This is my first time here on your channel, and I am in awe of what you are doing. It really is the dream, i remember when i started cosplay, i thought, what exactly i like about it? I realized that I love making things, investigate, and try to achieve working tools, just like in media, i am inspired by. But so far, I only made Pyro's Flamethrower with soap bubbles instead of fire coming outta it. I couldn't get back to craft for a few years and decided to change it all this year around. I am looking at your content right now and realizing - this, this is what I wanna do. I'm so happy I saw your video in my recommendations.
Wow, it means so much to hear that this video could have an impact beyond 8 minutes of entertainment. I really encourage you to chase those dreams! You may surprise yourself with what you can accomplish!
DAaaaaam. Im just.. amazed! Im a big fun of the show and the air nomads so even just seeing this was just a dream came true dude. Plus its really uplifting to watch someone believing in something almost impossible This calmcly AND actually making it as well. Big up!
This is amazing! I absolutely adore the details and patterns you added to the glider,in the animation you need to cut down on the details so its easier to animate but I think it makes sense that the air nomads would dekorate Their gliders like that,it feels very grunded and realistic and not to mention beutifull!
I'm so glad you liked the extra artistic detail. It made it feel more grounded for me too, since directly translating the simple color scheme from a small cartoon screen to a big real life glider just felt unrealistic somehow. Thanks for your tip on the animations too. I'm still growing as an editor, and feedback like yours really helps.
I haven't seen the live action yet either. Avatar is so precious to me that I'm afraid I might not like it. I'll man up and watch some time soon though! XD
does it also work? as you are a firebender instead of a airbender might be expected you don't actually fly with it(as wood and fabric often are pretty flameable, and ofcource without airbending it would be harder). but it would be usefull to know some basic functionality, as you mentioned no compromise, perhaps you also thought about it's use. for example is it useable for catching notable amounts of wind and keeping up with it, to for example use it for surfing as we see aang do in the show(and this became a actual sport but they use inflatable gliders more based upon depowerkites in how they work). next to that can it keep up with such and for example be used to make wind. kind of basic uses, so even when not used for flight it still might be usable for many other things. if strength is a issue you might look at superelastic NiTiNol is light, and almost unbreakable as long as not to cold is rigid like steel but instantly bends back to it's previous shape, and unlike spring steel NiTiNol is much more flexible and doesn't degrade as fast as well as chem resitant and much lighter than spring steel. perhaps other things might also work like carbonfiber or glassfiber. but perhaps your current setup is already strong enough, using the right kinds of wood, bambu or comparable materials, especially when treated in the right way can result in it being strong enough and super thin already.
This was so clever! Also you have a presentation as though the folks on This Old House or some woodworking themed PBS show decided to cross over with fandom and Im kinda living for it
I wonder if this could be used as a bo staff. That would make the perfect blend between real martial arts and literal art, one of the closest things to bending we can do
Probably not. The hollow areas would make this extremely fragile. Even Aang says his staff is supposed to be fragile, even though he abuses it pretty hard.
There is compromise involved in most of these projects, which you didn't do to your own fault, resulting in an item that needs to be set down on the ground to be assembled. As nice as it looks, function is lacking on the mechanical side of things as well as usability side of things. Esthetically speaking, I'm sure many will love this piece. I also appreciate how you walked us through the build in a way that was easy to understand and engaging to watch. Overall, i give it a B+ It's definitely something I'd hang in my living room. it's very nice and a very well-made video, sir.
Wow like how you improved on all the earlier designs! I made one of the staffs you showed at the start of the video and I’m really impressed on how you made this!

i just made my own staff recently! very basic just a long piece of jarrah with 4 triangles to represent the glider compartment or whatever you call it. Ive still got work to do on it but this has given me hope of adding my own glider to it! You have definitely earned a sub!

I imagine there is a wood in the Avatar universe, the has the spring retention of a springsteel, while not weakening as you cut it thinner.
From there, you could take a branch of a tree, cut it down to shape, and use springiness of the wood, to be the mechanism, that pops the wings open.
Then, you would just need a system to secure the wings into the folded position, and could use a button of somekind, as the release and catch mechanism.
