Yessss please do this monthly! There’s usually 3-4 months out of the year that I have to budget super strictly because I don’t work much those months. So this is cool to see how others budget. I totally get that uncomfortable feeling of not purchasing but honestly, after a while I realized I just like the feeling of being in store looking at things. It also made me stop and really look at price tags and now I’m more aware of the value of things.
I really appreciated the way you explained being Sarah and SRV the company. It does put things into perspective as far as the details go. I also appreciate you mentioning the fact that N & J are paid employees. I respect the transparency and have always admired how you work to navigate being a mom and being a content creator.
Monthly updates!! I love seeing stuff like this, and it also keeps me motivated for my own journey. You explained everything really well and I'm excited to see hosting content as well.
I’m doing a low-buy. We had to move like 6 times in 2023 so we are trying to actually decorate since this will finally be home for a while. I have to VET what is being purchased, trying to purchase what we can second hand, and not buying something because it’s cute. It HAS to be functional
Omg that Barnes struggle was so real! I have a tbr list on my phone where I save books I’m interested in. I’m on a mild book ban for the year (there are exceptions), but that dopamine hit of buying a book is crazy…I now consider my purchases more. I’m both happy and sad about it lol Thanks for sharing!
First of all, you look so radiant in this video. I’m loving the Pinterest series you are doing for the short content form. And I’m just excited to see you in the hosting content! I would love to see these updates monthly, but I think quarterly would work best. Lastly, I hope we still get to see your vlogs here and there though 🥰 oh and hell yes on the book channel 🎉
This has been challenging me on what I’m spending and impulsively buying 😅 I am thinking abt your videos every time I’m opening a tab to search for something lol 😂
I appreciate the update!! I also decided to only join in on the low buy and only buy when we need and use what we have. I have gone out shopping far less than I expected. Once I got to the parking lot of a store and was like "do i really need to be here" and backed up and left. Never went in.
Sarah you can pause your BOTM membership and still use referral credits! I had accumulated a bunch of referral credits so I paused my membership for 3 months (you can do it on the app) and keep using the credits. I’ve done this a couple times but will pause 3 months then let them bill me once then pause again. You can pause as long as u want but 3 month intervals!
I hated the 4 hour work week! The gist: outsource everything so you don’t have to. I often go to stores, walk around and leave. We are not obligated to buy, especially big companies! If it’s a small business I feel more guilty lol.
Love this content so far!! I’d love to see an estimate of money not spent. Like keep a record the total of item you normally would have bought but you said no too. I’m sure you could come up with a better way lol. That would be an awesome addition to the year end!
I go to 2nd hand book stores to get my fix, and if they don´t have anything I want, that is actually a win, I scratched the browsing itch and did not spend money. Also, completely understand that entrepeneurs need to spend money to make money.
This had a ton of great information. I am trying to be more budget conscious this year but don't feel I started out great. I think giving myself an allowance is a great idea. I also decided to make a list of the books I want to get from Barnes and noble this year and let myself get them at the end of the year for a really good endorphin rush. That is the only way I was able to walk out of that store empty handed. 😂 otherwise my kindle subscription is gonna be my best friend. I made a small exception for thrift books because they were mostly educational
I also say monthly updates! You may think it’s repetitive but I’ve found that life throws you something every month…even if you think it’s going to just be “regular” something will come up. It also shows consistency and we can follow along your journey 🙂
I think your hand tingling/numbness is something I too am experiencing out of nowhere but I found out it was brought on by my ozempic shots. I know you used to be on shots too and just wanted to share my experience. I was on them just for a few months and have stopped. Doing other things to take care myself and it’s slowly getting better. Hope you feel better soon, I know it’s annoying af!
Have you ever been to Half Price Books? Its a used book store and not only do you save money but its less wasteful. Oh , you can even check online if a store has a particular book that you are looking for. They also sell used CD's, vinyl albums, comics books, and Funko Pops. Lots of fun to see what hidden treasures you will find! Love your videos!
We are definitely doing a low spend year too! And are doing 0 Door Dash etc the amount I have saved after 1 month was shocking. So much wasted money for what?? I’m excited to watch your journey this year
I remember my mom always saying tu no sabes por que no es tu dinero & GIRRRRL i grew up and I was like you right even the way I cared for my stuff I personally had to buy 😂 so teaching early is so awesome I wish they did more ❤
Thank you for sharing the update and being so transparent about your spending. The first month of my low buy year didn't go as I had hoped. I didn't buy much for myself, but I did have a lot of unexpected purchases, annual subscriptions, stocked up on some things, and random other purchases that really added up. I ended up spending double what I'd spent in December (I also do my Christmas shopping in November though!). For this month, I'm going to try harder to reign it in and I'm going to log every purchase I make (other than groceries and recurring bills) into a spreadsheet so I have to really hold myself accountable with what is being spent and make sure I see the total going up each time I make a purchase.
I'm trying to do this too. I can say that my budget hits were business related so I was able to separate that from my household budget which eased a bit of the mental pain
I’d say if the savings/spending are similar to the previous month skip it but if there’s a noticeable enough increase/decrease do an update that month otherwise I think quarterly is a good time frame when each month looks the same as the last
I also wanted to do a no buy/low buy this year, and I’ve been doing well with it, but it’s hard especially with new products being advertised on TikTok because I love trying new makeup/skin care products 😭😂 And it’s not just advertising them, they’re on sale too
I attempted and failed. I guess I should have just given myself a budget or made rules like you did but I just said nothing more than food or going out experiences were allowed. I ended up buying cat toys, 2 Sorel “sale” boots I didn’t need, and now endlessly looking for clothes for Vday and for St Patty’s Day dyeing of the Chicago River and parade. Like I need an outfit for that 😅. It’s hard to break bad habits. Good for you on your success! You are a great role model.
Hi Sarah! Would you be willing to share some stats like percentage differences in your spending now as compared to the previous month? Or maybe share a percentage of each budget category of what you actually spent for that month? I know everyone’s income is different but percentages would be a cool measurable to share if you were interested exploring that avenue
Yes that’s actually such a good idea and I wish I had included it in this video bc I’m realizing it looks like I still spent an insane amount even though I spent 77% less than last month
I don't usually watch short form stuff but I have been loving your pinterest videos! I even recreated the skirt, button down, and sweater outfit with stuff I already have for my bday!
I am LOVING the cutesy editing. This is such a fun series, and I am loving it, getting excited about allowance and shit. AND ALSO- omg two box dyes back to back?!? Sarah Rae. You’ve got the brains to know how that goes!!! 😂😂
I have been slowly making changes in my budget. With asking questions like do I really need this, am I going to use this more then once, is it going to bring joy to me or the family. Or am I just getting it cause everyone else has it?
Thank you for going in depth about this. The struggles, the positives, etc. As someone who's going through the same thing, making NOWHERE near the money you do lol, it's very inspiring.
You used to be able to skip months on BOM and they wouldn’t charge you. I eventually canceled it because I wasn’t interested in most of their offerings.
Also I really respect how transparent you are on your channel & great job with being financially mindful, it's been inspiring me & my family to do the same.
Sarah, did you know that AUDIBLE is *FREE* here in Canada if you are a Prime member? I say this because surely if it's free here in Canada then it would also be free in America. Check it out... I would love to see you doing some content where you are going into thrift stores to shop for clothing. That could turn into a sponsorship from Thred Up etc... Whatever you do, I love watching you.
First of all this video made me realize that now that you are posting less, it's making me actually want to comment\interact more. I love the reuse of outfits. Yes do the monthly update. Here for the hosting videos. I'm on a no buy because of slow work but we're getting through.
You’d be shocked to find out those subscriptions are AFTER cutting out most of the ones we don’t use/want. Don’t forget a lot of them are business expenses & some are just enrichments into my kids lives (private lessons, musical instruments, ortho etc)
@ yes the lessons for the kids are a must I love that you do that for them I also love how you have them set up in a financial mindset I know that’ll help them a lot in the future to come ! Oo which ones did you end up cutting originally ?
I enjoyed this video! It's cool to know stats like how much people bought in conjunction with your code, or whatever. That kind of thing is fascinating to me-- because the average person has no idea how content creators make their money. We know you get brand deals, etc. but not things like commissions. Thanks for sharing with us!
Your grocery bill and eating out 😢 I have never been a family of 5 only 3, my groceries have only ever gotten up to maybe $600 i am also mainly an at home cooker. We only eat out on birthdays, holidays and most weekends cause thats my only break from cooking. But our take out is maybe $175 if that. I am also trying to not buy though and i have cancelled some subscriptions. I only have netflix and peacock i cancelled everything else. I dont even have cable just internet, which eww thats also more expensive than it should be, rip-offs. Lol I am starting to not spend as much cause my kiddo has moved out so its just hubby and i.
The B&N audio book subscription - works just like audible essentially - counts towards their rewards/stamp, so you could accrue through that subscription vs. audible.
This is so motivating. I’d love an update monthly to keep me on track too but my favorite part was showing the challenges or times when you wanted to but resisted. Extra motivating haha.
dawg. I didn't put the -$12 on the screen. BUT I did add it in to my total lol so just ignore my editing. I was sleep deprived 😂

I’d like to see how you budget for business expenses and how you decide what to spend on. Not too many details though. The IRS be watching.
lol girl i am literally on a first name basis with my agent 😅😂 this isn’t my actual business accounting system so we’re good 👌🏼
Great update! Yes, I’m sure many of us can relate to the urge to buy the “cutesie” stuff. ✨
I was just thinking we need to touch bases. And viola you have uploaded an update. Thanks Sarah!
I’m doing a low-buy. We had to move like 6 times in 2023 so we are trying to actually decorate since this will finally be home for a while. I have to VET what is being purchased, trying to purchase what we can second hand, and not buying something because it’s cute. It HAS to be functional

Love these videos keep us updated! Honestly just love you sitting down and talking to us
This has been challenging me on what I’m spending and impulsively buying 😅 I am thinking abt your videos every time I’m opening a tab to search for something lol 😂
Awesome video! I’ll watch anything you post, sooo thanks for stretching yourself out, you WILL reach your Goal! I’m here for it!
I appreciate the update!! I also decided to only join in on the low buy and only buy when we need and use what we have. I have gone out shopping far less than I expected. Once I got to the parking lot of a store and was like "do i really need to be here" and backed up and left. Never went in.
Loving this new content and shop your own closet content too! The hints at a book channel 👀 I would be all about that!
Yes to hosting content! I’m planning to have many parties this spring and summer. I’d love some tips! 😊
😂😂😂 Sarah needs to start a BA (books anonymous) for those of us who are book addicts
Yay! You uploaded !! ❤😊
Pseudo duo is so funny 😂 but definitely helpful!
The hosting content! The book channel! Yes yes yes all of it!
Also that lip color is everything
Thanks for updating us. So many people said they were doing this and never did it. I am going to try and be more mindful also.
Hell yeah! Glad you did a check in. Made me recommit to month 2. 😊
I love hearing about your business and personal finances! Love this video!
I hated the 4 hour work week! The gist: outsource everything so you don’t have to.
I often go to stores, walk around and leave. We are not obligated to buy, especially big companies! If it’s a small business I feel more guilty lol.
Oh ew I wouldn’t like that haha
As someone with hand arthritis, get the hand warmers and a massager! It helps a ton.
Love this content so far!! I’d love to see an estimate of money not spent. Like keep a record the total of item you normally would have bought but you said no too. I’m sure you could come up with a better way lol. That would be an awesome addition to the year end!
I’m doing a low buy year to help me pay off my hospital bills, so far the hardest part was not buying books
Books are hard to say no to because they’ve never felt like a waste of money to me, and they’re so fulfilling. Good luck on your low buy!
I go to 2nd hand book stores to get my fix, and if they don´t have anything I want, that is actually a win, I scratched the browsing itch and did not spend money.
Also, completely understand that entrepeneurs need to spend money to make money.
Happy Wednesday love it ❤❤❤
This year I'm trying to be more intentional with my spending and trying to be more creative with the things I already own.❤
Thank you for sharing your journey. I want to do a similar journey to improve my finances and find joy outside of materialistic items.

Well, I did a year budget plan. And so far it seems ok. I did spend on some cloths because I needed it. Gonna check this weekend how it’s going.
I also say monthly updates! You may think it’s repetitive but I’ve found that life throws you something every month…even if you think it’s going to just be “regular” something will come up. It also shows consistency and we can follow along your journey 🙂

💯 would love some environmental videos and the small changes people can do to rethink on spending money ! ❤ it’s sooo needed right now 🎉
Holy Trinity! Yessssss!!! Great explanation
We are definitely doing a low spend year too! And are doing 0 Door Dash etc the amount I have saved after 1 month was shocking. So much wasted money for what?? I’m excited to watch your journey this year
Yes I love this content!!!
To feed 5 people I pay 300$ a week

Also love it when you talk about the background of content creating and what goes into it (brands, spending, partnerships, etc) 😍
🎉🎉❤❤good job

I love ur hair like this!
Good job boo 👏🏽 proud of you.
Not sure if this is something you’re interested in but can you cut back on the monthly subscriptions/fees? It’s over $1k 😅
You’d be shocked to find out those subscriptions are AFTER cutting out most of the ones we don’t use/want. Don’t forget a lot of them are business expenses & some are just enrichments into my kids lives (private lessons, musical instruments, ortho etc)

This is so motivating. I’d love an update monthly to keep me on track too but my favorite part was showing the challenges or times when you wanted to but resisted. Extra motivating haha.
I love how you explain everything ❤
