Very good video. A friend and I owned a 310Q .. 90% the same. We were able to save some money on the annual by doing some of the stuff ourselves such as pulling all the inspection plates and the interior. A good shop will encourage that as it makes you much more familiar with the inner workings of your plane.

Great content. Just so you know, Pilot owner is ultimately responsible for "grounding" the airplane. Owner can request a log book ent. that releases the aircraft as "Annual inspection complete and a list of discrepancies has been provided to the owner". So, you (owner) are not at the mercy of the maintenance personal, you (owner) are always the final call, legally and otherwise. Very good representation of the process. We (A&P/I.A.s) are in the business of safety and Airworthiness, it is all part of the deal. Aircraft ownership is not for the "faint of heart OR thin of wallet."
Thanks Airmotive Welding. Although I wasn't completely clear on those facts - I am also of the mindset that I want it right. So I was happy to have them all fixed. I wasn't happy to pay for it all but as you said - that comes along with it. Best way to have a small fortune with airplanes is to start with a large fortune before you own one.

@@TheFirePilot Ouch!! I’m starting to look around for some twin pistons and the 310 is on the top of my list. Just really trying to grasp a feel on what to expect in ownership cost and annuals. A 30K annual, granted you had a lot of additional work done is not for the faint of heart 😬.
@@sleektruck22 The key is getting a good pre-buy. I had to nearly overhaul a prop replace the flat motor had some gear trunnion cracks as well as some other costly things that typically you may not have. The 310 is the best light twin available to General aviation.

It was nearly $30,000. The previous owner didn't maintain it as well as they should and I didn't do as good of a pre-buy as I should. So all of it fell on me!
John... This annual was the first REAL annual that this plane has had done in more than 5 years. Plus - I did not do a very thorough pre-buy. The annual was nearly $30,000 and took about 5 weeks. Thanks for following along.

I live on the other side, where the owner would place the plane in our hands to do a real Annual and would call half way through it demanding the plane be ready in 3 days for a flight that was a must do! That plane never came back through our doors again! Our choice! Your lucky you went to a very good shop! I have never heard one complaint about that company!

Thanks Rob - it took 5 weeks after drop off. I dropped off a day or so early. Once they got to work it was a steady pace of communication.

Our annual this past year was less then 30k. We had a lot to fix obviously. That’s not normal. I’d say maybe 6-8k per year for a really good annual.
