“Jigsaw Puzzle" by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Lyrics:
There's a tramp sittin' on my doorstep
Tryin' to waste his time
With his methylated sandwich
He's a walking clothesline
And here comes the bishop's daughter
On the other side
And she looks a trifle jealous
She's been an outcast all her life
Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just tryin’ to do my jigsaw puzzle
Before it rains anymore
Oh the gangster looks so fright'ning
With his Luger in his hand
When he gets home to his children
He's a family man
But when it comes to the nitty-gritty
He can shove in his knife
Yes he really looks quite religious
He's been an outlaw all his life
Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jigsaw puzzle
Before it rains anymore
Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jigsaw puzzle
Before it rains anymore
Oh the singer, he looks angry
At being thrown to the lions
And the bass player, he looks nervous
About the girls outside
And the drummer, he's so shattered
Tryin’ to keep on time
And the guitar players look damaged
They've been outcasts all their lives
Me, I'm waiting so patiently
Lying on the floor
I'm just trying to do this jigsaw puzzle
Before it rains anymore
And as twenty-thousand grandmas
Wave their hankies in the air
All burning up their pensions
And shouting, "It's not fair!"
There's a regiment of soldiers
Standing looking on
And the queen is bravely shouting,
"What the hell is going on?"
With a blood-curdling "tally-ho!"
She charged into the ranks
And blessed all those grandmas who
With their dying breaths screamed, "Thanks!"
Me, I'm just waiting so patiently
With my woman on the floor
We're just trying to do this jig-saw puzzle
Before it rains anymore

Music video by The Rolling Stones performing "Jigsaw Puzzle".
in my opinion this song is one of the best tunes they have. Perhaps because it wasn't over played by radio or bar bands .❤
Favorite Rolling Stone song because of Nicky Hopkins piano genius
Love Nicky's manic piano playing at the end..
Jigsaw is another timeless classic from the stones 🎉🎉
Still such a haunteningly beautiful masterpiece. I love The Stones. Always have, always will. The Best band (group) EVER. It's only Rock n Roll, but I like it!!!!!!
To say the sound and lyrics of this song are amazing is certainly an understatement. It makes me and my inner child think, "Brian, why did you have to go?" The Stones went on to be the best band in the world, but their time with Brian was musically extraordinary and magical in my opinion.
Same song, but only acoustic guitar + mellotron : ua-cam.com/video/UzKLJE96-Oc/v-deo.html
Ele quase não participou do Beggars.
This was most likely Brian's last masterpieces on Beggars...While I'll always love the Mick Taylor years the best, there is no doubt of Brian's brilliance!
This song is prime example of why Jagger/Richard's is the best songwriting duo in Rock
Charlie, you served the music with your innovative style. For someone who didn't try/want to be a rock star you stood on the shoulders of giants. We miss you already. God bless you.
The cerebral visuals created by this song are unreal, never done by any other band;.what a story teller......i esp love the ending....the way it bends rolls....ah the STONES..... I AM HOME!!
This is my favorite Stones song. Man.. This was so well done. I loved it all over again.
Brian Jones, Johnny Walker 18, and Jigsaw Puzzle,
It doesnt get any better than this!
A thoughtful Stones tune.
I love the controlled sloppiness that only the stones could pull off!
LOL
Good, true comment!
Keeping time was not a problem Charlie Watts ever had. Godspeed.
well said , he was suble and dynamic and held them all together , he was in a class of his own !
great line..............."and the guitar players looked damaged ......they've been outcasts all their lives"........(sums up Brian and Keith perfectly) one of my favourite Stones tunes
great fuggin song from a greater album loved this in 68 and love it more in 21
Brian Jones and Bill Wyman were the stars on this song. I've never heard Wyman play better than this song. And the mellotron was Brian Jones was his parting gift to the stones.
Same song, but only acoustic guitar + mellotron : ua-cam.com/video/UzKLJE96-Oc/v-deo.html
A most underrated song. Simple in structure but richly textured and it really builds to a climax
only by ppl who didn't hear it while awol in a bar in Maine
is ok,they knew I was awol...they just didn't know where
What makes you believe it's underrated? Please explain.
Have never heard it played on the radio or otherwise mentioned.
My father was a Stones head, I remember as a kid in the 90s learning bass and this song always grabbed me
So many hidden Gems in these albums. Songs only diehard stones fans know
i started listening to them for at least a month lol
This has just grown on me more and more as I have aged
Nothing's greater musically and spiritually than to be a Die Hard Stones Fan!

Damn Micks voice sounds absolutely amazing in this song!
My favorite Rolling Stones' Track, it's sublime, a really underrated song
its a classic, love this song so much
Very very underrated
I like torn and frayed, but this is one of my favorites, I actually like this album and sticky fingers the best lol
It's like finally realizing.. the world is FUCKED completely. And there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Just try to finish your jigsaw puzzle before the fkn rain comes back..
but in a very real way it's an attempt at writing a Bob Dylan song. I mean come on "The bishops daughter" isn't even trying to hide its influence
I love the term 'methylated sandwich'.
From a drummer perspective about a drummer extraordinary. Mr.Watts a true gentleman through and through his dying day. We salute your presence always..
Rock's most elegant drummer has finally stopped his drum roll.
He remained a class act throughout the six decades of excess and glory, yet he remained cool and laconic to the very end. RIP
Replaying the music all morning.
My heart beats for Charlie 😇🙏❤️💯
Nobody nailed down a beat like Charlie.
It was Charlie who carried the band for 50 years. I miss him so much.
Best album ever with the late great Brian Jones!
This is a gem! Micks rant is so deep and gritty! Luv it
Used to listen to this song on the huge piece of furniture stereo console in my parents living room when they weren’t home. I’d never heard stereo before. We only had transistor radios and little portable record players before that. I couldn’t believe how great music sounded. It was like going from a black and white world to a world of color. It was my favorite song on the album
Nice bass work by Bill Wyman. It also sets the tone of the song, not taking anything away from Brian’s contribution.
The piano, the lyrics, the mellotron, ..... beyond compare!!
The slide guitar, that groovy bass...
Guitar eléctrico and acústica and bass one name Keith!
The bass! It's all about the bass!
Brian Jones....
the BASS
They never played this live. Too bad. But in May 2022 , there's still time!
Great song , the album and the whole band are great and what an unbelievable performance by Mick , he gave it his all , and man sang his guts out !
A great, great song. The Stones at their eerie best.
The sense of growing panic captures the year of 1968 perfectly in this track.
Superb graphics to compliment it. Nicky Hopkins, what a magnificent pianist!
Add in the creepiness of Brian's mellotron, which sends this over the edge into eerie territory. It's like the Hurdy Gurdy Man by Donovan meets Bob Dylan, and much of that is courtesy of Mick's lyrics and Brian's mellotron.
@Roberta Sirgutz 1969 wasn't much better. Brian Jones, the beginning
of The Troubles in Northern Ireland. Altamont was just a step away.......
I was born this year.
So much chaos in the world.
Explains a lot.
May the Stones Roll Into Eternity💋💖🎶🎸
One of THE most underrated albums in the history of R&R. Simply put...brilliant.
Yes. Part of the album seemed a homage to folk, but it just rocked beautifully.
What was its rating?
One of the best albums of all time. People just need to put it on and listen over and over
"Beggars Banquet" was and is never underrated! That and "Let it Bleed" are their most legendary albums.
Perhaps the perfect rock n roll song?
My favorite Stone’s song! I try to avoid it because I get an ear worm for weeks every time I hear it!
This is a piece of art
Beautiful bass work by Bill, Great Song!
This is one of my favorite Stones tunes and it shows the musicianship of the members of the band. Plus, the piano of the late, great Nicky Hopkins. This demonstrates the interaction of Bill and Charlie. Charlie was a great drummer and will be sorely missed. My youth flees from me.
best album ever
One of the best Stones songs, definitely a track that blends in an incredible way with the studio environment, and describes each member of the Stones. The work that Brian (RIP) does with the mellotron is an anthology, without that instrument the theme would not be the same, it is like the sonic backbone of the song ... and being a puzzle, it was the best choice.
Same song, but only acoustic guitar + mellotron : ua-cam.com/video/UzKLJE96-Oc/v-deo.html
Perfection! I wasn’t even born when this song was released! ❤❤❤
Back when you could listen to an album from the first song to the last and not have to skip one track. Crank it up and pop open that cold brew.
I am going to sip the bourbon and skip the brew, but I am right there with you brother! The whole fucking album is brilliant!
Yeah Jimmy
Or a few more LOL
Said it well man! Still remember 1968 like it was yday!
Yes, I love the ROLLING STONES TOO,!!!!!
tHE ROLLING STONES THE BEST
Life and understanding of others IS the jigsaw puzzle...Mick Jagger put it so well...I have always understood this concept in my life and were all here to get home and understand one another so we could get home in our final breath...thank the concept of patience in all that we do and the understanding of life whether it's hard or easy we make our peace with the reality of it all.

Brian's Mellotron flute part... makes this track
Yeah, that mellotron is creepy cool
Simply one of the best songs ever created.
And 50+ years later the Queen is still bravely shouting, "What the hell is going on?"
Leave the queen alone. She made him SIR. 👅👅👅👅🍻
She killed brian jones
@@geristracener5253 She didn´t tho, in fact she was completely against it
Mick Jagger is underrated lyricist
The Beatles are usually thought to be the more spiritual of the two groups but the truth of this song that we get what we always need has put me in touch with God instead of the world.
This is perhaps Mick's greatest lyrical accomplishment to date.
Rather Dylan-ish
Love this freakin song and album. Yes! Charlie is a phenominal drummer. Nicky Hopkins slays the keys!
Yes you're right 👌🏼
I heard this album when it was new, my neighbors kid was a hippie, and I was watching their grandkids. Played this album and it was a lot different than the Stones songs that I always heard on the radio. Been a huge fan since, and that’s 50 years or so. Won’t go to stadium shows anymore, especially for the outrageous prices, but from mid sixties through the 70s, Stones absolutely ruled!
Mr. Keith is Mr. Rhythm Riff himself!
Very COOL song !! Love it!!!
“And The Drummer He’s So Shattered Trying To Keep On Time”. Lol

What's the first?
Beggars Banquet is pure gold from start to finish!!!
You are correct. It's one of their best songs, and yes, inexplicably, they've never played it live.
GREATEST ROCK N ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD 🌎🌍🎸🦇✌️😎👍⚡⚡
Props to creator of these awesome /rarer Stones tunes with the lyrics. Great touch with the bathroom graffiti off Beggars Banquet album cover. I had the LP with white invitation cover & pic of Stones feasting mid evil style.
Stones #1 👍💣💥
This album shows, for the ones who still doubt of the legacy of The Rolling Stones for bands like AC DC and recently Rival Sons : Stones are one of the historical founders of what we call blues rock or rock blues, in a straight line from specially Chuck Berry. For all those about to rock, I salute you !
I like how just after the 2:00 mark the tune just goes out there...spacey. Beggars is really when the Stones became the Stones. Good stuff. Sympathy, Street Fighting, wow.
That's Brian Jones on Mellotron.
Brian...
Best stones lyrics you never heard.
I'm actually glad that this gem managed to slide under the radar and thus not get played to death like so many of the Stones' hits. An all-time fave. The building energy is classic Stones at their best. (Got to admit for the last 50 years I thought in the third chorus Mick was singing, "Me, I'm just waiting so patiently, with my woman all aglow...")
Very true about it being under the radar and thus never overplayed. Reminds me of other Stones gems I loved that also were not played a lot on the radio, like Sway, Rocks Off, and Coming Down Again.
Riff McClavin Please read the lyric sheets...you don't get the true meaning without that.
Man, you said it. There's so many Stone's classics u don't hear a thousand times a year... ya gotta get out your turntable!
GREAT song!!! Everytime I play a "B" side or more obscure song from any Rolling Stones album, I always wished that they would of done a "Besides/Instead of their Greatest Hits" type tour in smaller venues.....
Man, Charlie Watts can really groove. Love the ghost notes on the snare.
Ringo agrees.😎🥁😎
Song fits in just right in my puzzle
RIP!
I’m hearing some major influence from Jimmy Miller here
Thank goodness for internet. Years ago I was going through the Tim Tang Test and heard this. One of my favorite songs to this day.
6 minutes of heaven
Man, Mick,is such a great Lyricist.
He doesn't get enough credit.
Keith has written some pretty good lyrics as well.
@scottdavidson526 like which? I only know Salt of the Earth and I Don't Wanna Grow Up with Tom Waits
Mick has got this shit down from the get .👅👅👅👅👅💨💨💨
My first Stones album better believe I know every word to the whole album excellent
Why the hell has this song not been given a thousand stars in the book of Great Music of All Eternity?? I can keep listening over and over again. Go out deep into the woods on a moonlit night, find a witch circle, sit down in the middle of it, look up at the stars and play this song on repeat, become one with the universe ... Now this is music ....
its our little big secret
Thats EXACTLY what I am doing right now, 10 times full volume and still can't get out of my car!!!! Love when a song can do that to you, so many like that, Jefferson Airplne Wooden Ships to name one
damn shame this song has never been played live. imagine Keith on acoustic, Ronnie doing the slide, and Mick doing the mellotron portions on harmonica. Hell, I'd even put up with Chuck Leavell's clanky rendition of an excellent Nicky Hopkins piano inclusion.
Bill is really good on this
I bought this album when I was 13 finally figured out the lyrics. I'm 50 years old and this album still gets me hard. RIP my beautiful charlie!!♥️
The guitar in this song is hauntingly beautiful. I remember when this album was released. I went & bought it immediately. Thank you Stones for the music & memories.
Just goes to show that all the Keith Richards haters don't a clue.
@@brianmiller6055 And probably Brian Jones' last audible efforts.. the slide on No Expectations, mellotron, and possibly him playing lap steel on this track (and possibly lap steel on Salt of the Earth also).

Brian's contributions to the Stones on Beggar's and Let it Bleed:
Beggars:
Dear Doctor - Harmonica
Prodigal Son - Harmonica
Parachute Woman - Harmonica; rhythm acoustic
No Expectations - Slide Guitar
Jig-Saw Puzzle - Mellotron
Stray Cat Blues - Mellotron

Midnight Rambler - Congas

Jigsaw Puzzle is truly a superior song from a masterpeice album. Kudos to Jimmy Miller who produced the best Stones albums Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers ,Exile On Main Street and Goatshead Soup. Miller also produced Jumpin' Jack Flash as his first collaboration with the group.
Forgot that list, thanks. Jimmy Miller is truly an underappreciated part of the Stones' "Golden Era". Sadly missed.
@@markb20 Golden era is 100% correct!
@@TC-dw6wg Like producer George Martin with the Beatles, Jimmy Miller's influence on the Stones' greatest period couldn't be more clear- from 1968's single Jumping Jack Flash and every album through 1973's Goats Head Soup.

Best song on the album and my favorite stones album. Listen to the bass
The bass player (Bill Wyman) is looking nervous about the girls outside.
Inside joke.
Wyman had more pussy than the rest of the Stones combined.
@@ernestkinas5973 They actually kept a log in the early days of how many girls each guy shagged. In the first big year (1964), Bill had say 250, Brian had 225, Mick had maybe 150, Keith maybe 70, and Charlie had 2. Not the exact figures, but that's roughly in the ball park.

I've lost all my real family members. I truthfully tell people there are only two people who have been there for me all my life: Mick and Keith - . . . beginning when my brother ( then 16) played Jumpin Jack Flash to a his wondrous little brother who idolized him (me then 4) right after he brought the 45 home in 1968; to him giving me his worn out 8 track of Hot Rocks in 1973 (I played it over and over) to this day when seeing Mick and Keith still perform brings a tear to me eye. For me its truly been the sun, the moon, and the Rolling Stones.
Nicky Hopkins on Piano? Man, that was an excellent rif at 5:30 in- the piano playing is most excellent! RIP Nicky
Charlie's intro to this amazing song is brilliant. RIP Mr. Watts you were damn good!
And it was with this album and this song that the Beatles and the stones no longer competed with each other and they would begin to break away and make music their own respective ways no longer in competition.
I always considered this to be the end of the rivalry, where The Stones just said “Fuck it, we’re better.”

OMG you’re so right! Brian was a wonderful contributor. He knew what would sound good where. Just genius…but a tortured one. Strawberry Fields opens with a mellotron…and I never knew what one was years back when I first got into the blue 67-70 Beatles record. The thing makes such magical sounds.
