ProjectEllsworthReacts check out that clip I sent you. Junk Yard Dog. Sing in perfect English. Very good band.

Steve Perry and Andre Matos have Portuguese ancestrality and similar vocals.
Braziliam metal Bro!!! 💪

KIKO LOUREIRO!! BRASIL!!
the guitarrist on this video is Kiko loureiro, he's now guitarrist of Megadeth. Andre Matos was probably the best gem from Brasil since so far, and still.. He was a maestro, pianist, vocalist, composer.. unfortunately folks in brasil don't know him, but he was for sure one of best musician in the world in terms of music arrangement and also singing... Those high notes the only few can reach and the unique war of sing.. he will be forever in music history, RIP Andre Matos.
You could do a react from Shaman - Here I Am, specially the live version. Shaman is the Band that André Matos founded after he leave Angra
I've added this to the request list.

Amazing
Angra sounds cool John. I like this 🆒👍 power metal definitely sounds cool
Ouvi muito nos anos 90
You need to listen Shaman. They are also from Brasil and with the formes musicians from Angra!
At least you were honest. Angra is very good.
Parabéns pelo trabalho 🙌👏
Haha did you think Brazil only have Samba and Carnaval? 😂 We have good quality Heavy Metal too.
Angra from Latin ancra (“valley”).
This orchestral intro is the Unfinished Allegro by Schubert. They've used to play this for introduce Carry on. It's not actually the same piece. RIP André Matos. 🤘
Thank's bro🇧🇷🎸🤟🔥
This song is the 'first' of the album and that intro is from the album itself, not random stuff =)
That album is from 93 so it got a lot of Power Metal roots/vibes but with some twists on the albuns that followed, the singer was famous for the high notes and that same album got a "Wuthering Heights" cover, yup the one from Kate Bush, at early 2000 some members of Angra started Shaman [probably Failry Tale is their most famous song] while Angra got other members and released a few more albuns [Temple of Shadows being the most famous and the more interesting to hear in full since it tells a story along all the album] until some members got out to form another band and Angra got new members [Fabio Lione from Rhapsody of Fire being the biggest surprise] and released a few more albuns until today.
É verdade, o André parece mesmo o Steve kkkkk
Saudoso André Mattos
Angra is one of the bands that most influenced Lovebites. Just watch the Swan Song...
Angra é top demais, meu xará André faz falta

Nice video. Another recommendation about brazilian band: Dr Sin - Emotional Catastrophe
good morning, Eduardo. Yes, of course I will check it out. I have added Dr. Sin to the request list. Thank you.
One of the best songs on earth. Now you have to listen to Massacration ,
Yeahhh, Massacration i'ts be niceee !
the music starts with the first guitar riff, before that the classic part is intro of the disc
wow angra its same like helloween but i like it more progresive i like it from indonesia
Please react: fairy tale - shaman (live!) and for tomorrow - shaman (live) ❤️ 😀
"he looks like Steve Perry from Journey" haha, i alwayays thought that too
Rip André mattos..
Legend 👏🙏
ANGRA has no relation at all with the English word ANGER.
Angra is a small bay. There is a famous town in a bay in Brazil called ANGRA DOS REIS
But it also seems to be the name of the Fire God of Tupi (brazilian indian tribe) mythology.
Not sure... it seems too much of a coincidence that the same word with such different meanings comes from both Portuguese and Tupi-Guarani.
Angra is also parto of the name of the God of evil in zoroastrianism.
Everything you wrote is true, but Rafael mentioned that Angra sounding similar to "angry" or "anger" was one of the things they took into consideration when choosing the name.
You have to listen to their album "Holy Land" which is way more "brazilian"!!
Hello, I'm from Brazil and I really like your reactions. I would like you to react to " Shaman - fairy tale " , I guarantee you will not regret it. thanks
I have no idea why you wrote the same thing, in the same video, 8 times. I removed the other 7. If this was to get my attention, you got it. If that happens again, there won't be a third time. Be well and be patient. Rude doesn't work here.
Hey !! Try to follow Andre Matos ( Angra’s vocalist) on Viper too !! The best guitar player is Kiko Loureiro (a sample: Dilemma -instrumental-).
Others to try:
Theatre of fate
Faery tale
Etc !!
Theres a lot of to ear !!!
Angra!
that''s soo true ... Andre look Steve perry from Journey and souns like somebody from Hallowen kkkkkkkkkkkkk
Obrigado!!!🤟
Of course.
Andre (lead vocals) almost replaced Bruce Dickinson when he left Iron Maiden in the 90's. He was in his prime at that time. Bruce sang one or two songs after that with Angra in France during an european tour. He was such an amazing musician, but unfortly he passed away in 2019. Anyway, there's a lot of good metal bands here in Brazil. Andre joined a metal band when he was only 15 years old, called Viper, and they recorded two albums with him, got famous in Japan, sang for Avantasia as well.
Next "Nothing to say" please

Andre Matos 🖤
I always think Andre as Brazilian Steve Perry 🤣🤣🤣
That's who I thought of immediately. G;ad to know I'm not alone in this thought.
R.I.P andré mattos 😢
Aqui é BRASIL PORRA! 🇧🇷
André Matos, lead singer of angra, was in the Tobias Sammet's Avantasia too
Nice reaction to a genre that isn't your forte. I got into Angra thanks to Dan Vasc's excellent cover of this song, which he did shortly after Andre Matos's death. Andre was an absolutely amazing musician! Check out Fairy Tale, the Ritualive version when he was with Shaman, The Spreading Soul Forever by Viper, and his solo song, I Will Return. He's done tons of great music - those are just my favorites. Also, check out Dan Vasc's channel - he does Helloween, Manowar, and lots more.
When it comes to Power Metal bands, their opportunities to play on big open stages usually come when being part of the lineup of a festival. I can't think of a Power Metal band big enough to fill a stadium on their own. Then again, Angra were really big in their home country so maybe they filled stadiums in Brazil while settling for smaller venues when touring the rest of the world.
🇧🇷🤘🏼🖤
