This is why events unnerve me They find it all, a different story Notice whom for wheels are turning Turn again and turn towards this time All she asks is the strength to hold me Then again the same old story World will travel, oh so quickly Travel first and lean towards this time Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown Heaven knows, it's got to be this time Watching her, these things she said The times she cried Too frail to wake this time Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown Heaven knows, it's got to be this time Avenues all lined with trees Picture me and then you start watching Watching forever Forever Watching love grow, forever Letting me know, forever
Most of yall need to pick up a book and read about Maria Antoinette she was not a horrible queen who didn't care about poor people... she had no idea what was happening beyond Versailles walls royals lived restricted lives. She didnt know how horrible the poor people were living. People were also spreading lies and making up rumors tarnishing her reputation... her repuatation sealed her fate she was beheaded because of that not because of treason.
The sad part is that she and her husband did try to make a difference, but their historical time and being surrounded by bad influences drove to their fall
Marie Antoinette was also poorly educated due to her mothers disinterest in her up until the prospect of marriage with the dauphin. This lack of education leaving her unfit to rule.
It's all such irony seeing that her mom was such a historically important and well known figure... Marie was definitely unaware of how to be a good queen and I truly don't think that's her fault. it was how she was raised all her life , behind the doors that restricted her..
Wonderful song...I can't stop listening to it, I have it in my ipod and cell phone. I love the atmosphere it creates - it takes me far away from this world (thank god) into a dreamy but meditative state....

if you do a quick history check you will see that 100 years before marie antoinette the line "let them eat cake" was rumored to be said by quite a few different princess' in one form or another. also, marie would have had to been 10 years old at the time of allegedly saying such a comment. that would be 3 years before even marrying louis. also there is proof that she was beheaded over a scandal arising from a purchase of a million dollar necklace which she denied and said she had been framed by her own royal subjects due to france's high debt. she also never made fun of the poor and made it a priority to help out in every charity possible.
i just watched this movie the other day and really loved this scene. i've always loved this song and it made this movie so much better. i was wanting to rewatch this scene, and when i was just looking for this song stumbled upon this video. thank you youtube.
You know when you find that one song that describes your life and you feel like you should be sitting in a theater watching a montage of your life as it plays. I just found it.
I walked down the isle to this song at my wedding. It just fit our stories. I know it isn't the original, but Ian's words hit the nail on the head just as well.
I have never understood why they didn't show her trial in the film, Marie Antoinette was extraordinary at that moment ; for the very first time of her life she behaved like a queen !
Watch the 1939 film staring Norma shearer. They cover her whole life not just her time in Versailles but the revolution, their shoddy flight escape, her husbands execution and her reaction and the kids being taken from their mother and her deep love for Axel von Ferson. It ends with her death. It was one of the best films ever made.
It's all such irony seeing that her mom was such a historically important and well known figure... She was definitely unaware of how to be a good queen and I truly don't think that's her fault it was how she was raised all her life , behind the doors that restricted her..
I completely agree, but two things need pointing out: The Austro-Hungarian court couldn't have been more different than Versailles. It was much simpler, intimate and closer to modern courts. The other one is that Marie Antoinette was never intended for the Dauphin, and being the last child she had a much more liberal upbringing than her siblings. Her sister died, putting her in the position of future Dauphine, a role which for which she was completely unprepared. Also, if you look at what we actually know of her (including her trial), I think she probably was a good Queen, but being Austrian, was a perfect scape goat for the ills of the "Ancient Regime"
Alison Park not entirely true she used to go incognito into the slums of Paris bringing parcels to the poor and needy....she also gave lifelong support to a poor child who had lost its mother. So she was aware but also did perform many acts of charity
This song brings me back to those cold (4 C°) dark mornings in the lonely halls of the Faculty of Engineering, illuminated by fluorescent lamps with flicker effect and a cold wind entering from the huge windows. Waiting for classes to start...
@fariz90 the XVIIIth french century fits with all kind of music. This is absolutly amazing. This part of the french history seems to be universal......
the first part of this video shows the loneliness and sadness portrayed in her eyes. I can relate to the feeling in the movie of feeling lost although i think at the end she finds her self.
I always love how they show historical films about the Revolutionary War or the Victorian Era and every character is beautiful and coiffed. Most people don't stop to think that back then there was no medical care and no dentistry and people rarely bathed. They wore wigs because of hair loss and lice, and wore tons of perfume because they stank.
Marie Antoinette was a great person, but he was very wealthy, able to afford his exaggerations of clothes, perfumes, makeup and food, she taken money intended for people for that. So the French people rebelled and the French Revolution occurred, where Marie Antoinette was beheaded
I'm a great fan of Kirsten Dunst. True that the critics of the movie keep a French viewpoint, one expected thus something less ' caky ' .. or modern but I appreciate the freshness of this movie.
I think they took LOT'S of baths . You can't live the way they did and stank , maybe over kill of the perfume .But I could be wrong , I would have loved to live there.
It was sad what happened to the french people but she was married off in her early teens and prince louis would't have anything to do with her so she just gave up and decided since her life was practicaly dead anyway she might as well blow the riches, you see most of the poor french had family at least and love, her life was a chess game and she was just a peice of it.so sad!!!
She also lived in luxury and was covered in diamonds and food while all her people starved. Yet nobody considers that a tragedy. Tehre's a reason the french people were very angry.
The circumstances were a tragedy not their marriage. She maybe did not love him first but years after years she became a woman in love. Some say she was a Count De Fersen mistress, some say the contrary...
The common people used chamber pots up to the end of the 19th century, and in the morning they threw the contents on the streets after shouting a warning to passers by (they were courteous mind you).
becasue you should rust the accuracy of the history written byt the people who need to show a reason why they beheaded her. Her Majesty was actually a benevolent and very compassionate towards the poor, In case you are missing what I'm saying she never said anything about cake.
The movie and soundtrack changed my life
tbh mine too
cutie pie same
Right?!
she should make more movies. she has a unique outlook
Best soundtrack ever
god this song brings so many different emotions at once. it's almost overwhelming, makes me want to cry.
I don't why this song makes me feel nostalgic about something
Same
this song is one of those songs that pop up in my head every now and then for the rest of my life
Thank you Sofia Coppola, you always chose the greatest actors, the greatest places, stories, and....of course, the best sountrack!! Thank you!
All done so Beautifully
What a beautiful movie
This is why events unnerve me
They find it all, a different story
Notice whom for wheels are turning
Turn again and turn towards this time
All she asks is the strength to hold me
Then again the same old story
World will travel, oh so quickly
Travel first and lean towards this time
Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Watching her, these things she said
The times she cried
Too frail to wake this time
Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown
Heaven knows, it's got to be this time
Avenues all lined with trees
Picture me and then you start watching
Watching forever
Forever
Watching love grow, forever
Letting me know, forever
Amazing soundtrack.
wish it was HD! It would have been WONDERFUL! Because I'm truly in love with the song and the film!

She was too young to be Queen of France at the time too, at 19 years old.

Laura Manzoni Exactly, she wa meant to be nothing but a pretty ornament over a political alliance.

This is lovely.....
always loved this song ,, the soundtrack made enjoy the movie more ,Damn Sophia way to go !!!!
this song is the song I most often find myself playing on repeat
Yes, Sofia placed them there to show that at that time, Marie Antoinette was just a teenager like any other.
i have absolutely loved this film for the first time i have seen it! and now, i can't waching it without being excited
You know when you find that one song that describes your life and you feel like you should be sitting in a theater watching a montage of your life as it plays. I just found it.
this movie stood out for me. I absolutely loved it and i bought it the day i saw it. This song i love as well and will NEVER leave my iPhone and iPod
My favorite movie and soundtrack. I'm learning the piano pieces on my piano after getting the sheet music.
I walked down the isle to this song at my wedding. It just fit our stories. I know it isn't the original, but Ian's words hit the nail on the head just as well.
Don't everrr delete this video! i'm in love with it.
I have never understood why they didn't show her trial in the film, Marie Antoinette was extraordinary at that moment ; for the very first time of her life she behaved like a queen !
Exactly!
Simo Neschi the film isn't about her downfall -- it's about her glory and innocence. I think it ended perfectly. It wasn't a documentary
She had matured by then. The movie portrayed Marie and Louis as the naive teenagers that they were and everyone ignored
Watch the 1939 film staring Norma shearer. They cover her whole life not just her time in Versailles but the revolution, their shoddy flight escape, her husbands execution and her reaction and the kids being taken from their mother and her deep love for Axel von Ferson. This soundtrack is life
This is the best version.

Forever watching love grow. How sad.
@LucasHiltonVicious16 That long? The movie and the music is still fresh in my mind.
at 2:27 - Wow, I didn't know they had converse back in the 1760s... news to me! lol.
Coppola put the converse in to further emphasize that Marie was just a teenager
+cutie pie Ah! Good to know! It just seemed weird since everything else seemed so period correct. That's cool to learn that, though. :-)
I thnk they were called Chuck Taylor's back in those days
I always love how they show historical films about the Revolutionary War or the Victorian Era and every character is beautiful and coiffed. Most people don't stop to think that back then there was no medical care and no dentistry and people rarely bathed. As a stoner I like that the length of this video is exactly 4:20.
I think they took LOT'S of baths . You can't live the way they did and stank , maybe over kill of the perfume .But I could be wrong , I would have loved to live there.

I'd go even further and say that the idea of medicine goes back to the ancient Greeks, and hospitals began to develop in the 6th century AD.
She also lived in luxury and was covered in diamonds and food while all her people starved. Yet nobody considers that a tragedy. Tehre's a reason the french people were very angry.
The circumstances were a tragedy not their marriage.
