Hi, thank you for the interesting videos! About Auto capture: Did you notice, that the minimal distance, which can be set is not (!) the minimal distance, which you have for the particular lens for regular use, but seemingly the 20x of the focal length for the so called „prime“ lenses (not zooms)? As I tested, the minimal distance to set with auto capture is with the Z 800mm f6.3 16m(!) instead of regularly 5m. (With TC 2x 32m instead of 5m…) The corresponding values for Z 105mm MC 2,1m (instead of 29cm), for the Z 24-120mm 0,4m at 24mm, but it grows gradually to 2,4m up to the longest focal length for 120mm (which regularly allows to focus 0,4m to. For this lens zooming back to 24mm the minimal distance does‘t change again automatically to 40cm. It seems an allowed closest distance to set for the (not wide angel focal length) possible with auto capture limited by the software to the 20x of the particular (not wide angel) focal lens independently of its regular near focus capacity, which is much closer as that for auto capture (as I wrote the individual values for lenses I tested above). How do you think about? I mean, even if auto capture is generally a very good feature, at that point there is a very relevant limitation for wildlife photographer, with potential to improve this issue. I find it interesting, that up to now no reviews as Ricci and others) mentioned this issue. Even in the manual („addendum“ to firmware 4.0 there is no word about the limitation of the closest didtance, which differs from that, which the particular lens itself allows. I hope to get answer Best regards Josef (NPS member)

This reminds me of an optional feature of my old F4. Then you could buy a back with a distance trigger..

Hey Ricci, awesome video as normal. I see in some of your shots that focus peaking was on, were you shooting manual focus? How well did the Auto focus perform was there much lag before kicking into the sequence?
I'm doing my run on Friday and looking for your shortcuts haha...
    Loveya man!

I was disappointed that they didn't even mention focus or lag. Especially with a subject moving towards or away from the camera.

just got around to testing this, and this question is spot on - significant lag. Having tried it myself, and re-watched this video it looks like there was measurable lag in at least one of the auto captures - evident by watching the camera screen. Disappointed, and unless there's a good resource available, the many users posting online having difficulty with this feature are just continuing to get frustrated with it. And autofocus? not that accurate with high speed. Likely more lag.

I'm pretty certain all Z range camera can be updated with cool features. Seems nikon only cares about its flagship. There's a huge calling for the curtain to drop when changing lenses in all z series cameras but nikon won't update them to do it. Even sonys a6000 range have flagship features.

AUTOCAPTURE for long telephoto lenses, how does the autofocus work? because of the shallow depth of field, would it be able to focus and take pictures in time for fast moving across the frame subjects? it have to be prefocused? would it mantain 3d tracking or other modes? if the subject is a lot out of focus because of the DOF of the long telephoto lens, 400, 600 or 800, will it recognizeit and shoot it? Thanks

Did you not notice the setup for pre-release capture? The pre-release capture, at t=8:03 in the video, would address your concern.

Now…if I line up 25 Z9 cameras, how hard would it be to match up a batch of Auto Capture takes into a Bullet Time sequence???

    • @JasinBoland

Bullet time requires all cameras to fire at the same time.

What about other models other than Z9? Don't they also deserve updates that bring value to them? Or is the Z9 the only model that Nikon is interested and ignoring the others? Is this how Nikon take care of the customers that don't buy a Z9?

Can't use FW 4.0. It requires that I downgrade NX Studio to the Latest Version, 1.4. Studio has not worked properly since 1.2.2. I guess I will just have to stay with 3.10

I installed 4.0, and promptly removed it, because of an Issue with images taken with it in the Camera, do no Cooperate with NX Studio 1.2.2 However, NX Studio 1.3 and newer refuses to see the Image Files that have been transferred to the HD. So until Nikon fixes their Image Editor, FW version 4.0 is not a viable Option, and 3.1 will be my choice

After NX Studio, 1.2.2, any Images imported(I use Transfer 2) could not be seen by NX Studio. They had been transferred, as they could be seen by Windows and Photoshop, and other Image Editors. A new file was being added to the Download Folder(s), removing it sometimes allowed NX to see the images. Often clicking on an Image to edit, NX would lock up and post some message, which I can't remember. It took a real effort to remove NX, and everything else like Transfer that had been upgraded too, and to get 1.2.2 to work again. Until I am convinced that a newer version of NX Studio works correctly, I will stick with 1.2.2, even if I can't do any more Firmware upgrades to my Z9. Is there any way to remove any and all Video Functions, and Menus? That would be a Serious Upgrade in my Opinion
