  • As the years go by, I simplify my approach to fertilizing my lawn. The more I learn has taught me that it's really not as complicated as it's often made. If you think about it, you're likely doing too much to fertilize your lawn as well. In this video, I make a case against Milorganite and the use of other biosolid fertilizers. I also explain why performing soil tests for grass aren't all they're cracked up to be. I continue to fine-tune my practices to keep them as safe and inexpensive as possible. I share with you which direction I'm going this season.

After seeing dr shaddox on the grass factor pod last year, it has changed my way of approaching caring for my lawn completely. I will be spraying straight urea this year at $28 for a $50lb bag of 46-0-0 from my local co-op. A massive savings compared to what I was previously buying. I really don’t plan on doing much more outside of pre-emergent, water and mowing. I’m excited to see how it turns out, seems like nitrogen is almost all we need these days, and from the studies on slow release nitrogen, it seems like maybe its almost a complete lie compared to straight urea or AMS.

All I know is what works! I have had spotty Saint Augustine for years, weeds intermixed with some centipede. Around 2017 I found Milorganite and dumped it on, in way heavy doses, double what the bag says, twice a year. I don not care where the "crap" comes from.... Within one year, half of the weeds were choked out from the S.A. I continued to add at ridiculous rates only to see my grass grow like crazy. My soil is incredibly rich and I have never had to add potash. I have an elderly neighbor down the street who marvels at my lawn in the dead of July and cannot for the life of him figure out what else I'm doing. He just does not believe all I do is drown it in milorganite. I am not being hyperbolic, it is truly a flawless lawn, You would be hard pressed to find a weed. By the way I live in Deep East Texas.... Lots of rain.

Last year, I decided to do a soil test, thinking maybe there was something I was missing in my yard maintenance routine. Despite my lawn being consistently beautiful, often referred to as the "golf course lawn" in our little city, I still wanted to ensure I was doing everything right. I put in the effort to keep the weeds at bay and maintain lush, green grass. However, the soil test didn't seem to provide any significant insights. As for your videos, I've noticed you tend to release them on Sundays. With all the other subscriptions I have, I often find myself searching for yours amidst the content clutter. Nonetheless, I appreciate the quality of your content and generally find value in what you have to share.

I live in Milw. WI Milorganite is dirt cheap ! Bought on sale, $10 a bag ! Been using it for years and always happy. But REMEMBER ! All it's gonna do is make your lawn a little greener ! Maybe a little extra growth. Does not prevent weeds ! Can be entertaining though, folks walking dogs, dogs like to roll in it !🤣

This is not aimed at Budget Lawns because I think he might agree with this in a certain sense, but I don't really take lawn care advice from UA-camrs. I see all kinds of wacky stuff out there, and it's almost always people selling something. And they never live where I do, which makes a big difference.
I like Budget Lawns because I like cost savings.
I follow the advice of the state university extension offices. It's free and tailored to my state.
That goes for the gardens, too. Right now I'm stressed about having to have the invasive species tree in my front yard removed.

Yeah, it’s definitely growing legs in lawn care. If I’m not mistaken, it’s simply urea and water. I don’t see myself using it as it’s not produced for such a purpose. Hey, thanks for watching and subscribing. Glad you’re enjoying it. Based on the info provided in the video, I would not apply both. Milo used to be worth it back when the price was lower but now the benefit to cost ratio doesn’t make sense. The only time I’d consider using this is if I’m doing a pre germination seeding and even then now I’d probably use like a granular humic instead of milo. Great video!
