  • TFI Thursday! A weekly dive into the Fractal-verse with John Cordy
(Thank Fractal it's Thursday - in case you're wondering!)
‪@johnnathancordy‬ explores the concept of building a rig inspired by the legendary Bob Bradshaw - a rack type rig that would have cost thousands, and weighed....well...Too much...Can easily be replicated here!
Grab all of my presets here: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ and your Fractal unit at www.g66.eu/ - now shipping direct to UK customers from the UK.

Lot of fun to be had digging into the schematics of the classic wet dry wet rigs that relied heavily on parallel processing! I think we're likely to see more folks thinking about alternative routings and ordering as these units become more powerful and the limits disappear. A lot of conventional wisdom and pedal focus masks what was really used in practice. Cheers to John on his explorations of the subject. 👍🏻

Very usable preset so Thanks! Exactly why Fractal is simply the best modeler on planet Earth. This is just my opinion though. I have tried this new product, that new product but nothing has ever knocked my FAS stuff out and I have now, used FAS going on 10 yrs now.

Followed your youtube set up but in the scened with the multi delay there is a delay before the sound comes I thought I had followed your settings but probably screwed up somewhere- Any ideas? many thx

Why would you not place the chorus before the amp? Possibly because it's supposed to be a rack-style rig as opposed to a pedal-style rig?
Not being critical or suggesting, simply asking.

I would guess it would be because it is a stereo chorus and the way he set up this rig the chorus would be mono if he put it before the amp. It's possible to get stereo before the amp with a two amp rig on the AXEFX or the FM9 but not on the FM3.

It was common for a TriChorus to split the signal into stereo _after_ loading an amp head to line level. Likewise it was common to run stereo detune and reverb in parallel before delays in parallel. This is clearly "inspired by," but yes, because it was common to put it after in rack rigs to capture the sounds they got in the studio with post processing.

I have an original DynoMyPiano Tri-Stereo Chorus. It's the Daddy of all choruses IMO... and I've owned a LOT of them over the course of years.
The choruses in the FM9, including their Tri-chorus, are seriously good. I haven't had the FM9 for long, but am extremely impressed with it. @@rockstarjazzcat

Great stuff John, lighter tones than I usually play but this video inspired me to try it myself. Inspiration is always welcome!

Yeah, sound like thin ass digital, no way in hell im paying 100$ to go watch some band play thru these with digital consoles digital pwr amps. sounds like alot of thin fakeness going on. Steve lukather is a thinny tinny sound.

You do realize the early rigs were packed full of early digital? :)
