I became hooked on music shortly after WWII and there have been quite a few greats who were relatively little known and yes, Della was one of them. So was Jaye P Morgan and Eartha Kitt. Even more so was Big Maybelle. But none were ever really 'underrated' by any who heard them.
What an overwhelming performance ! You only need to look to her face and how she's acting: she's not simply singing her song, she's living it through - it is HER story she's telling us wonderful, thank you, Della, thank you so much for that gift !!!
How cool to know that after ALL these years! Della was a super actor...just super..and very devoted Christian. I have her entire series of "Touched By An Angel".
what's great is these people actually sang live...not pre-recorded like they do now. She really was incredible. A voice with such passion, character, and true singing abilities.
I cannot add anything to what has been said. The woman had a voice that knocked me off my feet. Her version of "Don't You Know" etc etc will always be my favorite. Thank you Miss Della for helping me through my teens and early '20s. Will never stop playing your music . In my 80s now but it still fills my soul . God Bless you....RIP
Della's so right when near the end she says, "the more you sing it the better you feel." She sure got me smiling and clapping. God Bless you, Della. And Thank You! Wendy
This really touched my soul. The music, the dress code, the joy makes me feel I was born in the wrong era. I simply love her. I used to race to hear her sing the theme song for Touched By An Angel. Only recently have I discovered how amazingly talented she was. More I want more!
@@juliusroman8616 Depends on where you lived. I lived in the 1960’s, and there were mixed race relationships, in my state. As there were, as long as love, has existed. Such class, and that voice gives me goose bumps everytime I hear Ms. Reese sing., I am so happy that I have albums, and now especially being able to catch her great performances here on UA-cam..love it..

This was the closing number on Della's awesome 1960 RCA album titled "Della". I should know as I probably wore out two vinyl copies of this top favorite album! This last number on the original vinyl release really leaves you in a great mood as the whole album literately puts you into orbit by the time this number closes out the recording! Even though she is a Reverend now and is doing fine work close to her heart , I'd bet money that even in her Eighties she is still a 101% fine singer who I still wish would revisit some of this kind of music on a new recording for us fans at least one last time!
I just love this woman and have done most of my life I have all the songs She is brilliant I fisrt heard this beautiful woman when i was 10 years old I am 65 now and still playing her songs in the home in the car God bless you Della xxxx

One of my favorite American female vocalists. Her voice was so distinct and powerful. I loved her rendition of "Don't You Know?"

Hi
Here in 2024. Loved her. Used to listen to her on the radio when I was 9 years old!
that's when you know a true singer... no auto tune... just pure talent... always loved her since touched by an angel
Classic! No background singer, no background dancers, smoke and mirror...just the Della and the music.
Della Reese is marvelous! I have loved her for years! She deserves far more recognition for her recording career!
Rip to this beautiful and captivating legend

You weren’t born in the wrong era. The 1960s were riddled with segregation. It’s better to focus on there problems now than romantize about the past.

She sang the song "I will walk with you" for the show Touched by an Angel. She had been singing most of her life, acting was second.
OMG I remember that from when I was a kid and thought that it was Nancy Wilson. This is an amazing performance.
