Another fact! After the nuns and Patrick's mum is singing. "Patrick darling" one of the boys is miming her words. Look closely. He's in the back just row to the right of the screen.
Hey guys. I've been such a fan of this movie since it first come out when I was 7 years old and still love it. Here in England we call it the News boys. We've not had it on broad way for us West end. I always dreamed it would. But from what I can see the Broadway has made its own version. My question is! How different is it? Will I be disappointed if I watch it?

I understand why. It's because Patrick is not a character we know, so it seems random for some stranger to appear, looking for a kid we don't know, then leave and never come back for the rest of the show. That being said, it is still a SIN to remove her solo. It gives a hint of sadness to the song, with the realization that some newsies were runaways.
@@barbaro267 "It gives a hint of sadness to the song, with the realization that some newsies were runaways." Oh damn, now the mother's solo makes more sense!
This musical is my all-time FAVORITE one...The choreography is really good, and the music is so uplifting that it just makes you want to get up and start dancing!!
they changed the lyrics...i just saw the bway version at a local theater, when i was in elementary school we sang a bunch of songs from the newsies, i felt sad they were different!!!! but both are awesome - esp the dancing
I used to love the Broadway version, but after seeing the movie a few times, I realized that I love the movie WAYYY better. Notice how in the movie, the newsies are kids and teens, like how they were in the actual 1899 newsboy strike. But on Broadway, they’re played by young men, AKA adults. That’s one thing about the Broadway version that annoys me. The movie feels way more accurate to me and way more real.
Patrick may be Racetrack, since historically, Racetrack was a real newsie during the strike of 1899, and his name was Patrick Higgins (even though a lot of people think it's Anthony)... that could be his mother! I think in the musical version, Finch is also supposedly named Patrick (good thing they have nicknames or else there would be like 7 Patricks)! So maybe it's Finch's mom.
I'm 32 yet I knew this film from a very very young age thanks to my mum. When I knew it it was not as big as it is now. Same with Les misarables, Martin gyre and so many more.
I agree! I had never heard that part before, but now that I have I can't not hear it. It gives me chills every time and I keep hoping that she finds her son in the end... But I guess that's what they call an open ending.
I feel like there's another angle to it though: what if she's actually a bit unstable and he decided to run away from home to get away from her, but she was so attached to him, she freaked out? It is a possibility; it happened a lot back then. This is just my theory.
CaptHayfever That's the beauty of it though. From just these lyrics you know her son ran away from home and she is grief-stricken. It adds a sad beauty to the song.

why are they so mean to that little boy that says " how about a crooked politician?" he was so proud of his idea too...but did he deserve being called stupid with so much Brooklyn RAGE LOL
I'm pretty sure that Patrick is Spot because Spot's real name is Sean Patrick Conlon, and sometimes people get called by their middle names, so my theory is that he ran away to brooklyn so she couldn't find him and then he wound up being the leader. Idk but that's what i think :/
the missing line are the parts where they talk. like crutchie talking about the fake limbers and how the other people think that he might be a faker too.
Can someone please explain to me - the lady that sings after the nuns, is she a mother whose son ran away? I don’t understand why she’s singing what she’s singing, especially since I always thought she was / mistook her for a nun..
you know they made Les Miserables:The Musical Phenomenon yeah they should make NEWSIES:The Musical Experience but the stage version of the show not the movie but the movie's cool though.
i love how everyone is commenting on how they fell in love with spot and i am over in my corner laughing cuz i like a background character named Bumlets.
When you see the movie and its amazing so you thing the musical on Broadway will also be really good but then you watch it and it isn't even remotely what you think.

🎵Try Bottle Alley or the harbor
Try Central Park it's guaranteed
Try any bank or bum or barber
They almost all knows how to read!
I smell money
You smell foul
Met this girl last night
Move your elbow
Pass the towel
For a buck I might
Ain't it a fine life
Carrying the banner through it all
A mighty fine life, carrying the banner tough and tall
Every morning, we goes where we wishes
Wes as free as fishes
Sure beats washing dishes
What a fine life, carrying the banner home-free all
It takes a smile as sweet as butter
The kind that ladies can't resist
It takes an orphan with a stutter
Who ain't afraid to use his fist
Summer stinks and winters waiting
Welcome to New York
Boy ain't nature fascinating
When yous gotta walk
So it's a fine life carrying the banner with me chums
Its a fine life carrying the banner with me chums
A mighty fine life, blowing every nickel as it falls
A mighty fine life, blowing every nickel as it falls
I'm no snoozer
Sitting makes me ancy
I likes living chancy
Harlem to Delancey
What a fine life
Carrying the banner through the slums
Blessed children
Though you wander lost and depraved
Jesus loves you, you shall be safe
Patrick? (Just gimme half a cup)
Darling? (Something to wake me up)
Since you left me I am undone (I gotta find an angle, I gotta sell more papers)
Mother loves you, god save my son (Papers is all I got, Wish I could catch a breeze, Sure hope the headline's hot, All I can catch is fleas, God help me if it's not
Somebody help me, please)
If I hate the headlines
I'll make up the headline
And I'll say anything I have to
'Cause at two for a penny
If I take too many
Weasel just makes me eat 'em after
Look! They're puttin' up the headline (What's it say?)
You call that a headline (That won't pay)
I get better stories from the copper on the beat (So where's your spot?)
I was gonna start at twenty (God, it's hot)
Now a dozen will be plenty (Will ya tell me)
How I'm gonna make ends meet
We need a good assassination
We need an earthquake or a war
How about a crooked politician?
Hey stupid, that ain't news no more
Uptown to Grand Central Station
Down to City Hall
We improves our circulation
Walking 'til we fall
Still we'll be out there (Look, they're putting up the headline)
Carrying the banner man to man! (They call that a headline? The idiot who wrote it must be working for the Sun!)
We'll be out there (Did you hear about the fire? Heard it killed old man Maguire!)
Soaking every sucker that we can! (Heard the toll was even higher. Why do I miss all the fun?)
See the headline:
Newsies on a mission!
Kill the competition
Sell the next edition
While we're out there
Carrying the banner is the...
It's a fine life (They call that a headline?)
Carrying the banner through it all (I get better stories from the copper on the beat.)
A mighty fine life (I was gonna start with twenty, but a dozen will be plenty.)
Carrying the banner tough and tall (Would you tell me how I'm ever gonna make ends meet?)
See the headline
Newsies on a mission
Kill the competition
Sell the next edition
What a fine life
Carrying the banner
It's a fine life (Go get 'em, cowboy)
Carrying the banner
It's a fine life (Go get 'em, cowboy)
Carrying the banner
It's a fine life (Go get 'em, cowboy)
Carrying the banner
It's a fine life (Go get 'em, cowboy)
Carrying the banner
It's a...Go!🎵
same with me when we sang it in chorus! I still love it 4 years later haha
NO! I absolutely love that part. :)
am i the only one who LIVES for mushs little parts? like they're so cute!
Yeh! Carryin' the banner!
this movie is cool to wacht
Love this song
ME TOO! YAY FOR THE NEWSIES!!!:D
Great song choice!
1:00 My favorite part:
"I smell money!"
"You smell foul!"
Justice for Patrick's mom!
why are they so mean to that little boy that says " how about a crooked politician?" he was so proud of his idea too...but did he deserve being called stupid with so much Brooklyn RAGE LOL
Jesus and Disneyland , Nice combo...
Leela Debris during this time, all politicians were crooked, corrupt, whatever you might call it
I think it's because they need some better news. Talking about politicians is "old news".
Leela Debris Corrupt politicians were as common in America as rice is in China.
Because its not mean to the New York streets kids of the 1890s. Frankly kids these days need to toughen up for the world out there imo.
Crutchie is fire! 🤣
Lady that sings mom part and the nuns part were great at singing.
who else prefers this to the broadway production
i totally agree!
Alright but who is Patrick? is it one of the newsies real name? WHO TF IS PATRICK AND WHY IS HE IMPORTANT?
Lol me
Bethany Zamora There’s a theory that Spot Conlon’s real name is Patrick and he ran away.
I'm pretty sure that Patrick is Spot because Spot's real name is Sean Patrick Conlon, and sometimes people get called by their middle names, so my theory is that he ran away to brooklyn so she couldn't find him and then he wound up being the leader. Idk but that's what i think :/
Tag yourself, I'm depressed as racers "that's my cigar"
1:44 - 1:58 should NOT have been taken out of the movie
I LOVE THIS MUSICAL! And i like the broadway too I'm trying to talk my choir teacher into doing one of these songs!
Last year I was in chamber singers and we had solos and mine was “ Who ain’t afraid to use his FIST!” It was amazing amazing on stage tho
This is not the original recording from the Disney movie, this recording has plenty of missing lines.
the missing line are the parts where they talk. like crutchie talking about the fake limbers and how the other people think that he might be a faker too.
Sydneys Life they cut out the talking parts
They also cut out the Delancey fight.
92sies Crutchy is a meme lord, we should all be able to agree on that.
No I didn't spell it wrong, it's spelled differently than musical here
it sounds so weird without the background sounds, like people shouting and stuff
The only thing I like about this musical is the Patrick's mom bit. And that's about it.
Bluffton pirate marching band played this still like it
2019
Who has the best voice with the fewest lines? What's his name, the one who says "They almost all knows how to read"?
It was skittery
@@elisebruinsma9375 Thanks 👍
anyone else here after trying to listen to the broadway version?
haha I think newsies is eternal .. t least for me lol :)
I think it's a fine line
We watched this in my band class
This is gonna take a while to learn them lyrics lol ;-;
Why won't someone remix this?! Its so good!
In dance I did a combo at 3:50
good
Please re upload missing tracks to this newsies soundtrack.
Is it just me, or is Races voice so much louder then everyone else's in this?
Especially with headphones on.
Can someone please explain to me - the lady that sings after the nuns, is she a mother whose son ran away? I don’t understand why she’s singing what she’s singing, especially since I always thought she was / mistook her for a nun..
she's looking among the newsies to find her son who ran away, since the newsies are often runways. she's not important to the plot
you know they made Les Miserables:The Musical Phenomenon yeah they should make NEWSIES:The Musical Experience but the stage version of the show not the movie but the movie's cool though.
They're making one now! They filmed a performance with most of the original cast, and it's going to theatres in 2017!
i love how everyone is commenting on how they fell in love with spot and i am over in my corner laughing cuz i like a background character named Bumlets.
Nah man, I'd take Skittery over Bumlets or Spot any day. Though judging by the fact that he's your profile pic I can't sway you 😂
@@alyssachantaychampagne2773 bumlets is adorible and kind and i love him. but i will say that skittery is an amazing character.
@letmehaveachannelnig fuck yeah it is Bro!!!
49 people did not carry the banner
When you see the movie and its amazing so you thing the musical on Broadway will also be really good but then you watch it and it isn't even remotely what you think.
No way the broadway one is amazing too
100th comment!🔥
She Patrick's mom sings I just about SHIVER !!!
Well we have quite a few : /
