    This is my first time here on your channel, and I am in awe of what you are doing. It really is the dream, i remember when i started cosplay, i thought, what exactly i like about it? I realized that I love making things, investigate, and try to achieve working tools, just like in media, i am inspired by. But so far, I only made Pyro's Flamethrower with soap bubbles instead of fire coming outta it. I couldn't get back to craft for a few years and decided to change it all this year around. I am looking at your content right now and realizing - this, this is what I wanna do. I'm so happy I saw your video in my recommendations.

    This is amazing! I absolutely adore the details and patterns you added to the glider,in the animation you need to cut down on the details so its easier to animate but I think it makes sense that the air nomads would dekorate Their gliders like that,it feels very grunded and realistic and not to mention beutifull!

    • @ingeniusdesigns
      @ingeniusdesigns  10 місяців тому +1

      I'm so glad you liked the extra artistic detail. It made it feel more grounded for me too, since directly translating the simple color scheme from a small cartoon screen to a big real life glider just felt unrealistic somehow.
      Thanks for your tip on the animations too. I'm still growing as an editor, and feedback like yours really helps.

    does it also work?
    as you are a firebender instead of a airbender might be expected you don't actually fly with it(as wood and fabric often are pretty flameable, and ofcource without airbending it would be harder).
    but it would be usefull to know some basic functionality, as you mentioned no compromise, perhaps you also thought about it's use.
    for example is it useable for catching notable amounts of wind and keeping up with it, to for example use it for surfing as we see aang do in the show(and this became a actual sport but they use inflatable gliders more based upon depowerkites in how they work).
    next to that can it keep up with such and for example be used to make wind. kind of basic uses, so even when not used for flight it still might be usable for many other things.
    if strength is a issue you might look at superelastic NiTiNol is light, and almost unbreakable as long as not to cold is rigid like steel but instantly bends back to it's previous shape, and unlike spring steel NiTiNol is much more flexible and doesn't degrade as fast as well as chem resitant and much lighter than spring steel. perhaps other things might also work like carbonfiber or glassfiber. but perhaps your current setup is already strong enough, using the right kinds of wood, bambu or comparable materials, especially when treated in the right way can result in it being strong enough and super thin already.

    • @andrewli6606
      @andrewli6606 10 місяців тому +3

    There is compromise involved in most of these projects, which you didn't do to your own fault, resulting in an item that needs to be set down on the ground to be assembled.
    As nice as it looks, function is lacking on the mechanical side of things as well as usability side of things.
    Esthetically speaking, I'm sure many will love this piece. I also appreciate how you walked us through the build in a way that was easy to understand and engaging to watch.
    Overall, i give it a B+

      Having a spinning rod in the center, to "wind" up the wing fabric would help with containment, and spring-loading the rod so it always pulls inward, while making the poles of the wings lock into place when fully extended could work, you just couldn't smack it against the ground to extend. (but you could tap it against the ground to retract)
      Also this project is years old he just reposted it to take advantage of the live action interest.

      You're not wrong! But I've also grown a lot as a video editor since I made the original videos, and I've felt for a while that this project deserved something better. And of course with the live action hype, this seemed like the right time!

      Thank you so much! I really like your spring mechanism idea. Maybe spring steel like a bow? You're definitely making me want to try this again! As for selling them, I don't think I could offer a reasonable price at the moment, since the project took me a couple of months, but your interest is a huge compliment all on its own!

    As beautiful as the glider turned out, I could imagine that the air gliders weren't decorated at all as decorations have a feeling of materialism and attachment to them.

    • @ingeniusdesigns
      @ingeniusdesigns  10 місяців тому

    What about utilizing opposing winding springs, like they use in watches/clocks, hidden in the square block that would deploy and retract the wings of the glider?

    I imagine there is a wood in the Avatar universe, the has the spring retention of a springsteel, while not weakening as you cut it thinner.
    From there, you could take a branch of a tree, cut it down to shape, and use springiness of the wood, to be the mechanism, that pops the wings open.
    Then, you would just need a system to secure the wings into the folded position, and could use a button of somekind, as the release and catch mechanism.

    • @ingeniusdesigns
      @ingeniusdesigns  10 місяців тому

      That's a good idea. Plus, I don't think spring steel itself is off the table. Spring steel has been around since as early as the middle ages, while Avatar seems to have access to early industrial revolution level technology and metallurgy.

    why not use a mainspring, like a watch spring that turns the center rod instead of having to roll the ball until it closes, that way there is always tension on the fabric and you save time opening and closing it, and the locks will still be useful
