thank you for the natural sound, for not slathering your video with strumming guitars, thank you for not jabbering on about your tools, skills, trips....I subbed for all these reasons. I am enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods. looking forward to more visits to your superb shelter.
Really! I had a stroke about 5 months ago, so I can't talk worth a darn. I should make some natural sound videos lol! Just messing with ya. I enjoyed it also.
When you cleaned the pot with sand/dirt, did you wash it with water or just wiped it with a cloth? I'm asking this because, on your 2nd day, the pot did not have any sand/dirt in it.
Great build. A helpful suggestion, grab another set of those size tarps. I would double up to get double air insulation. and for added water proofing. Thats a trick I learned here where I am in the Smoky Mountains because it rains a lot. Ive camped all over the Rockies too, you could benefit from this tip.
Again just started watching these vlogs and it’s very entertaining to watch you learning and adapting your new skill sets. Particularly enjoyed you playing with the dog (? name if I may ask) He always seems overlooked but I know you’re very busy. Doing a great job, I’ll be watching ...... Thanks 🙏
Wow i just watched all 3 videos. Its been awsome watching all that yall have done and so nice to not have to listen to someone preaching the hole time.. Please keep these videos coming. Yall are doing an EXCELLENT JOB.. THANKS FOR SUCH AWSOME QUALITY AND SOUNDS OF MOTHER NATURE AT ITS BEST..
I love watching your outdoor , shelter building adventures ! I believe I was born 100 yrs. too soon . I could live indefinitely in a shelter like you have built ! ( Well , I'm 72 yrs. old now , don't think I could manage it now ! ) But keep on making your video's , please . Thank you !
I love your videos. Camping alone gives me great joy and contentment and watching you puts me back there. Thanks so much. I want a camp just like yours! You're awesome!
Thanks! That's the hardest part of my filming style. I can't leave any space for "What is he doing?" Every taks has to have a beginning, middle, and end. Filming takes about 90% of my time out there honestly hahah
I do love it myself, but it's nearing time to move on I feel :). I hate to loose things, especially in the woods, so I always keep everything over organized; otherwise my mind goes a bit crazy. Thanks for the view
Thank you!! I put tons of work into this one. Over 200 separate shots were edited together. My older videos consisted of around 40, so the amount of work was more than tripled! Haha
Thank you for this video where nature and daily chores take precedence over words and the mundane. I thoroughly enjoyed this video as it reminded me of my days in the BWCA.
Awesome video at camp firlend! Appreciate the effort you've put into your videos. Last weekend I got rained on hard while camping in the Alberta rockies, still was a great time.
Ahh my friend , excellent video. Love the sound of the rain on the tarp . I'm glad to see that you also can your own food. I also can and smoke and dehydrate my food .I have admired that lantern you have for months now. Very nice. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos soon
Thank you! The rain on the tarp was nice until it was an absolute down-poor in the middle of the night hahah. I've been going a bit crazy with canning, dehydrating, and also hard tack lately. It's addictive to fill a shelf with food like that, even better to eat it. Those lanterns, if you're lucky, can be found extremely cheap. We found another one locally for just 65$ :). It's a Adlake Kerro Canadian Pacific Railway lantern, the one I use happens to be my grandfathers.
Hey Nicholas, dog days at Firlend :) Nice. Native Americans used sand to clean their food vessels, also. I've wanted to read 'Three Against the Wilderness' for a long time but even the used book version is out of my price range. At least I know how it ends :)) Thanks for the video and take care, Donna
You should read it for sure! We've had this book for ages, if I remember correctly my father got it directly from Eric Collier himself. Don't spoil the ending for me! haha. Thanks for the comment
This is one of the nicest well constructed and designed shelters on You Tube. Your dog is so cool, lying on the ground with his legs crossed and just chillin'...so quiet, too. Your load out must have been in the high 40's with all those mason jars of food. I noticed you didn't shake your blanket before rolling it up. I'd be afraid of bringing home ticks, spiders and other creepy little insects. Great video. Very enjoyable, Nicholas.
Thank you! The tarps are lacking however. She's a really good dog, she usually just sits and guards well I'm at the camp. It was probably more around 30, everything else I bring is usually pretty light haha. The walk into camp is short anyways so I don't mind the extra weight :). Thankfully I've never even seen a tick, we rarely have any here, if any at all haha. Thanks for the comment!
Hello from the Land of Enchantment in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Nicolas, this is a refreshing program you have produced. Makes me feel like I am right there in the camp with. Expected a little more narration, however, it is simply not needed. Awesome skill sets you display.
Love this video, the no music/commentary really make it stand out. I was relaxed the entire time and was falling asleep when the rain hit. Keep up the amazing work brother 💙 P.s. don’t forget us when you’re famous!!!
Alexander Punturi Glad you liked it :). I’m happy as hell that you found my channel. I’ll try to keep it up! Marie is here again now so we’ll be making tons of videos. You don’t forget me when you’re famous too haha
Nice video as usual. Try to get your hands on some 50lb. feed bags for use at your shelter, to store tinder, kindling and firewood. You'll always have dry wood. Cheers!
AH, A Great video. I've been miss'n for several months now, I have alot of catch'n up to do on your vid's. I really like that small 0il Lamp you have, its quite nice.
28 people who dislike this video are air condition warriors instead of getting out and exploring nature and camping they rather stay in an air conditioned house
You just have to build it big enough to the point where it puts out enough heat to evaporate the rain before it lands on it. Aside from that, I'm not sure
I wish! I'm honestly horrible at small tasks like that. I have the patience but am too much of a perfectionist. I'd end up just bothering me if I screwed up even a tiny bit hahaha. I'll have to learn however.
That's great what you built there. In Germany, building something in the forest is forbidden by law. I am really jealous. If I could, I would build something like that. But even if you own a forest you have to get permission for that and that is very difficult. 90 percent of all applications do not give you permission. Sometimes I regret living in Germany. Thank you for sharing your experience and work here. Keep it up. Always give everything, but never give up. Greetings from Germany. Oh, one more question, what is this belt you are wearing? Do you have a link for that? Thank you
Thank you. I've heard about it there, it's very unfortunate that you're limited so much. The belt is an old miners belt, used for holding batteries or something similar up. I have never seen a belt similar to it sadly
Question? Since U made that nice closed-off bedroom that U don't use, in winter. Y don't U make a nice little stone fireplace in the corner = nice & warm sleeping at -40F if U use bubble foil insulation to cover the walls & roof & a canvas roll-up door...
Drive a second up-right pole at Ur saw log & it will hold Ur log while U saw & save U energy, the frustration of trying to hold it & U won't end up with a cut hand or arm\artery >>>Safety First
It's fantastic you built, and have this shelter and continue to build on it. Great video as always, but the one thing I may have done differently is in regards to the sand behind the fire pit rocks. Obviously from my pov here on a computer screen I can't see the type of sand it is, but some sand will retain water and since it's actually higher than what you scrape out of pit, you may be surrounding the backside of the pit with a sponge for when it rains.... Again very hard for me to see the type of sand, but I highly appreciate the fire retardant application.
I watched this video, I really like the beautiful drawing here. I see below the description you allow the content to be reused. I ask for permission to use your video. and I will credit the video source as yours on my youtube channel. thank you. I will support you!
I'm happy to hear. I use Hanwag Trapper Top GTX boots. There's similar to the old Meindl Alaskan hunter boots, before they decided to replace them with a lesser model.
Can't wait to see what else you are up to, these next few months! Hopefully it won't take to! What's your dog's name??? See you soon, love your videos!!!
The camp looks great, it still holds up very nice! Have you ever thought about using the moss as roofing? Or is that not an option there? The video looks good, I like all the different frames! I always wonder why you use the matches for your lantern instead of a little stick from the fire? Hope you have a nice trip! Joshua
Thanks. I have, that was actually the original plan, but we never got around to it. It worked out however because if we had the weight of wet moss, and then snow on top of it, the shelter would have collapsed without a doubt. I have never thought about just using the fire hahaha, I'll do that next time instead of wasting my matches
I think I would like to see you camp for a longer time, do you fish or hunt? Canoeing? Have your dad come along! Just an idea but since it's a long term camp, shouldn't you start building with wood??? Just wondering. Comet is so we'll behaved does he sleep with you when your alone, he is so adorable?
I would love to! But there's many things restricting me from being out there for longer periods then 2 - 3 days sadly. I do fish, hunt, and I actually just bought a canoe to do both out of haha. Wood would be nice, yes, I'd imagine that the shelter would be upgraded and improved as time went on well you lived out there. This shelter was more built as an execution of an idea I had for a long-term shelter. It's more just used as a camp I visit now and then :). Comet usually sleeps about anywhere she can
I love a good kerosene lantern. I prefer them over just about any artificial light well in the woods, but sadly they're heavy and can't be lugged everywhere.
This is Holly from marketing department of Fenix. We want to sponsor you some lights as your journey. If any question, please feel free to let me know.

You're welcome haha
a tiny bit of talk would be nice lol
Wua hay
When you cleaned the pot with sand/dirt, did you wash it with water or just wiped it with a cloth? I'm asking this because, on your 2nd day, the pot did not have any sand/dirt in it.
Good basic camp out with a useful skills review. Refreshing to see a bushcraft guy who will show himself reading and learning while out in the woods.
I'm always trying to learn well I'm out there. Recommend any books? :)
Great build. A helpful suggestion, grab another set of those size tarps. I would double up to get double air insulation. and for added water proofing. Thats a trick I learned here where I am in the Smoky Mountains because it rains a lot. Ive camped all over the Rockies too, you could benefit from this tip.

I'm glad you enjoyed! I'll try
@@wituikbws I really did mate. Great work.
I love your videos. Camping alone gives me great joy and contentment and watching you puts me back there. Thanks so much. I want a camp just like yours! You're awesome!
I'm happy to hear it does! That's the goal :). Thanks for the comment
Very nice little shelter. I am liking your videos
i have just started watching....thank you for the serenity.
Glad to see you camp out in it. I reckon it was worth the wait. Wish I was there to try it out.
Nicely done, sir. You do a fine job of telling a story with no words.
Thanks! That's the hardest part of my filming style. I can't leave any space for "What is he doing?" Every taks has to have a beginning, middle, and end. Filming takes about 90% of my time out there honestly hahah
我嚮往野外生活,只是現實中沒有辦法,看了你的影片,好過癮,謝謝你~
一切皆有可能! 谢谢你!
When the rain started I almost fell asleep. I had to go back and listen to it again. Awesome video as always bro!
That's not a bad thing! Thanks man
I So love this shelter and I want to build it for myself big time.
Go for it!
thx you for your video. I like the naturel sound and the rain on the tarp. Sleeping with the rain is excellent for relax. (sorry for my bad english)
No problem! Your English isn't bad at all :)
Your camp is the best I have seen to date. Thanks for the wonderful video. - Josh
Thanks man :)
What a beautiful and peaceful camp you have; I like how neat and tidy you keep it. I love your dog, what a loyal companion. Great video.
I do love it myself, but it's nearing time to move on I feel :). I hate to loose things, especially in the woods, so I always keep everything over organized; otherwise my mind goes a bit crazy. Thanks for the view
Very cool 🤠
Love your videos. Simple.
I'm glad to hear
That is one of the best YT productions I have ever seen. You need to be on a major network.
Thank you!! I put tons of work into this one. Over 200 separate shots were edited together. My older videos consisted of around 40, so the amount of work was more than tripled! Haha
Great vid!
Thanks!

Awesome video at camp firlend! Appreciate the effort you've put into your videos. Last weekend I got rained on hard while camping in the Alberta rockies, still was a great time.

That chili looked awesome!!!
It was my grandfather's :)
Awesome camp! I wish had such great trees to work with!
Thanks! I'm very fortunate there's Cedar everywhere here haha

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..nice and cozy. Would I ever love to go and build a shelter like that. I would be in it all summer. lol.
Simply superb, please keep up the good work
Thanks! I'll try
Just come across your video and subscribed after only 5 minutes that shelter looks amazing atvb jimmy 😎😎🤘🤘
Thanks for subscribing!!
Your camp is so well thought out!!
I like everything, especially the fire reflector!
Thanks for sharing 😀 Cute dog too.
It took quite a bit of planning. The execution could've been better however haha
Oh glad you found your ring! Lol!
I had looked everywhere for it, in every pair of boots I own, the suv, everywhere, and there it was in a sleeping bag haha
It's so cool, I'm doing it. Favorite Channel
I'm honoured!
Great video! Loved it! Thanks for not talking through the whole thing!

I'm happy you found the silence nice! I sometimes thing I maybe need to start talking but I just can't bring myself to it haha
When hardwood is available .....coals are plentiful for restarting a fire
Father -Son team is hard to beat😎😎😎😎
There isn't much for hardwood here. The closest there is is birch of spruce. I agree though!
Thumbs up Nicholas. Sponsored too!! Keep em coming.
Thanks, I'll try
Love this video, the no music/commentary really make it stand out. I was relaxed the entire time and was falling asleep when the rain hit. Keep up the amazing work brother 💙

Welcome back :). That lantern was actually my grandfather's from when he worked on the Canadian Pacific
starting fire is one great trick for survival. , better practic it home before taking a trip. What kind of wood is this?.
Sure is. It's cedar
I really love this place I want to join with you guys
Come on down
Dude, at some point you're going to chop through that chopping log, and it's going to be AWESOME!
I hope not! That thing was HEAVY to carry over from the creek
Time for a bushcraft cart. :D
Oh man that would be cool haha
Got those wheels turning, did I? Hahaha, sorry for the lame pun.
Still made me laugh, but you did. Sadly that's way out of my skill set though
Nice
Thanks!
Damm thats so cool.......
Get out there and try it!
Great as always brother, been too long!!
Thanks! it sure has
You need a drop down screen for the seating area. Something you can roll up when not needed. Easy to drop when the mosquitoes get bad
28 people who dislike this video are air condition warriors instead of getting out and exploring nature and camping they rather stay in an air conditioned house
Amen
its 61 and counting....if you have seen one you have seen them all
Me thinks el puppy is a standard bred poodle.
Sweet kid.
Where would we be without our dogs?
Close! She’s a labradoodle. Believe it or not, she was 8 when this video was filmed
I love your camp and I really enjoyed the video. I have Subd
I'm happy to hear. Thanks for subscribing!
Awesome NW 🤓 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏🍺🇨🇦
:D
Amei esse programa
Fico feliz em ouvir
I don't think your pup understands the whole "fetch" thing. Adorable.
Not at all, but she has fun regardless
How do you protect the fire in rain? Thanks. Love the videos.
You just have to build it big enough to the point where it puts out enough heat to evaporate the rain before it lands on it. Aside from that, I'm not sure
Just watched your video again and was wondering if you do any kind of carving, (arts and crafts) that would be great watching!
I wish! I'm honestly horrible at small tasks like that. I have the patience but am too much of a perfectionist. I'd end up just bothering me if I screwed up even a tiny bit hahaha. I'll have to learn however.
New video please 😁 😁😁😊 thanks have a nice evening God bless you 🙏😇
Terrific video. I’ve been following you for sometime. I love the shelter. I have one similar. It’s my go to place to relax. Keep up the good work
Thank you. I'd love to see it sometime :)

Great videos and a nice shelter, but why did you leave the one side open and just cover it with sticks?
Love the dog too.
Thanks! I had planned to do a log wall on the back but never got around to it
i really love this channel.nice one.
I'm happy to hear!

Great video, enjoy your weekend.
Thanks, you too
Great video as always..... curious what does you pack loadout weigh? Looks like an old Alice pack, great piece of kit!
Thanks! It was probably around 20 - 25lbs on that trip, maybe even less. I can't remember
like the video, peaceful, nice camp, 'Question' what's the brand of hiking boots your wearing.
I'm happy to hear. I use Hanwag Trapper Top GTX boots. There's similar to the old Meindl Alaskan hunter boots, before they decided to replace them with a lesser model.
Love your dog - gorgeous. What is its breed? A wonderful companion.
Thanks! She's a labradoodle
I have a question, how do ya keep the bugs and insects out of your shelter when your gone and when your there?
We don't haha, we just deal with them
It's what I thought lol, thanks and keep up the great videos.
Can't wait to see what else you are up to, these next few months! Hopefully it won't take to! What's your dog's name???
See you soon, love your videos!!!
Got any ideas on what I should do? I'm running low. The dogs name is Comet, she's a Labradoodle :) Thank you for watching
Thank you for the videos you are posting. One question: what’s your dogs’ name?
No problem! Her name is Comet
i hope you try to camp at forest of Indonesia. *sorry my English
The camp looks great, it still holds up very nice! Have you ever thought about using the moss as roofing? Or is that not an option there? The video looks good, I like all the different frames!

I am from Taiwan. I like your film very much. I wish you better and better! What is the brand of your pants?
I'm happy to hear. Thank you! My pants are Rothco BDU pants, if you are in the market for wool cargo pants check out Gost Wear
Thank you! I have found it.
We had kerosene lanterns when I was younger for emergency lightening. They were a little bit bigger.
I love a good kerosene lantern. I prefer them over just about any artificial light well in the woods, but sadly they're heavy and can't be lugged everywhere.
Sir, two things... First, loved the camp, second, where is the latrine and where is the water supply? 2 very important parts for a campsite...
Thanks! We have a stream running along side the camp, and the latrine is way back in the woods away form everything. I show neither
That oil lamp must be very old?
60's I believe. It was my grandfather's from when he worked on the Canadian Pacific Railway
Never saw anybody wash a pot with dirt before...hey, whatever works.
Is that chili or rice and beans?
It works really well to get the grit out if it's sand :)
That light remind me of an old time kerosene lantern.
That's exactly what it is! It's my grandfather's old CPR lantern :)
This is Holly from marketing department of Fenix. We want to sponsor you some lights as your journey. If any question, please feel free to let me know.
You need to make a bigger table some chairs I think it's pretty cool that you're doing that but keep busy doing stuff for your camping area
Good ideas. Next camp I build, it will be a lot more comfortable.
