That interpreter is the fall guy.

Bookies typically don’t give $4.5 million lines of credit backed by a man’s word! 😂
💯
He just won the lottery.
He's not
So…bookies give a $4.5million lines of credit to interpreters that make$300-$500k a year? So he would be fine if it took the interpreter 10 years to pay it back?
I know right lolololol
An interpreter with access to someone who has hundreds of millions of dollars who is known for their humility and generosity. It’s obvious Ippei would turn to Ohtani to help him out. If I can see that, so can the bookie and that’s why he did it.
he's been with Ohtani over 10 years... 300k/year ... so it's not out of the question to think that he could be winning and losing throughout this time especially since per the original ESPN interview that he bet alot.. so using this bookie often, he could've gotten enough trust and won enough to be able to be trusted with 4.5M.. or enough to bet where he could lose 4.5M ... makes sense to me... it's not like he just bet 1 day that cost him 4.5M
This is bad bad
Let's just play Baseball ⚾️ the trolls are trying to make a big deal on some non ballplayer translalater placing sports bets, I do it with Draftkings almost everyday, who cares and let's play ball.

Firing the interpreter was Damage Control 🤔
How does this work? Just because Ippei is interpreter of Ohtani, the bookmaker let Ippei borrow $5M??? It more looks like Ohtani was betting and Ippei was the fall guy no?
it was snake shit.
@@ssjj005 how does it look like that? We don’t know the full story dork
@@ssjj005Exactly captain obvious... you just missed the part where Ippei's family gets about 50 million depending on what consequence he takes ugh
In my community we call that the Fall Guy. If I’m the bread winner and I get in trouble have to have a fall guy and I’ll take care of him later.
Bingo! Ippei's family just became generationally rich beyond their dreams ugh
Occam's Razor dictates that Ippei is the gambler. Betting on sports is NOT a Japanese cultural past-time whereas in the US, it is -- which Ippei happens to be raised in (USA). Ohtani has no lick of an idea about football, basketball, tennis, etc., and he doesn't care either. All he knows and cares about is baseball (MLB). So the only realistic avenue for him to bet on is baseball BUT that is colossally stupid because -- common sense also dictates -- you shouldn't bet on the games you are scheduled to play and you really shouldn't bet on any other games either because of a conflict of interest -- and, especially, insider knowledge -- will present itself sooner or later when you belong in the same league. It's common sense.
Shohei is a world class athlete with hundreds of millions in deferred money set aside for him. Sports gambling is beneath him -- no use (he's generationally wealthy) or time for it -- and is typically reserved for the (not so rich) general public -- which Ippei is essentially a part of. I struggle to think Ohtani can be that dense.
He’s not a fall guy or scapegoat - he was the one gambling lol.

Internet is a wild place. We have WAY more questions than answers at this point but it feels like too many people have already made a decision on Ohtani's guilt. Kinda feel like we should just wait and see what comes out before passing judgement.
I don't think Ohtani placed any bets but I also don't think the $ was stolen
Tell that to mlb and Trevor Bauer
You have to make me believe a bookie would give an interpreter a $4.5million line of credit before I become naive enough to believe he’s not guilty. It’s stated he made $300k-$500k a year…so if he paid every penny after taxes to pay back his debt, 15years or so? The bookie knew who he was dealing with…they aren’t very charitable…
Because nothing adds up, and MLB has already showed with the Bauer case that they will ban for less evidence without waiting on the investigation.
Now you know how Black people feel
Dan Patrick is right, the whole thing doesn't make sense.
Anyone outraged or even surprised by this should be choking on the irony of the media blatantly and shamelessly peddling gambling sites.
There are still rules within the legality of betting. Why is the story changing, then?
It's not just the media the sports themselves are also doing it. MLB and the NFL and probably the NBA all have a piece of the gambling pie.
Good lord you simpletons are hilarious. I would explain but you just wouldn’t understand.
If you steal 4.5m that’s a few years in prison. The interpreter never admitted to stealing. That’s Ohtanis law firm throwing interpreter under the bus.
If he is thrown under the bus and is arrested believe me we'll eventually find out what the full story is. He'll break once the feds interrogate him and bring up the potential jail time he'd potentially have. That's when we'll find out the real story of what happened.
he did not deny it when asked as well
As far as I know you cant make these kind transactions in the millions without the Bank going through confirmations, unless you have those funds in a unsecured account somewhere.......
Still find it kind of hard to believe that the guy who famously lived off 4k over the course of 2 years, gave his entire paycheck to his mom to manage, and gave up 200 mil to play in the us early would be addicted to gambling. Also this is the same guy who kept his girlfriend hidden until he married her. It seems kind of unlikely that the same guy would transfer money directly from his account with his name on the transfer while placing bets through a middleman. It's not rocket science to know that when placing illegal bets, you would transfer money from accounts that aren't directly connected to yourself and not put your name all over it.
We'll see where the investigations go.
This guy came from Japan to the USA, couldn’t speak the language, and was drafted by a big league, giant hype ball club as its superstar hero. The culture shock alone would disorient most people, that coupled with the media attention and money must have been overwhelming. He should have been educated by the ball club to the scams of modern confidence men and their tactics used to defraud. Ohtani was taken advantage of because the ball club didn’t foresee this obvious possibility.
Ohtani was not smart about it.He is directly involved. He is probably the one who wanted to place bets.
@@robertrowe5349 and you are basing this on what evidence? 🤡show public opinion at it's best. I'll wait for the official report from the FBI and MLB investigations before i give judgement, thanks.
That's the story you've been told. Who has verified any of that? He's so secretive, like we basically no nothing about him.
Your entire post was essentially assuming that you knew Ohtani's personality and character, and trying to draw firm conclusions from that. However, since you don't actually know him personally, your argumentation is weak.
Things you didn't take into account:
1. Huge gambling sub-culture in Japan.
2. Ohtani's dog is named Backdoor Cover.
3. Two Japanese guys, one with zero English skills, spending 7+ months in America every year. When baseball stuff isn't going on, what to do?
4. Dub tailing on 3, Ohtani is a huge sports junky and has connections with other athletes in other sports.
5. Angels were garbage for much of Ohtani's run. He's a uber competitive guy, perhaps he needed something on the side to compete in.
And the last thing to take into account is that MANY rich people gamble as a hobby, even if they don't really "care" about the money. Many of the greatest athletes of all times were known as having gambling as a major hobby. Michael Jordan springs to mind.
Is anyone else shocked there isn't any other athlete linked to this bookie
Oh there 100% are. Players, coaches, trainers, agents, EVERYBODY was going to this guy
They just haven't been caught... YET
There is a Brazilian soccer player involved
Other athletes HAVE been linked to this bookie, the information is coming from an FBI investigation. Yasiel Puig is also known to have placed bets with this bookie.
Time will tell on that.

Pete Rose is now kicking himself saying, "I should have had an interpreter as a fall guy." Of course, Ohtani didn't have any idea that he was missing $4.5 million. The changed stories here have real night-and-day differences between them.
Except Pete bet on games he played in, so it's nothing at all like this situation

I credit Rich Eisen and Dan Patrick for keeping a straight face and not simply pointing out it looks like the interpreter is the fall guy. It’s so obvious it’s almost hysterical 😂
Rich Eisen talked about this story? He actually took the NFL's balls out of his mouth long enough to talk about something else?

What’s evident from the, “no comment”, interview with the Dodgers manager is that the organization and Ohtani are getting their story together to avoid any culpability on Ohtani’s part in the illegal sports betting at the core of this story. I would bet that Ohtani remains in Korea with management fixers until they get a story together to shield their money maker from league sanctions.
sounds like ESPN is covering up also, otherwise they would release the interview.
Can this be true of espn
I have a question about online betting. I tried one because it was dam near free to bet at first, but once I lost, I quit. They didn't, though, keep sending emails to getbme to bet again, so are there any laws that can keep them from doing this to people who have a gambling problem
I've been following news about this scandal from both US medias and Japanese medias and when I was reading an article about this scandal on Yahoo Japan site this morning, I found an interesting article.
After the first game in South Korea, the Dodgers held an immediate closed-door meeting in the locker room. As you already know that Ippei Mizuhara addressed to the Dodgers players that he's a gambling addict. One of the players said, "what's wrong?"
That's when team owner, Mark Walter stepped in and said that Ippei got involved with illegal gambling. ESPN reporter Tisha Thompson said that though Ohtani isn't good at English , he seemed to understand what's going on.
And then team president Stan Kasten said that Ohtani paid for Ippei's gambling debt.
That's the moment when she said Ohtani's expression changed and said, " what's going on!?"
He couldn't ask Ippei about it so he asked another interpreter what was discussed in the meeting.
She got an impression that Ohtani didn't know about this massive transaction of his money...until that moment.
She already had a phone interview with Ippei before the first game and he told her that Ohtani had paid for his debt. So she called him and asked if he had lied to her. He said, yes. In her first interview with Ippei, she also asked him, "Have you ever taken Ohtani's money without his knowledge?" He didn't answer.
Most people here in the US think that here is no way that Ippei has access to Ohtani's bank account. But I disagree.
When Ohtani came to this country, he not only couldn't speak English, but also couldn't read English well at all. It's easy to imagine that Ippei helped Ohtani to open his online bank account, creating his username and password, stored that information somewhere both of them can have access to whenever they want to.
Ohtani trusted Ippei 100%. And more.
Yes and Joe Biden is president.
Pete Ross is loving every minute of this.
4.5 million in gambling debt? I wonder if the interpreter had to explain to Ohtani what "cement shoes" means in Japanese..

@@JH-bb8in You have no way of knowing that.
Can’t compare this with pete rose situation. As already stated, ohtani is not accused of betting on baseball. It is not illegal for players to bet on other sports. According to a Japanese TV program, Mr. Mizuhara was not only acting as an interpreter but also handling various tasks, such as contracts, sponsor selection, and even communication from Mr. Ohtani's family, in meticulous detail, almost like a secretary, to ensure Mr. Ohtani could focus solely on baseball. Speaking as someone who used to work as an executive secretary in a major corporation's executive , it doesn't surprise me at all that Mr. Mizuhara could manage Mr. Ohtani's affairs. Furthermore, since Mr. Ohtani was solely focused on baseball, it's likely that he struggled with tasks such as dealing with wires.
