    • @wheard71
      @wheard71  2 роки тому

      Great question. If I could pick four, here's what they would be: Oilcan Newport (because this was my first Scotty), 2008 Buttonback, Mil Spec in 34/340g (because that's the size I game, 350g is a more popular choice), Classic 1. That being said there are no wrong answers. There are a couple honorable mentions in my collection but only because of their quirkiness. I have a 34/340 Newport Beach and a 34/340 Studio Style Newport, both finds in Japan. Not terribly valuable, but I think they're pretty cool. Good luck on finding your Newports!

      The *Special Select* Newport is the 2020/2021 Model.
      *Select* is the actual Name of the Line of Putters, the variation of the *Select* designation determines the Vintage and Evolution of design.
      *Newport, Newport 2, Newport 2.5, and the other Names* indicate the Head Shape and the Neck (Shaft Attachment to the Head) of the *SELECT* Putters.
      Scotty now uses the *Phantom* Name for his Mallet Lineup. Each *Phantom* has a Number Designation to differentiate the Different Models.

      Hi Liam, Great question. I sent it to the Custom Shop to have it repainted. Repainting is also an easy DIY project if you have the time. You can remove the existing paint with acetone (nail polish remover) and a toothpick. Then just find your favorite color of Testors model paint and you're all set. I think there are some other videos of painting golf clubs on UA-cam. I am by no means an expert. Hope this helps!

      Great question. Scotty worked for Ray Cook in the late 80's and is credited with designing the Blue Goose putter which was the first mass produced milled putter (meaning it started from a block of steel, not a casting with a milled face). It was inspired by Scotty's appreciation of TP Mills putters. This bit of info came from my copy of The Art of Putters by Bill Vogeney.

    I have a stainless and becu anser 2 and a 98 newport 2 ( identical to Tigers famous gamer, minus the platinum )/ Obviously, the scotty feels the best and yes, distance control in general is better with the scotty. The biggest difference is the toe hang. The pings are more 40 degree-ish, the scotty, surprisingly is about 25 degrees ( more face balanced ). So yes the shaft, due to the neck position is actually more towards the center. I would be interested to see a video about toe hangs between anser/newports and anser 2/newport 2's

      Great question. Ideally you should have a pro look at your putter swing and tell you which style fits your stroke best. However, back when I selected a Newport as my putter 20 years ago, I did not do this. Instead I spent an hour or so at the Golf Galaxy putting green trying out several different shapes to see which one looked and felt best to me. Your putter setup - head shape, length, grip - should give you a feeling of confidence at address. Hope this helps!

      Hello and thanks for your question. There has been some dislike of the insert Selects from the past four years from many in the Cameron community, and we were all waiting for the next non-insert OTR. With the Special Selects we got what we asked for in my opinion. I have had many of them in my possession and have rolled them a lot. I can say that if I wasn't stuck on my tour rat that I have been gaming for the past 8 years, the Special Newport would be in my bag. The movement of the weight makes a big difference and the symmetry of early Newports is finally back. Shameless plug: if you are in the market for a Newport or Newport 2, please check out my website customscottys.com where you can get a competitively priced, brand new, custom shop painted Special Select. I have been out of stock for the past couple months for obvious reasons, but I have a huge order placed and will be back up and running soon!

      @@georgekyriazi Great question. The one you see that is less than retail does not include a grip or a headcover. It's a choose your own adventure kind of a deal. If you want to go full Custom Shop with a CS grip and CS cover, you can do that. If you have a non-Scotty grip you like to use, then don't pay extra for a Scotty one to come on your putter just to cut it off and throw it away. Whatever you don't want, I can sell which saves you money. Make sense?

    • @wheard71
      @wheard71  3 роки тому

      First off, thanks for watching my video. This is an excellent question. Let me start by saying this is 100% a matter of personal preference. Now I will tell you my personal preference :-). I have been gaming Newports since 2003 when I started in the Cameron hobby. For the past 9 years I've been gaming the deep milled Tour Rat that I show briefly in this video. About a month ago I threw a Special Select Newport in the bag to try it out. I have to say that for some reason I have been putting better with the Special Select Newport. The only thing that makes sense is the change in weighting. The new Specials weigh 283g empty versus 320g empty for my rat. Scotty did this to move more weight (37grams to be exact) to the heel and toe for more stability. This is why a 2018 Select Newport at 350g has two 15g weights in it and a Special at 350g has two 35g weights. I can also say that the Special Select Newport is as close as Scotty has come to the 009 head shape in an OTR (straight shoulders, wide cavity, flat-ish top, tri-sole. I touch on this near the end of the video.
      All this being said, I cannot fault you for choosing any of these three putters - they are all works of art. Good luck with your purchase!

      Firstly, this is probably the 3rd time I’ve watched your video, so thank you for making it!
      Which ever one I get, I am going to get it customised.
      If I get the tei3 or studio style, I may get weights added to the bottom the same as the 2020 Newport has. My local putter specialist can do this at the same time as changing my line up lines, he says he has done this before to other customers with no adverse effects. I do want the slightly heavier feel for sure, not too floaty and light.
      I know the modern Newport is the simple choice, but I love the idea of creating my own unique, slightly modernised version, of one of the insert classics.
      What do you think of that? And if you had to choose between tei3 and studio style, which would you go and why? To me the tei3 has a certain wow factor, but the GSS face in the studio style is special too.
      Thank you for your time sir!

      @@wheard71 and with keeping overall weight close to Identical and being able to move an extra 20 grams to both the Heel and Toe, Scotty has increased the MOI, essentially making the *Special Select* more like a Mallet.

    • @wheard71
      @wheard71  4 роки тому +2

      Good question. It looks like Scotty first made the Santa Fe in 1996 in the second year of the "Classics" line, again in 1997 when a Santa Fe joined the Teryllium line, in 1998 there was another Teryllium Santa Fe and an Oil Can version was added. The Oil Can version lasted for two years, but the Teryllium stuck around through 2001. That was the end of the Santa Fe name. Beginning in 2004, this head style was dubbed the Newport 1.5. Check out the putter archive at scottcameron.com for great pics of each of these models (www.scottycameron.com/putter-archive/). The santa fe is a cool old-school putter. A great one to keep in the collection forever, especially if it's a teryllium.
