- Clips of Ann Arbor MI put to some new order.
I made this when I was only 12
so this is really old and it isn't
filmed very well, but i hope you like it : )
and to answer everybody's questions, i'm
actually sixteen now so the date at the end
of the video is wrong.
this is the only music video for ceremony that i care about.
Can't believe this is almost 13 years old.. time sure flies and I miss the old days.. miss my childhood :)
Hope everyone is doing fine ♡
I can't believe this song is 40 years old!
@@davec5233 wow 👁️👁️40 dang I'm a sprout and barely half that number haha 😆 time surely does truck along
it is so perfect how a 12 year old tries to capture a moment of her childhood to this song.
*sighs* This is the best version of Ceremony. God, I have loved this song for over 20 yrs. now. Still listen to substance in my car all the time.
This song is so magical, it's like the Joy Division - New Order bridge. I will always
Very interesting video for an extremely interesting song... that was played at JD's last gig & became NO's first single, creating an artistic link bw both these outstanding bands ! Thanxxxx Bernard, Peter, Stephen... and Ian (may your tortured soul remain in eternal bliss !) ! Peace to all JD / NO fans round here !
Beautiful Imperfect video for a beautiful imperfect song ..perfection itself .
This enduring fan-made video was made 13 years ago.
Astralis Lux 10 years ago...
February 7, 2007, not a whole year, kinda like 11 years.
Read the description.
11 years now
9 years later :) still my favorite video.
I feel like I've aged with this video haha. At one point this was the only way I could listen to the alternate version.
We all aged with this video Dillon. I remember coming here 2009 to listen to this version... and the other one someone did in a Super 8 with a girl named Robyn (which I cant find now!).
Dillon Aubin neat huh?
So true!
Me too it's the best version online. God bless who ever made this. Thank you so much
Same here! Greetings from germany :p
Play this at my funeral.
I play this everyday :)
Jandres Ric
correct
Play this at my wedding.
Play this at my birth.
9999Sleeper I just said that to my wife yesterday.
Abby, great job. I have been watching this for years now and never posted. You captured the essence of New Order even if it was Ann Arbor and not Manchester. Not a whole hell of a lot of difference except that Manchester, or Madchester, has produced some of my all time faves. And quite insightful for only being 12 at the time! Thank you.
R.I.p ian never forgotten love. Your sound and I'm going from the same situation xxxx
R.I.P Ian, walk in silence.
your film is beautiful. you've captured the feeling of the song, and where they are coming from, spot on. Nice one. :-)
I walked down the isle to this song at my wedding :)
The video fits the song quite well. Shot on a gray overcast winters day, mostly off level, uneventfully passing leafless trees. The shots of the train, brick buildings, stopped traffic and impersonal infrastructure all work. Very simple and fitting. Good Job!
Bernard Sumner's voice is sending tingles through my face and legs as I write this, I absolutely love this song so much, this appears to be the version from New Order singles.
Fan for life!
This is still one of my favorite hometown videos, ever!
My favorite version of this song. Thanks for taking me back to the days when I made the trek from Flint to Ann Arbor through the snow. New Order's music always lends itself to the dark and deary late-winter Michigan weather.
There are two versions of this song, you have used the better and only orthogonal version. Well done.
Is this the original green sleeve version? I have an early factory one but with the cream sleeve and a later reissue with a green sleeve. But I gather the initial pressing was a different version.
How could they release a Joy Division song without Ian Curtis's voice on it... they might thought the same. If they did, good job it didn't put them off... what a fine tribute to Ian Curtis, such an evocative sound.
I like hearing it through the "eyes" of a 12 year old.
My life while in college in the mid 80's was late-punk and Manchester-sound. This is a huge flash back and I love it. When I was in HS in 80 I lived for the Police, JD, U2 and the Clash. I miss this so much!
I have many highschool memories of caravaning from Flint to Ann Arbor to the Necto rockin with New Order blaring out of the speakers. Thanks for bringing it back.
The grey skies capture the mood of New Order and the weather in good old Manchester :)
Nice work.
Magnificent capturing of the Manchester weather!
zebraspot69 WHAT SORT OF IDIOT ARE YOU ZEBRASPOTS???? WHAT SIGNIFICANCE DOES THAT HAVE TO MY COMMENT YOU UA-cam CRAWLING LOUDMOUTH HIDING BEHIND YOUR COMPUTER...
Aus80sRockRadio To be fair..this was filmed in Canada..and not Manchester uk ..ya donkey!
zebraspot69 Well Zebra spots or Donkey stripes or whatever you are... You may like to take a step back to 1 month ago, where you will read: that "the grey skies capture the mood of New Order and the weather in good old Manchester" - if you take a look at the top of that comment in blue print - you will see it was posted by "Mikey D". Last time I checked that wasn't me... You also might note that I live in Australia and have never been to either Manchester nor Canada.
Aus80sRockRadio sorry..
YT needs a love button!
You do a great job of capturing the look and feel of Ann Arbor. Man, this makes me homesick!
The most perfect video for this sublime song. Thank you.
I thought you did a good job on this.I can't believe you were 12 when you did this.
It was great that you used the original version of "Ceremony",and not the second version
that's found on the CD releases.
The original is better imo, it has that killer hi-hat!
I'll break them down no mercy shown, heaven knows it's got to be this time!
This video reminds me of Feburary/March days in Wisconsin when I used to commute an hour each day to work.. I really enjoyed the alone time & I always used to listen to this song (really loud)-in the car-because it used to put me in a trance, relax me, & bend time..
This video captures the essence of it(the music playing & the world is passing me by around it).. it was always the BEST PART OF MY DAY!! .. Thankyou for helping me relive a good experience !! -Thankyou. ;)
one of their best songs...and a great video to go along with it...Rest In Peace Ian(i hope you really are) never forgotten and always loved...
This video is New Order, even if it was crafted by a 12-year-old.
beautiful beautiful and beautiful
I've lived in California for 30 years but I grew up in Michigan and went to U of M in the early eighties. This song combined with this video seems to capture the essence of my own personal experience of what it was like to be a young college student in Ann Arbor during those years.
I live in LA, grew up in Ann Arbor. Thanks for the images put to one of my favorite songs.
that fucking bass line, it's bedrock
I know every inch of this video.
I really love folks who film their home town and put it to great music! and it 's funny how one place looks and feels very much like another.
just everything about this is fantastic. gives you that nostalgic feeling, but the wonderful kind. i love every aspect of this video.
I miss Ian
Abby you are awesome!
This song.. it just never gets old, i fell in love with it when i first heard it and i love it just as much now.
i can comfortably play this song in my car all day repeating it over and over, don't know why, but its such a pwoerful song for me, am i crazy? i listen to millions of songs , but this one just goes on and on and on in my head < POWERFUL !!
long live new order !
whats the song in the outro?
SUBLIME
a song that will never be forgotten. thanks ian.
"Ceremony" is one of my all-time favorite songs. It's just beautiful.
And this is a great video to put the song to, as well.
This song is amazing. this song and video compilation really makes me realize how much we take for granted in day to day activity.
I had been looking for this song forever! One of my most favorite songs ever.
One of my all time favorite songs:) thanks for posting!!!
This is my favorite video to one of my favorite songs, thank you kindly :)
I just love the fact that I came all the way from Norway to experience the US, and ended up randomly in Ann Arbour.. And here it is again, along with my favorite song.
I remember being 10 years old and my sister and her boyfriend listened to this all the time and it was my favorite. Now I'm 16 and this song is still one of my all-time favorites. It is absolutely beautiful.
Ann Arbor and Manchester -- this video captures something about the song that could never be better filmed. Congrats --
I've been watching it forever..... Thanks
It is one of the most beautiful songs ever, when ever I feel depressed, which is often, I listen to this and it instills peace in my soul.
In my opinion, the very best New Order song. Perfect to begin a CD, to begin a day, to begin a road trip, it feels like a beginning, new day type of song. It gives me hope.
The genius of the this video is that it inadvertently captures the same feeling of loneliness and isolation conjured by the song: a miserable northern winter, angled scenes of industrial blight and suburban sprawl from a dirty car window; anonymous, recursive traffic and blurred pedestrians. I keep watching it.
Well done young 12 year old ! The melancholic greys capture the mood of the song !
I listened to this and thought of your childhood. It was amazing.
Hey people, I've been a New Order fan since DAY ONE. And hearing ceremony out of nowhere on television. Brought a huge smile to my face. Gotta love it!!!!!
been watchin this for ages best song and best vid ever, watched joy div live in '78 and the lads since
Love this song.
This is a perfect vid for this too -- somewhat innocent, like a new kid looking out into the world for the first time.
This is a classic song set to a great video, well done for putting this together at such a young age. I loved New Order's music for years, only lucky enough to see them live once in 1986 when they toured Sydney. But their early stuff after Joy Division was realy haunting, but some how not quite as dark as Ian's stuff. Ceremony still sends a chill down my spine every time I here it, and while it's not a happy song, it's not a sad one either strangely. Good job.
two chords just two chords, 30 years ago , just brilliant ! timeless
me too , I am addicted to it and have been since I bought it in March 1981...what a song, it is on another plane, nothing can touch it
AHHH I LOVE ANN ARBOR! I was just there yesterday. i love this song sooooo much, it's amazing.
Brings back memories of seeing New Order at Reading University in one of their early gigs as New Order. They did this and it was superb live
This song still give me chills. Brilliant and everlasting.
thanks for posting this :)
I got goose bumps listening to it, the video went wih it pretty well at time
I just watched your video and of course the most sublime song ever, 'Ceremony." I can relate I've had days like this....Your video is rather sublime. I added to my fav. Bye got to get back to my gum!
Brings me back old memories.... love this song!
I live there now and I love New Order, thanks.
A solid effort, and good on you for having the gumption to do this and share it with the world.
big love! this song is connected to so many memories! i need to cry! joy divisions music will hopefully never die!
One of the best Joy Division/ New Order records ever written. Thanks to Ian Curtis R.I.P.For bringing the sound of Manchester to us Southerners.
Girl. You hold on to that camera, that spirit and that passion...and that love of music..That is the best..... XO Thank You
Thanks.
I'm from Michigan. Did my undergrad there and spent many memorable nights in the Nectarine.
Ann Arbor is one of the best cities in the world.
my brother's friend made me a cd.. and it took me a while to figure who sang this song.. so glad i found it on youtube.. nice video!
Great tune, New Order were my fav band when I was 16-21 back in the day. Great video aswell. I live in Manchester now, and I walk past the Hacienda and wish it was still 'their' venue.
One of the last JD songs; and to my mind one of the most moving - just the spirit in it... Nice vid and best version of the song out there. I remember it took me ages to find a copy of the 7" back in the day... And then played it to death...
this video and bernard 's first vocal are great. the first new order song, last joy division song, crafted to be enjoyed often over an entire lifetime. this is quite a welcome to the magic world of new order, and an awfully wonderful reminder of ian.
5 years ago this video was brilliant , to say it has lasted the test of time is an understatement
your filming is awesome! wonderful atmosphere - fits the tone of the song - love the bare trees & the overcast sky - good job!!
Possibly, the greatest tune ever......awesome!
The first time I heard this, I thought that all music after, would tread this path......sadly not!
Thanks for the great post!
Nice video, been watching it for years. Thank u
This is so cool! I used to live in Ann Arbor and I love New Order. Brings back memories. Cheers! Thanks for posting :)
Amazing song, great job on the video! Can't believe you were only 12 when you made that. Pretty gifted, keep it up. The shot where the Michigan logo comes in is pretty sweet. Thank you for the video.
This continues to be the BEST video for this song on UA-cam. :)
Avenues all lined with trees! Nicely done.
saw them do this live 2 weeks after release. they were brilliant. Middlesbrough Rock Garden . jan-feb 1981.
Grew up with this in Manchester. Majestic.
this version is so fking awesome,I just can't describe that bass in words.. leaves me speechless
This is an excellent song for driving. Great job on the video :D
Said this before and I'll say it again well done young cuteex3 superb video and for me personally it goes brilliantly with one of my favourite New Order tunes.
ann arbor is a one of a kind town, with just the right amount of creativity and at home kind of feel, this song goes well with it
If you look into my info, I never comment on a video. I only watch on the sidelines. I was so enthralled with your video, cuteee, that I had to say, this is the best homemade video I've ever seen.Somehow, it made me feel as sad as the song is but I still want to visit Ann Arbor, MI. Great job!!
One of the last JD songs; and to my mind one of the most moving - just the spirit in it... Nice vid and best version of the song out there.
Best version, best video. Nailed it
