- I review the 1991 GMC Syclone, a radical vehicle when it came out and still a still a very fun truck today! Its dark and subdued appearance combined with acceleration that beat the Ferraris of its day, it was the ultimate sleeper of the 90s. And this one's restoration story makes this Syclone one of the most special ones in existence. Huge thanks to Ian (@S10.GUY on Instagram) for letting me review his baby! What do you think of these?

This is my dream car right now. As an 18 year old car enthusiast, I want to be able to afford one so bad. Such a cool car. Honestly, if someone approached me with a Lambo-
I would take the Lambo, sell it and by three of these, sell one, and keep one to drive hard, and the other to keep low miles on in case it shoots up in value.
when I was young, the Cyclone and the Typhoon were my dream cars... and they still are.

The GMC Syclones, Typhoons and Ford SVO Mustangs are perfect examples of GM and Ford making unique builds and didn’t care about practicality or how much they needed to sell. It was about having fun in something that everyone didn’t own. I would definitely take any of the three I mentioned🏎💨💨💨 gnarly syclone!!
I hate to brag...but...I own Syclone #0271. 100% stock. All original...cladding still original matte finish, not painted. It's the absolute coolest truck I've ever owned. Fast & fun. In 1991 nothing could touch it 0-60 or even 1/8 mile. On a cool day it runs 13.50's in the 1/4 with ease.

I owned one of these back in the day. I worked night shift back then and just loved driving home in the wee hours of the morning with the roads all to myself. Thanks for bringing back such great memories.
Good group of friends to paint the the cladding. The connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons were the weak parts when over boosted any detonation meant problems with hypereutectic pistons as they were just too brittle. Forge JE or Diamond pistons and Oliver or Eagle connecting rods solved the problems.
Awesome video, brings back memories when I graduated HS in 96.. one buddy had a Typhoon and another had a Syclone. Not sure why GM stopped making them.
In 1991 the msrp for a Syclone was $26,000 usd. Thats almost $50k today. Not alot of people willing to spend that kind of money on a pick up truck that was pretty usless besides hauling ass.

100 percent agree still have my 92 Sonoma long bed 4.3 reg cab factory buckets 2 wd. Still miss my 79 Buick 3.8 turbo sport coupe. Both could embarrass so called fast cars of the time slobbered all over 87 grand national , 92 syclone just couldn't afford at time still regret

I kept telling matt to floor it lol. I made sure the truck was running 110% for the video.
Typhoon was 5.4 0-60
Syclone was 5 flat
Difference was weight.
I had a typhoon in 94.
It was trouble for a 20 yr old!
Even if the sport truck made a comeback, it would never be as small and as sleek as the Syclone. You could make a sport truck out of a Colorado, but it wouldn't be the same.
GMC made a limited number of new Syclones for 2019. They were extended cab, supercharged, not turbo (2.6L engine/auto)
@@michaelsullivan1703 gmc didnt actually make those, sve did. And the 40k price for the upgrades on top of price of the truck makes it a ripoff

Years ago my best friend worked a GMC/International dealership, don’t remember which it was The Cyclone or the Typhoon, its SUV cousin, but a young man came in to test drive one, for some reason no salesman went with him. Less than a quarter mile from the dealership he put it into a phone pole. Never drove one but people said they were absolutely crazy fast! I had a GMC S15 2.5 4 cylinder with manual 4 speed it was so slow even for back then.

I love my 1993 Typhoon. It's my daily driver.
From the factory the syclone would hit 60 in the mid 4 second range. With the wheels and tires plus the stance this truck looks great. Can definitely tell in the video the ride is a bit atiffer but well worth it for that stance 👍.

Typhoon owner number 2001 originally white grey now white/white (1992). Busted a mustang this morning. He was was surprised off the line didn’t expect a jimmy with a body kit to smoke him.

ian bokesch Your truck is remarkable, Ian! I really like the three gauges that you installed. Modifications are easier on older vehicles without airbags and antilock brakes. 😂 I always changed my headlights to get rid of the useless sealed beams.

That's a badass truck. I didn't know they had the Oh shit handle on the passenger side. S10s do not have those. Looked like that truck had an A/C delete on it.

I'm hoping the rumors are true of a new Silverado SS and Sierra Syclone. The AT4 and Z71 need more power.
More power isn't going to make AT4 and Z71 1500 a better off road track. ZR2 turns off traction control in some of the off road modes. With lack of power it's more playful then any larger truck. Raptor has a lot of electronics managing it. AT4 and Z71 have no electronic lockers. If more power was added there would have to more systems to manage output.
