Happy to see you with your companion fishing. I loved fishing with my red setter Dogood who came from good hunting stock. I didn't have access to bird hunting, but she was a great companion fishing and I occasionally gave her a small fish she would proudly walk around with before burying it. One day beach fishing she brought me big whiting freshly dead. I was a little bit surprised Dogood found the whiting and wondered if she caught it in the surf. A minute later I saw Dogood grab a fish out of a nearby fisherman's bucket. He wasn't happy at all when I returned 2 dog bit fish to him. 20 some years later I still miss that loyal thieving companion.
Yayy! I’m glad you like it! I hope to get some more videos up soon, but it’s SUPER windy here in NC, at least for the next 10 days. I’ll have to scope out a good sheltered creek!
@@finsandfossils yeah you have a good format. Its cool seeing a woman go out on her own fishing adventures. You know your way around a fishing rod and your good eye candy. The fish you have on the east coast are big and plentiful, good sporting fish. I live in oregon we have salmon and trout. But I think you have the best fish
I'm here with lakes, and rivers, walk the banks and love kayak fishing with my 8's. Whiting, one of the first fish I caught when fishing the Gulf, and can't wait to cast again. Just love fishing in the ocean. Your videos are a treat! Your enthusiasm and love for fishing carries throughout your videos.
So I went into the really nice tackle shop to get some bait and gear. The gentleman at the counter was raving about you and you were just leaving. Turns out I had just spent the morning watching your videos to learn how to fish this area! My wife and I thought about saying hey because you had your dog outside but you were on the phone and we didn’t want to disturb you. Anyways, i thought it was really cool seeing you and l love the videos! They’re awesome.
Omg! Always say hi!! I’m participating in the surf fishing tournament this weekend, so I’ll be all over the island. If you see my white and pink Fins and Fossils flag on my cart, or if I’m out and about running around, please say hi!!
We call them southern king fish or whitings here in Florida and they're delicious! I rarely catch blues. I think they might like the cooler temperatures. When I lived in jersey blues were in abundance. Here in Florida they are regulated, 12 inch plus and only 3 a day. Fish on! 😊
Looks like you won't be doing any fishing for awhile; another storms headed your way. That must be hard dealing with hurricanes, im glad I don't have that weather on the west coast!😅
Was fishing where you were this past weekend. Started getting hammered on incoming tide then beach goers started showing up and just crowded me out. Good luck in the tourny this weekend. I'd be there if not for my favorite bar closing down and they are doing a goodbye/thank you party Saturday.
Not sure if I've ever been to Topsail before? My family spent most of our time on Oak Island when I was a kid. Long Beach specifically. My dad loved to catch Kings and they made a strong run thru there spring and fall. I was more into catching thousands of everything else that came along. Later found my way north around Hatteras and Ocracoke getting crazy on 20lb blues and down at Drum Inlet catching 20-40 lb puppy drum all night long till your arms gave out. Last time I went down there years ago I spent a week on the beach day and night and caught 5 puppies total. Biggest was 8 lbs. Sad event. Sure hope it's recovered some since then. Still blows my mind how a fishery that massively strong could be decimated like that while everybody just closed their eyes and let it happen.
Oh geeze, don’t get me started on flounder 🙄 How am I supposed to do a gigging video? I guess I’ll have to do a compilation over several days. Maybe compare different fish activity at different tides. The southern facing beaches (OI) seems to have different underwater landscape, I guess more shallow, less of a drop off. I always found it very “shark-y” there when I visited. We have a deeper drop off on the eastern facing beaches, so that has to affect the fish activity/species? Idk. I’m learning it all.
lol I don't like sharks. Those stupid little sandies would chase after us in the ICW when we would get out of the boat. We'd grab them by the tail and give em a good sling thru the air. lol Biggest I ever saw was a hammerhead many moons ago down at Yaupon. That dude was a solid 10 footer. Saw a guy get a hook in it but it was short lived. Smoked his 12/0 and left him holding the bag. lol They claim they don't get that big but I seed it with my own eyes. :) Flounder giggin. Do it! lol
@@beebop9808 🤣🤣🤣 I’ve caught a few dogfish, but I don’t use steel leader because I have no idea what I’d do with a shark on the beach unless I had backup. I’ve defaulted hooked some sharks before, but they’ve always buy my leader.
You should be encouraged because your videos are terrific. Especially like your kayak videos - lots of enthusiasm, spontaneity and education. I learn from you. I hope you are doing OK, seems like your kayak adventures have fallen off. Oh, and the bikini / beach / music video was well done, too.
The kayak adventures have not fallen off! I’ve been out several times, but haven’t found the fish. Now that it’s warming up, I’ll be out a bunch, and hopefully tracking down the fish. It’s tough when they’re schooled up and you’re just not in the right spot on the kayak. I’ll be rigging up a second camera on the kayak so I should have better footage this season 🤙🏼
Hey Steve! I’ve been learning about water temps, apparently trout like 55, red drum 65-75/80? Apparently we will see more sheepshead very soon. Hands down, big red drum, nothing like that fight.
Well I’ve been surf fishing all over trying to find some trends for the tournament this weekend. I just look on the satellite maps for deep holes in the surf, and check them out.
Hey! That’s a great question, but I’m probably the wrong one to ask, as I’m a bait girl. I’m still playing around with lures. I see people catch them on all kinds of hard and soft plastics. The guy to ask would be @7th_evan_fishing (ua-cam.com/users/7thevanfishing) as he fishes a ton in the area, and uses a lot of lures. He’s got a great channel, and targets many different species in the area, but mostly reds.
This is good, but I like your kayak fishing videos better. I've been wanting to try it and started watching you and you changed your videos. Now what do I do?
Don’t worry, I haven’t changed, I like all sorts of fishing. I’d been preparing for a surf fishing tournament, so I hadn’t been on the kayak much. Now that’s over, I’ll be heading out soon! Promise!
We only got a few more weeks till the prime surf fishing season!!! Im jealous of All those Florida/ Bama youtubers with their warm waters right now haha!
Just found you yesterday, already watched like 6 UA-cam videos ❤️🎉🎉🎉👍👍👍👏👏👏😎
Yayy! Thanks Steve! I’ll have a lot more coming as the fish are BACK!
Best video,love the dog!
Thank you! Too bad I've got to keep my head on a swivel when fishing with him. Maybe I'll take him out early this weekend.... he has fun!
Liked and subscribed ❤️❤️💚💚💚👍👍
Thanks Irfan! 🎣

He’s a mess. Even worse on a boat.

I have black labs so everything I catch they try to retrieve it like when we're in South Dakota hunting 😬😁✌

Everyone has a different name for them here. I call them whiting, because when I think mullet, I think finger/jumping/cobb

This weather has been NUTS!! I need like 3 days in a row where it’s nice and calm and the fish can get into a pattern.
Great videos!

Yeah it can be tough with swimmers. And I just realized this is on Topsail beach, I fished twice that day. 2 spots. I should probably fix that
@@finsandfossils Oh and i forgot to mention. The only thing I got a bite on was a Frisky Fins rig.
@@shane3662 I’ll have to look that up. I’m mainly a bait angler so if it’s a lure I don’t know about it 🤣
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis in your bio. We love Topsail and want to come back.
