Y'know, before I first listened to this, I don't think I ever quite expected it to be rockabilly. Clearly, Elton John is singing about wanting to be Elvis Presley.
Did anyone else notice that one of lines in this song ("The time has come as someone said To talk of many things May be true But I would rather stick to talking kings") is a paraphrase of a verse from Lewis Carrol's narrative poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter" is a narrative poem by Lewis Carroll that appeared in his 1871 novel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There ("The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: Of shoes-and ships-and sealing-wax- Of cabbages-and kings- And why the sea is boiling hot- And whether pigs have wings.") ? Got to hand it to Tim Rice, he really showed his work with thosw lyrics! 😃👍

Great cover/alternate version and has some classic Elton John charm. Truly a great example of how "Less is More" (it's got less instruments and is less complex but just as good).
Just so you know, it was one of the extra songs on the soundtrack CD from the movie. And if you don't recognize his style and his voice here, don't pretend to know his stuff.

I feel like Elton John tapping my fingers as if I am playing the piano singing along with him! No one saying do this. No one saying be there. No one saying stop that. No one saying see here! Free to run around all day! I'll be free to do it all my way!
Love this. In the 'piano solo' , me and my brother always picture Penny from Miranda dancing, like she does in the episode 'Just Act Normal'. We also dance like her as well. SUCH FUN 😂😂😂😂
@@kelly_seastar This was the original version written for the film. They changed it for the film but Elton John recorded it for himself. He did the same with "Can You Feel the Love Tonight."
I prefer this version way over the original, as it is not only catchier but is also free of the disturbing undertones regarding Simba wishing death onto his paternal figure.
Simba was only a child; he didn't know that his dad would have to pass on in order for him to be king. All that mattered to him at that point was the exciting prospect of being king.
it very much sounds like him. I think you're thinking of Elton John's old voice, his voice prior to his drastic voice change (your song, goodbye yellow brick road etc). he still sings the very same way. I'm surprised it escaped you.
Are you ready Bob? Yes. Are you ready Scoop? Yes! Are you ready Thomas? Yes! Alright team, CAN WE FIX IT? YES WE CAN! Uh yeah I think so! Cinders and Ashes!
Most definitely! 😁 Hey! It's "I'm gonna be the main event" Not 'mane' +You have to put a comma between "super" and "awesome" in "My reign will be a super (COMMA!!!!!!!!), awesome thing" line! The rest is OK. Cool tune. Bdst lyrics in it.

Best version of the song. Change my mind.
'It isn't just my right, even my left will be divine' is one of my favourite lyrics of all time.
Elton John never fails me ❤️

Charles? You’re King now. You don’t have to listen to this on your Spotify anymore.

Well said!
It's not a cover, it's the original track/demo.
Cover? He wrote the song lmao
I'm a 90s kid and I had no idea this version existed!! I love it!
Just so you know, it was one of the extra songs on the soundtrack CD from the movie. And if you don't recognize his style and his voice here, don't pretend to know his stuff.
I always pictured lions on motorcycles.
I cracked up at this comment 😂

Lion king 5 be like
Very funny, buddy.
I like the Elton John version of “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” instead of the original version🎧
well this IS the original version 😂
I feel like Elton John tapping my fingers as if I am playing the piano singing along with him!
No one saying do this. No one saying be there. No one saying stop that. No one saying see here!
Free to run around all day! I'll be free to do it all my way!
I heard Elton is gonna perform this at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral
That piano solo is prefect for a pause of words till Elton John repeats the words from before. Very fine work.
Love this. In the 'piano solo' , me and my brother always picture Penny from Miranda dancing, like she does in the episode 'Just Act Normal'. We also dance like her as well. SUCH FUN 😂😂😂😂
For the record the line is "I'm gonna be a noble king; AND scrupulously fair"
Are there multiple versions? I remember the line as "I'm gonna be a mighty king; So, enemies beware."

Simba was only a child; he didn't know that his dad would have to pass on in order for him to be king. All that mattered to him at that point was the exciting prospect of being king.
From the honest trailer... "Oh I just can't wait till dad dies!"
wish it were in the movie. Catchy and lively. Way better than Simba.
I loved this soundtrack growing up and I honestly don't recall this. I'm loving it though.
Thanks for uploading this! Love this version better than other!
Actually this is Elton John, the Just Can't Wait To Be King you are looking for is by Jason Weaver
The only thing missing is that awesome flute riff, y'all know the one I mean.
Guys it's mane, as in a lion's mane it's a pun on the whole "and just a little hair" line
I like this version better than when simba sings it.
Inheritancefreak127 Me too.
I like both versions

Yes.

Yes!
Are you ready Thomas?
Yes!
Alright team, CAN WE FIX IT?
YES WE CAN!
Uh yeah I think so!
Cinders and Ashes!
Elton knows how to free the child within himself!
I love the countrish/australian style.
Such enthusiasm I LOVE IT
underated version
Most definitely! 😁

@@justmichael651 huh you don't say
Hearing this song I just can't help thinking of Prince Charles.
I know right!
amen!! same over here...
It would makes sense especially that parts out needing a little hair. 😂😂😂
I like this one as it has that rock and roll vibe.
LARGER THAN LIFE, such is result of the partnership between Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
I like this version better than the movie's.
Me too.
This is Elton John...I have the cd and it says at the end of the album performed by Elton John...get your facts straight
Anyone in 2021?
Well they had to change it around a bit to make it fit the African vibe
Rock'n Roll!
Right author is Elton John!
This makes me think of a party animal of a girl that is stuck in an uptight household, but just can't wait to be the life of the party in college. :-)

I'm just waiting for someone to say it's mane event instead of main event. Haha they'd be quite wrong.
John king Love you maddie
0:56 Simba s lyrics
I wonder how many times Prince Charles played this..
King Charles right now
Actually switch it around, whoops!
Maybe Elton was pre-empting Michael Jackson's death - i.e. when MJ died EJ became the King of Pop.
It's "I'm gonna be the main event"
Not 'mane'
