Last year I was dealing with soil compaction at one of the corners in my property. After it rained I went out with a manuel aerator and punch a few holes. I then went to my local fishing shop and bought some worms and I went home and dumped them over that one spot. Over time, grass started filling in that area. Today, that area is thick and lush.
Weed picking is a great chore for the kids and grandkids. When my kids were growing up it was great bonding time going out there together and pulling weeds 😊
New subscriber here, we've had this small 400 sq ft of grass in our front yard that I've never quite been able to get it to look "good," like I'd like it to. Realized after watching several of your videos this week that I've been doing a LOT of things wrong like watering evwn twice a day in these hot Az summers (gulp!). Thank you for your entertaining & informative tips. The elk & rabbits are my lawn mowers lol, I've honestly don't even own a lawn mower. I'm putting in new seed this month but can't decide between manually watering or getting sprinklers installed.
Awesome. Glad to have you here. Thank you for subbing. Happy to hear you're getting some useful information. If there's ever anything I can do to help, don't hesitate to let me know. Have a great weekend.
@@BudgetLawns do you do private consultations where I could pay you for your advice? Grass has been outlawed n our little town for 30+ years. Water restrictions were just lifted but there is literally no grass in this town and no lawn care guys to consult. I have a lot of questions and I would be happy to pay you for advice
I don’t, but I’m always happy to help here and answer any questions I can. Within reason of course. People have left Super Thanks donations here on UA-cam from time to time. But certainly not asked for or required. I’m just a DIY homeowner. Not a formally trained turf professional. I couldn’t get into consultations and pretend to be more than I really am. I wouldn’t feel good about it. What I share here on UA-cam is just from my personal experiences and study. Hope you understand. Thank you.
@@BudgetLawns THANK YOU! Question: I'm starting over & planting new seed Monday. How do I transition from watering 6xday (when they are seeds) to watering every few days? Like at what point is the new grass mature enough to not get watered daily?
You just want to focus on keeping it moist, not saturated. While it’s still thin, you’ll be watering more to keep the soil from drying out. The thicker it gets, the more moisture the soil will hold.
Another great video Travis. I am mowing every other day now (Tifway 419) because here in DFW we have had lots of rain and warmer temps. I will add PGR in a week or two. Maybe turn on the irrigation in another 2 or 3 weeks. And either ammonium sulfate or urea, thanks to Dr Shaddox. No Super Juice. No PGF Complete. No Stress Blend. No Compaction Cure Combo. No Humichar.
Thank ya, sir. Appreciate you very much. Always enjoy your updates about what's going on in your lawn. What you share is always helpful to other folks as well! 👊👊
Great video, Travis. Love the bracelet. I’m having to use a lawn care service and have a mowing service this year (knee surgery) and it’s so tough for me. I will take solace in watching your videos knowing I’m getting back in the game for 2025! 😂
Bummer. So sorry to hear that. I hope you’re doing ok and everything goes well in a full recovery. Thank you. Daughter made me that for my birthday. Hasn’t left my wrist for 2 months since. Appreciate you still supporting the channel great to hear from you.
Thank you for your video I appreciate you! I mow my yard every other day.. I’ mulch.. I edge my yard every time I mow the issue I have is each neighbor on each side of me has a ton of weeds although I’m out in the yard quite a bit. I handpick the weeds because I don’t let them get to the point where I have to water them to pull them out… I am always baffled by people don’t take care of their yards because I’ve always said if your yard looks like crap you’re inside of your house probably looks like crap. That’s the first impression people see.! For myself, I don’t mind hard work at all and I’ll be 64 years old in May. It’s what keeps me young.! Lol😂
You got that right. For a positive spin on neighbors' bad looking yards...just makes yours look that much better 😂. Appreciate you watching and sharing your experiences. 👍
Another great video with really good suggestions. Question for you…do you suggests using biochar or humic acid on my super hard Arkansas clay soil. In June I’m going to aerate and level my yard with top soil sand mix. I was thinking to add some biochar before leveling to help with soil condition. What is your thoughts?
I’d save my money. That’s just me though. Haven’t seen a whole lot outside of sales pitches that make it sound worth it. Thanks bud! Have a great weekend!
Hello how are you I got a question for you I bought a manufactured home last year do people in the park have planted grass seed I have no idea what kind of grass seed it is this year I'm loaded with weeds louder brown spots I'm getting ready to cut it and then I figured out spray it with weed and feed is that a good idea
You need to find out what your grass type is. The weed products you use will need to be safe for it. See if this video helps. ua-cam.com/video/F4Lc_7d3Z2Q/v-deo.htmlsi=k1bMnT0B6uGa4wO- Thanks for watching.
Snatch that Poa out and toss a lil seed /fert in after you add soil, believe me , its the best way lol..Fescue /Texas Bluegrass in my lawn so I def get it!! Lime green sucks in a dark lawn..GL
I did bag my 1st 2 mows last week. 1st bcuz of weeds here and there , 2nd bcuz of excessive rain & it grew to almost 8" in a 5 day period. Had to cut at 4.5" now 3 days later today, Ill try to go 3.5". The 150 bags of mulch are out & ready but this lawn is on fire lol...
I use the max rate on the label. I think it's somewhere around 6.5 oz of concentrate per gallon of water. In my 2 gallon pump sprayer, I'll mix about 13 oz/2 gallons. Thanks for watching.
My reaction to the tips: 1. I am planning to mow more and I was thinking about it a few days ago but good tip. 2. I should do this because THERE IS WEED IN BETWEEN THE BRICKS THAT MY PATIO IS MADE OF. 3. Yeah this makes sense. 4. I am not going to do mulching until I can buy a house.
I don’t blame ya one bit. There are certainly exceptions. I would do the same thing. Appreciate ya as always bud. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👊👊

Funny that you mention weed picking. I have quite a lot of Poa which i am hand picking, an hour a night... Thank goodness for shallow roots!
It's amazing the huge difference picking just a few weeds here and there will make. Thanks so much as always!

Same here, snatch it , replace soil , lil seed/fert ...you can re-seed small areas and rid lawn of that pesky lime colored junk
I used a Fiskars weed picker last year. Pulls the roots and works great.

Hi where do you get ammonium sulfate? What type do you get. I've seen the university extensions talk about it but never suggest where to get it

Once this poa anua chills out I'll definitely mulch more. Can't focus on landscape as much as I'd like as I need a retaining wall.
