- This video outlines the basics of removing and replacing the fuel tank on a GEN II EFI URAL sidecar motorcycle. This video is for entertainment purposes ONLY and is not intended to be instructional. URAL Motorcycles recommends any service or repair be performed by an authorized URAL dealer or service center.
Always enjoy your videos! After I do a job like this once, it seems obvious, but for a first-timer, this step-by-step is tremendously valuable. Please keep doing these!
I thought it would be more complicated than that. Thankfully I don’t have to remove the tank to adjust my Ural’s valves as I must do on my other rides.
Thanks David.
Not to difficult, a little messy maybe... you will smell like gas when your done.
Very interesting, David. I like your method better with the crossover tube rather than running the fuel pump to get the gas out. That way the fuel pump doesn’t need to get reprimed. Next time, I’ll do it the correct way 😬.
Hello Alan. I have used both the fuel pump and cross over methods on the GEN I EFI. The crossover tube is how we used to it with the carbureted bikes. When the GEN II EFI came out we just went back to doing it the old way. It is a little messy but it drains quicker in my opinion and yes if you use this method on GEN I you won't have to prime the pump but you still may need to purge air from the fuel line. Common problem with quick disconnects on any vehicle or bike, they get a little air bubble trapped at the connector and it needs to be "burped" out.
I always remove the "nut" from the seat first. :-)
LOL!
Thanks David this is helpful, as I need to replace the low fuel sensor on my 2017 Gear Up, which crapped out after less the 2k miles on the dial.
I had to do this recently. Make sure the fuel pump gas line REALLY clicks in place, or you will get a not so nice surprise on the test ride...
Id like to see a video of how to install the reverse shift kit...
Hello Michael, as that product is made and distributed by one of our dealers I don't have any plans to make an install video for that kit. I'll make a note of it though and talk to the folks that manufacture the kit, they might be able to make an install video. Good idea, I will talk to them.
Y'all could sell a Ural repair series for any problem on DVD and online...
We are working to cover most topics and compile everything in one location that can be revised with yearly changes if necessary. Selling a series is an interesting idea for the future, right now everything is put out for free because we see it as a way to have direct dialog with our customers, even if it's through UA-cam videos. Thank you for your feedback!
New Tank, Must be a High Capacity Upgrade
I thought it was the new auto updating tank logo version! Whoa, that is different. Almost Retro like...
Does the tank with the tool box still exist for new models???
@@jamesrobinson46 yes the toolbox gas tank can still be ordered for a new bike or purchased as a replacement part for older models. Manufacturing and travel time from the factory do result in a long lead time but it can still be had. Most any dealer can get you an answer on cost.
@@JamesAllmond It is a modified Retro tank, we wanted to see how it would look, it was just for fun. Not a production piece.
Hey Jon! it's a modified Retro tank with standard frame mounting points. It was just for fun to see how it looked, capacity is exactly the same (I measured). Higher capacity has been a topic for some time, we'll just have to see what the future brings.
Is it possible to change the fuel pump on the 2017 (that doesn't shut off once it reaches pressure) for the 2019 and above ( Keihin I believe) that does shut off once the rail is pressurized?
The only service on my fuel tank on my Ural was to replace the gas petcock push not broke after being 25 years old
