What a remarkably enlightening speaker Hitchens was..and is. I've listened at times over the past twenty years and I'm still surprised at his impact. In opposition CS Lewis noted that if Jesus was reduced to a great teacher only then he might also be reduced to someone who might consider himself a poached egg. Or some such drivel as that.
Thank you Christopher. I'm glad I found you years ago. You made the world a better and more thoughtful place because you were once here. I had no male role models growing up. But you filled the void for me as I got older. Thank you.
Christopher Hitchens confirmed that i was on the right track when everyone else around me, and i mean everyone, was telling me the opposite. He was so clear, so intelligent and obviously well read and educated that there was just no denying he was speaking the truth - in my mind, obviously not in everyone's. It's beyond my comprehension how anyone can hear him speak and not see that he was factual and concise - as opposed to the mythical vagueness of believers. Yes, so missed!
I encountered the same thing, I was told I’m working for the devil and now I can see why Hitchens said “it’s celestial dictatorship.” And when I point out evidence that the Bible is based off older mythology, they just ignore it and just live their life like how they already have
It's refreshing to hear someone of the monsignor's status in the Catholic church agree with Mr. Hitchens. I was force-fed religion as a child, and even forced to attend private christian schools starting in 7th grade, which I believe started my disillusionment with Christianity as a whole. In my 11th-12th grade years, I was presented with videoes whose message was "if you do not believe in Jesus, the savior, then you are going to hell" (paraphrase). The videos even had the audacity to say that anyone who believes in "eastern religions" (Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim etc) would have the same fate. I'm sorry, some of those religions gave existed for centuries before the story of Christ was introduced. Why should they be any less real than Christianity? As I got older, I learned about the council that was convened to approve which books should be included (and excluded) from the bible, in order to shape their narrative of Jesus. That really turned me off.
Please watch and share with others my five brief videos in which I present examples of scientific facts contained in the Bible, facts that the writers thousands of years ago could not have been aware of without divine knowledge given to them by Jesus Christ / The God of the Bible. And today's scientists agree with those facts!
I’ve listened to CH over the years, along with others similar, and I am happy to report my comprehension of his reports has increased. Just by my own ability to understand and or grasp the vocabulary. Thank you for the higher education.
It’s crazy to believe that sacrificing a human, a child, a son to atone for adults sins is acceptable. Basically that is what God did. People must be sick to the head to say this is OK.
Long before Hitchens wrote his first book, I thought about this very thing. To me, an indoctrinated catholic kid, it was all plain ridiculous for Jesus to die for what I did. Truth be told, when I went to confession I had nothing to confess beyond, maybe, talking back to my mother. I was always sentenced to 5 Mail Marys or something. Why was I punished if Jesus has already been executed for my sins. I laughed at the idea of god and religion from the time I was 11yrs old.
OK, I’ve watched part of the Madeline Marie O’Hare and part of the Christopher Hitchens piece and they keep showing material that repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats. These are garbage, and I’m not saying that because I think either of these people are not worth listening to, Just badly put together videos. In general, I love listening to Christopher Hitchens, he’s awesome
There is no ancient, mythological god that is real. There is certainly no deity worthy of unconditional worship by mankind. We simply cannot think up a deity worthy of worship. To think there is only one true deity (who happens to favor one small group of people) who loves (although there is no evidence of that love), is just (plenty of evidence to the contrary) and available (divine hiddenness proves otherwise) to all sentient beings in the billions of galaxies throughout the universe takes more imagination than any human possesses. Leave religion, folklore, fairy tales, mythology and superstition behind - join reality.
Why pray to a God that knows all. He knows you are going to heaven. He knows you don’t need to go to church. He knows All. So no need to teach anyone. Religion can be pulled out of schools. Money can go elsewhere. You welcome

@irwanlaksmono9421 Of course it was personal. Don't think for a second I was the only one 'they' spoke to that way. They're we're others that asked questions. I'm not the only Ex-Christian in this world.
Christopher Hitchens religious view is correct the Bible was wrote supposedly 150 years after this pose of Christ’s death, but it was wrote by man. It was described by man so therefore it was open to interpretation which intern coverups the whole ethos of religion because it was wrote by man, it was contrived by man. There was nothing divine about it, and as Hitchin said we’ve been on the planet for arguably 200,000 years, then 5000 years ago some omnipotent being arrived, and said, and in an illiterate part of the world
Jesus didn't die for our sins he died so a pathetic god could get over his temper tantrum, and jesus wasn't sacrificed he was murdered, if jesus knew he was going to die and was going to be reserected does hiding in a garden from roman soldiers and praying to a piece of trash for a different way sound like a sacrifice no, plus theres numerous other things for that argument

The Christian Trinity which is barely Biblical should be understood to symbolize the union of the Flavians and the Alexanders and the Pisos. The three Roman dynasties which created the parental deity religion now known as Christianity. Ever notice how the narrator of the writings attributed to Saul/Paul and those of Josephus have a psychological similarity? They both started out on one side and then converted to the other. They are both literary conversion personas. Epistolary Fiction was extremely popular in the ancient Greco-Roman world. As was Midrash in the ancient Jewish world. And Emperor Vespasian was a big believer in propaganda. If the Flavians were capable of creating something like the Roman Coliseum. Just think what they might be capable of had they wanted to create a new parental deity religion? Which the ancient world had been doing for quite a long time. When the Greeks conquered Kemet which they called Egypt. They created a hybrid parental deity in order to combine Egyptian mythology with Greek mythology. So they combined the Egyptian God Thoth with the Greek God Hermes. They called him Hermes Trismegistus III. Which means… “The Thrice Great.” He was famous for triumphing over the season of death. Which is what the number 3 almost always symbolizes in World Mythology. Isn't this what the Flavian Dynasty did after conquering the Jews? Didn't they create a new hybrid form of Greco-Roman Judaism? To integrate Jewish mythology with Greco-Roman mythology? Calling him… “Jesus The Christ.” Who is also famous for triumphing over the season of death. As represented by… “The Trinity.” Again the sacred number 3. Isn't this a better explanation for the origins of Christianity rather than Harry Houdini magic? Wasn't Paul secretly working for the Flavian Dynasty? Weren't all of the original Roman Catholic Saints' members of the Flavian Dynasty? Weren't all of the original symbols used by the earliest Christians identical to those of the Flavian Dynasty? And wasn't the earliest iconographic image of Jesus The Christ, in a catacomb, under the city of Rome, which was owned by a Flavian Princess? Weren't all of the original Jesus cult texts produced under the oversight of the Flavian Dynasty? Didn't the Flavian Dynasty posses the only remaining copy of the Hebrew Tanakh other than the Greek Septuagint translation? Isn't there Flavian typology in the Gospels? Weren't the canonical texts all back dated like the historical fiction of Gone With The Wind? Which was written in the 193O's but back-dated to the 185O's and 186O's. Wasn't Emperor Vespasian known as the Jewish Messiah? Wasn’t Pope Clement of Rome a Flavian? Wasn't Josephus a temple whore for the Flavian Dynasty? Just like Tacitus. Weren't the Flavian’s, as well as Paul, descended from King Herod? There was no separation of Church and State in the Roman Empire. And Christianity is clearly a Greco-Roman hybrid form of Judaism created by the Flavian Dynasty. As an attempt to adapt, pacify, and integrate the rebellious and defiant Jews into the rest of the Greco-Roman Empire. Just like the Greeks created Hermes Trismegistus III to integrate Egyptian mythology with Greek mythology. Then finally Neo-Flavian Constantine began the process to make the Flavian family religion to be the official religion of the entire Roman Empire. In order to consolidate power in his fractured Empire. As well as to generate revenue for his depleted treasury. And then Eusebius edited and rewrote the history of the previous 3OO years. Destroying all contradictory evidence. Such as all of the non-canonical Jesus cult texts. It isn't history it is all simply Greco-Roman mythopoetic literature. Today it is known as Historical Fiction. “What profit hath not this fable of Christ brought us.” Pope Leo X 💙
Thank you. Some of these ideas are obviously true, and then there are some that are dubious but interesting and worth looking into. Is there a place where this set of thoughts is elaborated better, with more details, with references to sources, and written without all the annoying questions?

Reason is a process of inquiry. Religion is an assertion that inquiry is no longer needed.
