This is absolutely my favorite bushcraft youtuber. Being able to enjoy my hobby by watching someone else experience it when I’m unable to actually venture out and do it myself because life gets in the way, it’s relaxing 😌
Im the exact same!! I have areas where i could possibly do a similar type of thing but i just havent got the time to actually go out and do it! Life ey! Our day will come eventually😅
i've watched a ton of bush-craft videos and this channel who i only discovered tonight has fast-fowarded to one of my favourites. i love these videos because they bring me a sense of peace and at one with nature, i think the silence also adds to that and the rustic precision the guy in this shows, he's so meticulous about everything and it's very satisfying.
Much respect to you guys for living your dream. I’m 62 and my 17 yr old son live full time in an 95 class A RV. Doing what you want to do!!!! That’s living.
Great job, quite a girl & dog in that order! I realize your young and this is your learning, it takes 3-4Xs to master. I would just like to pass on some TTPs, tips techniques procedures from and old time bushwacker 1. Make a strap/loop to carry many woods 2. Weave wood so points are under main supports, friction will fail all tarps! 3. Bbark can pealed into many layers 4. Go to $store by Aluminum foil for fire reflector, saves much wood and work 5. Lastly little known put hot rocks in metal pale and cover, bring into sleep area will give off heat for some time, a bed sheet liner, on high will collect any mositure, prevents rain inside then air out in the day Again I truly enjoyed, and am proud of you for both doing and sharing, many have no idea the commitment and truly HARD work! Thanks from an old guy in N-MN
Watching you folks do all the hard work needed to build such a functional long term shelter has given me a new appreciation for the amount of wood processing that's required. I especially like your use of birch bark for interior paneling material. Outstanding over all, you make a good team and are fortunate to have one another to share your passion for the outdoors with.
I extremely under estimated just how much there would be. I knew how much would I'd need roughly but to get each log into a state where I liked it was a pain :) Thank you though!
Really cool to see couples out there doing things together. Definitely you could see she was maybe bored or something. But never complained kept going and you could see she enjoyed it more and more as it went. Awesome guys!!
I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I come from a video background and I know how much work setting up each shot, then editing it together. Excellent job!! Hope it withstands the winter.
I'm happy you did! It can be a pain in the ass sometimes bringing the camera along, especially in the video where we hiked a mountain in the Rockies. Thanks though! It withstanded it quite well. It was holding up around 500lbs of snow (our guess) at one point :)

@@wituikbws I appreciate the work & skill in your videos, as I have also built, with help, shelters in the Canadian woods but without the extra work of filming. In my experience the blue tarps that you are using last one winter, maybe 1 1/2 years exposed to the elements. They will start to leak and shred even before this if left in the sun, wind, etc. I still have not found a cheap, waterproof & windproof cover for cabin roofs, "A" frame shelters or lean-to's.
Love the audio on this. The effort you've made making sure your gear is good means that when you are around the campfire it feels like i'm actually there listening to the crackles.
Believe it or not the audio is actually an internal mic on the camera I use. I'm surprised how many comments I'm getting about it! Nikon should be proud aha
Yes, it creates ambiance. Very soothing and peaceful. Always loved staring into the fire and letting my thoughts wonder. The audio here sets me right beside the burning logs.
Only 9 minutes into this and SO glad to finally see someone debarking all the trees they build with so the structures are actually long term. Versus leaving the bark on and letting the wood rot eventually. Back to the regularly scheduled program.........................
Lots to love about this! Great build, love the precision and especially the birch bark walls. That's gotta be the biggest fire reflector I've ever seen! Oh and I love the silent treatment, always have.
Thank you, the birch bark walls were one of the harder things to do on the shelter, but worked out pretty good. The fire reflector ahah yeah it's pretty big :)
Lovely to watch and listen to, it brought back many wonderful memories for me of living in BC, where I built a wood cabin in the middle of nowhere and was very hands on. Peeling bark, hauling water from the creek up the mountain, building forms in the snowstorm, painting tar, staining boards, hammering, all done with The sounds as accompaniment and often insect bites and the threat of bears and surrounded by coyotes. Sure wish I'd thought to film it but we just didn't do that then. Anyway, good luck to you both, enjoy these wonderful times together. X
I'm glad you like it: although, I wish I was able to talk well filming and have a more V-log style similar to The Wooded Beardsmen. It'd be a lot easier to do work and learn since I'm not 70% filming then 30% actually working, but gotta do what ya gotta do I guess aha
I hear ya Nicholas... for this video it really worked, I watched the whole thing! Narration and such can be applied anytime. It was insightful, relaxing and entertaining as is. Good stuff!
Never tried this, just an idea I had watching you hang the tarps. Lay the 2 tarps on the ground with top edges overlapping. Roll them together around a ridge pole. Then hang the ridge pole from tripod to tripod and the tarps would hand down. Basically the top ridge would be rolled together around a pole. Seems it would work well to keep water and wind out. Hope that made sense. Also you guys did great, enjoyed watching this. I'm not one of those people who's saying what I would have done different or what yall should have done different. There's more than one way to do things. I've never done anything like this so I definitely cant put in my 2 cents. I plan on doing this this fall in the mountains. Watching videos for ideas
Very nice 'silent documentary'. This format is very relaxing. There is something very pleasant about watching people use their skills to build something from nature.
You guys did awesomely, and thank you for making it! FYI being retired Military and playing with 550 cord forever. To really tighten it down create a loop at one end and feed line through. Then reverse tighten the line like a slip knot.
This is the one I was looking for! The main distinct feature from everyone else......silence! which is what the intention of an outdoor camping is. At least the human loud noises should not be there. Thank you sooooooooooooo much for providing us these! Bless you. Searched so much! finally got it. Tks!
I am so jealous of you Nicholas, not because Marie is a cutie but because she is willing to go out into the woods with you. My wife would never be caught without a proper bathroom so even a campsite with a port-o-potty is a no go. RV glamping is as close to the wilderness as she is willing to go hahaha
Well I am a man and I love nature aswell, but having ocd limits me from going to nature. I need a bathroom, wirh hot water and lots is soap lol. But we are lucky to sit back and feel like we are with Nick and Marie. Great job guys
Don’t understand why people can’t just watch and enjoy someone’s else’s methods rather then critiquing every move. I don’t think this couple was asking how someone else might approach the task. Good vid!
I'm not really sure. There are a lot of "experts" out there. I was asking for feedback though as I know I'm not an expert. Even just looking back on this video a year later, I genuinely cringe at some of the things I do hahah. They're all things I've learnt from thankfully
Thanks! It really is out there, there's this one mountain I've been dying to get on film, but you can't see it from the camp sadly. I'll sure try though. You keep them up to!
Nicholas, great compilation for sure. I had watched most of your build but missed out on some from November on, I have to say that is one kick a$$ fire reflector, how does it work ? Pretty breezy it seems, I like all the cedar you have to work with, for me loads of spruce and balsam.....very nice shelter guys and hope you can spend as much time as possible out there. Cheers from Thunder Bay,Ontario....Fred , OntarioNorthwest Bushcrafter and Outdoors
Hey Nicholas, yes the quality of your videos is amazing. Very easy to watch, and I appreciate the amount of work that goes into this. I know I like it for sure!
Thank you :). My idea for the fire reflector was pretty much just a normal one but with 2 extra walls to help keep out wind and reflect a bit more heat back towards the fire and us. It's nothing too special! The cedar is pretty nice, the stream beside us had a absolute ton of dead trees which really helped out. Didn't have to go far for wood! Thanks for the comment!
Random click. I was just going to watch 5 or 10 minutes before bed. Now it is after midnight and my eyes are closing on their own. This is a very therapeutic video. I am enjoying watching you what I would enjoy doing if I still had the chance. Cool video. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing this video. You are extremely talented and patient. I really enjoy seeing young people who can create and come up with great idea's. Awesome!
most people don't have time/energy/resources/ solid partnership to do something like this forget even the finances or skills......fun to live through with you
I love the no talking. People talk too much on these survival videos..especially about equipment. It reflects the PEACE you get in the woods! Thank you for doing this! ...my retirement plan...cause things are going south (as the saying goes) and the tide is shifting all around us. :)
i have not read all the comments but im sure you to will have them that will say you should have done this or that tell you the do's and donts... your out there doing it ... so kewl.. wish i could too... nice job..
Top class video and with easy to follow instructions one would have very little problem erecting such a structure and given the fact i am a country boy living in a capital city concrete jungle it makes me long for the smell of fresh air, wide open spaces and the freedom of the wilderness, so well done to both of you for the entertainment value and the information and ain't the Canadian wilderness beautiful in the winter.
47:34 my favorite part - I just came back from a snow trip up in the Mountains of Victoria, Australia and used to live nearby them. I really like your camp and was great to see that it was able to handle the snow. The white scene is awesome. Well done and I like your documentary. Can see that you both love the bush as well...cheers.
take some advice my friend wear gloves at all times cause your not near a doctor to get treated for cuts and the bark scraper is the #1 tool that will cut you bad every time if you don't loose a finger doing that , and if you get cut bad, apply pressure to the wound for 15 min or longer, put some moss on the cut, 2nd find some pine sap and coat the cut real good this will stop the bleeding and 3rd keep it clean and dry at all cost till you can get to a doctor , if you plan to live out there keep some moss and pine sap handy you can put pine in a jar and moss just add water to the moss to keep wet, and cut some fire wood for the winter and a shelter lol its winter come and also keep a eye on the wolfs .
This is such a beatiful documentary. You can be proud of your great work. Also you are a very cute couple. You can be happy, that you found eachothers. THX
Love the shelter! I read most of the comments and quite a few were swearing for no reason and ignorant.....You did a wonderful job... even in the snow. A GREAT FireReflector and I loved the silver-birch walls. I bet scraping all those limbs for the frame was quite annoying. I use tarp for my shelter(s) but had made a small semi-permenant shelter a few years ago and it still stands! haha,,,, I am a woodsman in North England and travel to Scotland to bushmaster various times of the year if possible. I subscribed and going to watch a few more of your videos soon, Keep it up! I would of cut the front limb out (the bench/seat/bed in the open area of the shelter) and used the space underneath for firewood.
Thanks! People are strange on the internet, I try to keep my channel clean from people like that but it gets hard sometimes. I actually enjoy peeling logs, I use to do it for work a few times and it is kind of therapeutic, like splitting wood. North England! That is far away from here. Thanks for subscribing! I'll try to keep it up. Good idea on the bench by the way, I'll do that :)
2,900 dislikes WISHING they were you 2 😆 AWESOME site, excellent work, what a team. Kudos. Thanx for sharing it all with us. ( anni4x4 also has some reeeeally cool tools. I like her "wooden pegged wine-cork remover" style hand drill. To hold frames together with wooden plugs)
The design of your shelter is well thought and you made a terrific job. I wish you good times in the forest. I'm from Québec province and have built a small shelter too. Nice to see Canadian bushcrafters on YT!
Yes! Without positive relationship building this ain't gonna work. If both of you weren't on the same page and in tune with each other one or the other would have never stepped foot into the woods again after the first trip. Couldn't help but note a bit of division in the labor. Seems sexist to me. ;)
@@HappyBuddhaBoyd I would agree to disagree with you sir. Communication is very important.. but the couple that can abide in silence without feeling separate or ignored. To just "be" in the others presence. Or even be able to do creative or camp maintenance tasks without talking ... like couple ESP. I value THAT.
Wow really enjoyed the long term camping shelter build. Lots of work. Enjoyed watching the process. Thanks for sharing😊. Just found this on UA-cam. Never can tell what you'll find.😊
You can tell she loves you nic and just loves being there and spending time wit you. Not very often are we paired up anymore with our life mate. May god always be with you two and bless and look after you both. Hang on to her or someone will steal her away. Not gay at all but have to give you yours too , you seem to be a great fella so same for her hang on to him. Peace out.
Oh, almost 4got, use large-headed roofing\shingle nails. they don't tear through as easy in windy weather... Oh & Line The Inside With Bubble foil as Ur putting up the blue tarp. It will keep a lot of the cold out & heat in (I'm talking bathing suit in the middle of Jan, warm) & reflect the fire heat into the tent if U put some on the firewall backstop. And Add a 4th tarp that U can put up or down over the open section, 4 when Ur away.
Thank you for the heart brother Serb. Translation into Serbian language: Nikola Vitić - Hvala ti za srce brate Srbine. Translation from Serbian latin alphabet on to natural alphabet: Никола Витић - Хвала ти за срце брате Србине. (In Sloven - Serbian - Vinca language, the heart in the house is the fireplace (hearth), that is like the soul in the body). However, we speak the same language. I wish you every good :)
Very nice job, no awesome job, thanks for sharing. It is good to witness this generation getting out into the wilderness and building camps and other retreats. March on.........
I like what you do and what I like that you are not alone like me, so my friend, this girl is rare for you to meet like her in all peoples. I am an Arab young man. I wish you success and the best. Thank you.
What a fantastic build!! To really get back to how it was done 2-300 years ago!! Although ironically on camera to show the world lol!! And to have found a partner that is willing to join you on this, is amazing...but I do hope you actually spoke to each other when the camera wasnt rolling haha!! Superb job, I hope to visit Canada one day......it is certainly on my bucket list!!
Thank you!! It was heavily based off of old canvas tent designs aha. Marie's great to be out there with, she keeps me sane :) and of course we spoke, we just keep the video quiet.
I like the 'one stop to shop' compendium of your shelter build. I have been watching some episodes but came in about mid-way. This is a great way to catch up with you and yours. My next thought was 'what an amazing year 2017 was for you and Marie: you accomplished so much on the shelter build...and you worked so well together...and you RECORDED so many informative images. What a series this has been!
That was great. Really enjoyed watching it. Nature and bushcraft is so satisfying especially seeing you two work together so well. Love the sound of tools being used on wood in the wilderness. 👍🏕🇦🇺
I enjoyed it . I do think you need to pack a Froe in your equipment though . That bed would be much more comfortable if the logs were split and flat side turned up. A few carving chisels and a auger drill would make some of the work easier as well.
@@wituikbws AUGER: Bushcraft Scotch eye 0.5" × 4" auger bit with welded 1" pipe on top for 9" hickory handle insertion. Larger handle from tree limb for leverage. Light weight, quick access, creates holes for wood pegs from small tree limbs. Interesting concept.
Fantastic job. Its an excellent video descibes everything briefly and clearly. Once I saw the total duration of the video in the bigning of the video, I was thinking to fast forward but once started, I lost myself in it in such a way that I even didnt realise that how time passed. I was feeling myself with them in jungle, cutting, woodcrafting and making shelter. Weldone and great job. Keep it up both of you.
Make sure to check out my other videos! They're now filmed in the remote, unforgiving, and vast Chilcotin region of British Columbia, feature tons of new content; hunting and fishing adventures, new bushcraft building series, remote camping trips, exploration of abandoned homesteads, and more - some even look to recreate the challenge of using fully pioneer gear, and all of it is filmed and edited in a much more interesting, direct, and cinematic way using new cameras, mics, and techniques. I think a folding Corona Saw or Silky saw might work better than that one you used....seemed like that thing was kinda giving you a hard time and a workout. I bought a a small Corona Saw for $15 and I'm officially a fan of those things , its effortless I've never had such a fun time sawing 😃 I actually look forward to sawing stuff now LOL.
It's been bowing pretty bad lately. Haven't been able to go clear it off for a months so there's a pretty good chance it collapsed. Not too big of a deal, was going to redo the whole roof in spring :)
b57ecv my thoughts as well. Although the builder claims the camp is warm, I find this very hard to believe. Thin plastic sheet, no insulation. Wouldn't be my idea of a working mid winter ca,p experience
Hints & Tips: Lean a bunch of sticks on Ur sides & back, fire stopper walls. Put Ur firewood under the A-frame & U will always have dry firewood, at hand. Regardless of the weather ;-)
ah this i got to love! I love the fact that it is so quiet and that you guys are going about your project. I work in the same way. People yammering constantly is a big distraction for me. Fantastic job you two. Really enjoyed watching this build immensely.

Good job. Reminds me of the improvised shelters us in the Canadian Infantry use to make in the Rockies, when we exercised there.

I was just going to watch 5 or 10 minutes before bed.
Now it is after midnight and my eyes are closing on their own.
This is a very therapeutic video.
I am enjoying watching you what I would enjoy doing if I still had the chance.
Cool video.
Thanks.
I'm glad it helped you sleep!
Nice job and nice video. Thanks for sharing. I consider you very lucky to have a woman such as Marie with you.
Thank you! I'm lucky :)
This is so amazing! I wish someday I could find someone with me to build stuff like this, but for now, im just happy to be alone with my dogs
Thanks! Being alone is fine, but it's always better with someone else I find :)
Me too girl .. in New York I dont meet alot of guys who are into this kind of stuff...sigh
Thank you for sharing this video. You are extremely talented and patient. I really enjoy seeing young people who can create and come up with great idea's. Awesome!
No problem; although, I'm neither of those things haha. I just do what I think works
I actually like this kind of vlogging, more doing, bushcrafting, camping, cooking less talking👌🏼
most people don't have time/energy/resources/ solid partnership to do something like this forget even the finances or skills......fun to live through with you
It sure is a pain. I'm very fortunate aside from the finances D:
I love the no talking. People talk too much on these survival videos..especially about equipment. It reflects the PEACE you get in the woods! Thank you for doing this! ...my retirement plan...cause things are going south (as the saying goes) and the tide is shifting all around us. :)
I love it as well :) Sounds like a good plan
just one of the many things I like about your videos is the sound. Makes me feel I'm there too which is great. And not much talking.
That's the goal! I try to keep talking to an absolute minimum and just let the video and nature do the talking for us
i have not read all the comments but im sure you to will have them that will say you should have done this or that tell you the do's and donts... your out there doing it ... so kewl.. wish i could too... nice job..
No just move over I'll do it myself.lol
Winter was my favourite part as well, I find it's solitude relaxing, even when I was with Marie haha. Thank you though!

take some advice my friend wear gloves at all times cause your not near a doctor to get treated for cuts and the bark scraper is the #1 tool that will cut you bad every time if you don't loose a finger doing that , and if you get cut bad, apply pressure to the wound for 15 min or longer, put some moss on the cut, 2nd find some pine sap and coat the cut real good this will stop the bleeding and 3rd keep it clean and dry at all cost till you can get to a doctor , if you plan to live out there keep some moss and pine sap handy you can put pine in a jar and moss just add water to the moss to keep wet, and cut some fire wood for the winter and a shelter lol its winter come and also keep a eye on the wolfs .
Truly enjoyed this thanks. And kept some of your great ideas.
this guy got his girlfriend to build a fort in the woods without talking!!!!!!
ravensflies my dawg you sound parched
Yeah you should take their advice and chill...
Ridiculous.

I'd love to have a girlfriend/ wife who was into this
Enjoyed every minute of your wonderful adventure. You both are so skillful. Thanks for all of your hard work.
I'm happy to hear! We have a lot to learn yet but we're trying.
This video dropped into my lap! I’m so thankful it did!!!! You are incredibly resilient young people!
I'm happy you enjoyed!
This is such a beatiful documentary. You can be proud of your great work.
Also you are a very cute couple. You can be happy, that you found eachothers.
THX
Thank you for the nice comment! :)

Behind every good man is a good woman. You work well together. Outstanding Job. I too got in a little late but I loved it all. Congratulations.
Absolutely. I couldn't have done it without her
Love the shelter!
What a great shelter! You guys put a lot of hard work into it fo sho. Tx for bringing us a long. This is every kids dream fort!
Thanks!
Really enjoyed watching this.
But the best part for me was the NO TALKING.
New subscriber here.🇦🇺
I agree! Talking isn't needed for these kinds of videos. Thanks for subscribing!
The design of your shelter is well thought and you made a terrific job. I wish you good times in the forest. I'm from Québec province and have built a small shelter too. Nice to see Canadian bushcrafters on YT!
Thank you, we put a lot of work into planning it. Check out Bushcraft Heroes! They're from Alberta!

WOW!! Amazing video, awesome shelter!! Thanks for sharing it!!
Thanks!
This is great stuff guys. Thanks for all the effort you two put into this for us. Liked and subbed.

Should be re-titled "Advanced Relationship Building".
Ahhahah
Yes! Without positive relationship building this ain't gonna work. If both of you weren't on the same page and in tune with each other one or the other would have never stepped foot into the woods again after the first trip. Couldn't help but note a bit of division in the labor. Seems sexist to me. ;)
You seem fascist to me. Go eat a steak and drive hot rod why don't ya?
I disagree 100%, I have been happily married 23 years.....and communication is EVERYTHING.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the channel :)
Its great to see a woman learning survival skills in the Wilderness.
It sure is, she loves it too aha
You two make a good team during work on the camp. Great video and no talking.
Thanks!
sometimes we just have to do something like this for the good of our soul
Exactly
Awsome job you 2. You can really tell you guys enjoyed what yoi created because it turned out so nice.
Thanks! We really did for the most part, some of it was stressful but that's alright
AOK Foraging and Adventures that's so true of these2, totally awesome
This was strangely calming to watch. I watched about 15 minutes of it at a time at the end of the day. Thank you for doing this.
I'm happy you found it relaxing :)
hey - sure enjoy your program. especially without background racket (music). i like hearing the natural sounds. hang in there. thanks.
I'm glad to hear! I don't like the music as fun as it is to edit in, so I keep it to a minimum

Thanks!

I like what you do and what I like that you are not alone like me, so my friend, this girl is rare for you to meet like her in all peoples. I am an Arab young man. I wish you success and the best. Thank you.
Just amazing watching you two in sinchronicity building your dream...

Glad to hear! It took AGES to edit together. I'm glad you're caught up!
Nice and relaxing video.
Thanks!
@@wituikbws Forgot to sub but have now, lol.
That was great. Really enjoyed watching it. Nature and bushcraft is so satisfying especially seeing you two work together so well. Love the sound of tools being used on wood in the wilderness. 👍🏕🇦🇺
I'm glad you enjoyed!
I enjoyed it . I do think you need to pack a Froe in your equipment though . That bed would be much more comfortable if the logs were split and flat side turned up. A few carving chisels and a auger drill would make some of the work easier as well.
Great ideas! I'll be doing that on the next build for sure

AUGER:
Bushcraft Scotch eye
0.5" × 4" auger bit with welded 1" pipe on top for 9" hickory handle insertion.
Larger handle from tree limb for leverage.
Light weight, quick access, creates holes for wood pegs from small tree limbs.
Interesting concept.
Well done 👍🏻 Ontario 🇨🇦
Well done guys.I have to say Marie is a beauty.
Thank you. She sure is :)
I'm glad you enjoyed :)
A very good job thank you bouth
Thanks!
that snowman is a work of art. i really gotta step up my game. its on bruh
Definitely worth a watch if you enjoyed this old video!

Get yourself a Silky saw you wont regret it.
@@chrisw5742 :D
I think a folding Corona Saw or Silky saw might work better than that one you used....seemed like that thing was kinda giving you a hard time and a workout. I bought a a small Corona Saw for $15 and I'm officially a fan of those things , its effortless I've never had such a fun time sawing 😃 I actually look forward to sawing stuff now LOL.
@@Airik1111bibles I agree. I have 2 Corona saws and a Silky pole saw. They do make sawing fun.
Hit "Full Screen" and enjoy. You don't even have to watch it, just listening to all the sounds is therapeutic.
I've never actually done that, I'll try it out
Thank you from Australia .I really found your channel very soothing and relaxing.I learnt something.I would really like to imergrate to Canada.❤️❤️🙏🙏👍
SEE. 🤗UNDERGROUND HOUSE , BAMBOO HOUSES 🏠. THE BEST ✝️
If the snow isn't going to bring the roof down leave it on there, it act's as good insulation .
Mike Friend It is super warm only when the fire is lit, aside from that it is obviously cold :)
Sometimes i feel like jst leaving the city , & living in the wilderness .
I believe that's the way we were meant to live, being one with nature.
Love this video, thanks for sharing this building technique. Very good very functional and practical.
That was awesome 👏 great job!!
Big bless from Sweden 🇸🇪 I
Thank you!!
I'm glad you enjoyed! I think you'll like my more recent videos. They're a lot better and have expanded on the same no-talking concept. Thanks for watching! :) Nice channel banner by the way 👊👊
