    You are a wonderful storyteller. Not that what you are telling is fiction. You have an almost hypnotic voice that has me paying attention and not skipping ahead. I've listened to many channels and how you express sailing and your adventures with your husband is romantic. This may help my wife after watching and listening to your channel. Thank you.

    You guys are such great story tellers and speakers! Maya, you have no verbal tics and it is always a pleasure to listen to your tales. Thank you for sharing. Once the kids are through college, I will be supporting your channel with some $$.

    Thank you for watching everyone, and if you have questions about boatlife or there’s something we missed, leave a comment!! Boatlife does take a lot of work - especially if you’re young and have no money like we did - but it is possible. I got my first fixer upper sailboat for $1, and Aladino spent 4 years completely rebuilding the sailboat we currently sail on. It requires lots of dedication and education, but the rewards speak for themselves. And if you really loved this video, consider joining our patreon crew! It’s real people like you who help us make these videos, and we are SO thankful that you all exist ❤️ www.patreon.com/user?u=13249792

    Hi there, great episode and subject you cover here. Love the points about sailing you make but will disagree philosophically with one small point on a comment you make, that there is no option of boredom. As a lifelong sailor I would argue that there is and one will experiences all emotions! The beauty of living and sailing on a boat is that there is no escape, you WILL experience everything from boredom to sheer wonder, from fear to utter bliss. With life on land one can easily distract oneself out of a boring situation and thus to a degree effectively dull life's experiences . Sailing makes sure you experience it all to the fullest and the contrasts make the special moments that much more! Love the episodes and the storytelling. My best wishes to the both of you on your journeys ahead.

    • @SailingMagicCarpet
      @SailingMagicCarpet  5 років тому +6

      I love how you put this Peter! I absolutely agree that it’s possible to experience the full range of human emotions when you live on a boat. I suppose what I was getting at is how lucky I am to have time to pursue my passions - like reading, writing, and playing music. That’s why boredom is never present, because I have an ever present list of ‘things which matter to me’ that can occupy my time - time I never had in my busy shore based lifestyle! But what you said about contrasts is so very true, and I love how elegantly you expressed it. Thank you so much for writing 🐬

    Good points about anchors and anchoring including the amount of chain required. I have seen boats anchored with a far insufficient anchor and chain using rope to make up the depth difference.

    • @SailingMagicCarpet
      @SailingMagicCarpet  5 років тому

      Yes -- there's nothing like a good amount of chain as "insurance" for your boat!

    I understand xo I loved all the information you shared! Sailors sound like horse people! there are many ways to tie a horse, float a horse, which knot to use..haha but the standard old safety measures and techniques always end up the best.. thats how I roll.. I would love you to sail around Australia so I could meet you both..

    i sailed a 41 footer.. hours and hours of solitude and peaceful enjoyment with moments of intense stress punctuated by sheer terror.. I kept a large stash of 10 inch chocolate cookies and rewarded myself after challenges.. i loved it.. thanks for the memories.. and her soul is female, stern to bow, bottom of the keel to tip of the main mast..

    I really enjoyed this video and info. I look forward to watching more. One question , if a boat crashes into you, do you just get their insurance or what if they don’t have any, how does all that work if you know or heard.
    Thanks! Fair winds and following seas! ⛵️😎

    I just have a couple of questions I'm curious about.
    Is your boat big enough for you to sail from the Europe to Canada?
    And when the sea is throwing you all over the place would it be better for the person who is off shift and trying to sleep to be sleeping in a hammock positioned over your bed, rather than sleeping in your bed?

    • @SailingMagicCarpet
      @SailingMagicCarpet  5 років тому

      Hi Matthew,
      "big enough" is a very difficult question to answer. It really comes down to your skill level and what you're willing to put up with. Yes, Magic Carpet could make it to Canada. But it would require more careful planning and would be a bit more uncomfortable than doing it on a larger boat.
      About the hammock -- I can't speak from experience, there's no room for a hammock in Magic Carpet!

    Very good video, you guys should think about getting a Rainman portable water maker, we have one on our Dana 24, its powered by a small honda engine, this whole unit is very compact, easy to maintain, the honda engine is very fuel efficient, it makes 37 gph of fresh water, its so nice to get a hot or cold shower daily, one of the best investments we made.......
