Actually, almost the entire script changes when you play as Carnby, as well as animations and behaviors. Additionally, both characters visit exclusive parts of the manor and have an exclusive map. It's a complement of the story and characters, despite things will happen in a different way
I've only seen a tiny bit of his gameplay. Who do you prefer?

Yep, and that level with the bunkers and the world war doesn't show up in Carnby playthrough, it's a entire different level with Carnby's own story on it. Also, the characters treat Emily with respect because she's family but with Carnby is a whole new perspective.
Please do a playthrough as the detective! It's so fun watching someone who understands and appreciates the game ^^
I like how in this playthrough she's just like "huh, fucked shit's happening. well, lets get to it." and with Carnby he's like losing his mind and freaking out the whole time. I really expected Carnby to just be staring at a corner drooling by the end of it.
If it makes you feel better, i didnt find out about the dodge button until the final boss ☠️
Im very honored to have given you the golden dodging ticket hahaha. Truthfully the only reason I found the dodge button in the first place is because I’m relatively new to playing with a PlayStation controller so I take a good 5-10 minutes to hardcore study the controls of each game I play so I don’t get quite as confused while actively playing 😂 if you ever get around to playing Carnby’s half of the story I’d love to see it in the 8 bit style! He tends to make more corny one liners so I think the goofy 8 bit would suit him.

I also cannot help myself. It’s like you can feel nothing but the scab until you pick it off! And the dopamine when you do, immediately followed by regret because “you know better”. Ugh...it’s the absolute worst!
I thought I had OCD because of the compulsive picking. Was just the ADHD lol fidget toys don't help. Cutting my nails didn't help. Moisturizer didn't help. Reading, video games, nothing helps. Lol just kinda live with it now.
@@Alyzzardo a previous therapist of mine suggested gloves. It could be cleaning gloves, biking gloves, gloves for hives, winter gloves, just any kind of gloves. I didn’t end up doing it, but it could be an option for you. Although a bit odd lol. However I don’t know how it would work with touchscreens. Perhaps there are some gloves that makes it possible to still activate the screen? Anyway, wish you the best ^-^
The Prisoner of Ice was a famous point and click adventure from way back when - also with Lovecraftian themes.
Because that game is based on "At the Mountains of Madness", which is a Lovecraft story taking place in the Antarctic. Which is the whole pre-end sequence with Emily Tracking Jacob to the Elder Thing or Mi-Go device.

Cosmic Horror, by it's very nature, is Sci-Fi.
So much of it already deals with 4th and 5th dimensional manipulation and entities. Cosmic Horror is about making the human experience as small and insignificant as possible - about playing with the fact that, for as important as we think we are, and how much of a mastery of the universe we think we have, we are still incapable of understanding anything about anything and we are nothing more than plankton to the Great Old Ones and Elder Gods.
And the series itself (Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice) are packaged as Call of Cthulhu games (though not on initial release it seems), and borrow major plot points lifted directly from Lovecraft's stories.
The alien site in PoI is literally the alien site from At the Mountains of Madness, even though the events take place later.
And a big part of Lovecraft's Mythos is not all "Old Gods driving people mad". There's plenty of exploring the space-faring species that landed on Earth and waged a massive war before humans were " a thing". The Mi-Go (An insectoid race, likely those tough bugs that show up on the Paddleboat in this video), Elder Things and Star Spawn (Cthulhu's children basically) all get in to it.
Antarctica was the big main city for Elder Things, and where they would be entombed (undoubtedly what the Prisoners are supposed to be).
They and the Mi-Go and the Yith have a legacy of so much "accessible" sci-fi, alien technology in the Mythos. Time Travel included.
PoI is not a pure adaptation, but it's more than "loosely based on"
Gab, the Shub-Niggurath is not a cult, but one of Lovecraft’s major creations. The reference to the goat and the thousand young is also a reference to S-N.

I was introduced to Critical Role later on in my life than I was to anime, so watching them was the biggest "holy shit, I know all of their voices" moment for me. One of my favorite characters in anime is Maka Albarn and when I heard Laura in the first Critical Role episode, I paused and had a mini freakout session 😂

This game was amazing, as the only youtuber who actually reads and takes time to understand the lore and figuring out the mystery you are by far the best there is. Everyone else seems to skip and not even listen to the audio notes, which I hate. I just wanted to say you are amazing and thanks for the good gameplay!

I couldn't agree more, this is exactly why I watched this series! I watched another walkthrough from a UA-camr that I've been watching for years and he skipped through all of notes, items, even talked through cutscene and because of that I didn't understand the story whatsoever.
I appreciate this playthrough because she actually took the time to play the notes, listen to the details and see what was actually in front of her.
This was a great playthrough ! I love the design of the different environments and monsters, it was very cool. It would be fun to see 8-bit, Carnby version if you ever feel like playing it. Also the fiancé part, I think it could maybe have been explained better but if I understood well:
Her fiancé didn't die in the WWI but was injured and got PTSD because of the war, and ended up in Decerto. Emily was first known as Mrs. Marcus instead of her maiden name by the orderlies so she must have visited her fiancé (John Marcus) a lot at first, but eventually she visited less because she didn't like seeing her lover sick like that. Then her fiancé died and she regretted not being there for him. Since John died in Decerto, that's why she found his body in the mansion's morgue.
I think it explains why she's so intent on getting her uncle out of Decerto, she feels guilty for not helping her fiancé enough and wants to prevent the same fate for Jeremy. The only thing that doesn't fit the backstory for me was when she found 'her room' in Decerto. Idk if it was just an hallucination from the Dark Man or if the grief over her fiancé's death meant she stayed in the hospital for a bit too? That part was confusing.

@@renanmorimpastor708I think that's part of why people are making these comments. because gab figured that the game would effectively be more or less the same (which is a fair assumption, I figured such as well) but comments such as this one are saying that its actually incredibly different so it could still be worth playing as carnby
It's nice to watch someone play this who understands and appreciates this genre. I watched one streamer play and all they did was make fun of it the whole time; they didn't even take the time to read all the texts and understand the story. I had to unfollow them.
The amount of Lovecraftia packed into this game is impressive. If you haven't read HPL's "The Call of Cthulhu", "Under the Pyramids", and "The Haunter of the Dark" yet then you might want to consider doing so before you play this game, as it would make the experience that much more enjoyable I should think.

It's not often a game or movie is center around Cthulhu's grandma. It was cool how they set her up in the story. Loved it.
This is my second time watching a playthrough of this game and yours was the best one by far!
I cannot believe the amount of people that don't appreciate the voice acted notes in this game, skip over details and not even care about the Lore.

I... have so many questions that probably don't matter in the big scheme of things, but still, I'd like to know. I wonder if they'll be answered in a Carnby playthrough. Things like had Emily's really ever been a patient there, or was the house/ man just messing with her?
Also, I wonder if the Dark Man is an entity assigned to her family to make them confront their demons. That would explain why Emily's husband had his whole plot moment. Bc after she processed it, the Dark Man was like, alright, here you go, lol. She didn't fight it like her Uncle and other family, I assume.
It's so interesting how you think of New Orleans through media. I guess that makes sense, though, because that's how I think of other famous places. But living in Louisiana, I think more of the crime and piss of the streets 😅. I guess when I do think of a piece of media with New Orleans, I always think of the Princess and the Frog. It was the first time as a child that I saw Louisiana as a setting for a movie, and I was so so excited! The Princess and the Frog is still one of my favorite Disney movies because of the nostalgia

Honestly, the only ones who I wanted to survive that end was Ruth, Batiste and his sister along with the 4 main characters who did survive.

Absolutely loved this playthrough. I'm just glad the kid got out alive because Emily went through the trouble of saving her. I just want to say you're not wrong about the dark man looking kind of egyptian but its more nubian/sumerian/greco roman era you can tell by his beard. Please do a detective playthrough if you want of course. Anyway now I need to play Deadtime Stories because this game has me itching to play it. This game also reminds me a little of Skeleton Key.
You really should play as the detective it's completely different and you would probably like it more than this part its way better and all the cut scenes are different
critical role mentioned! as someone who's currently watching campaign one (slowly making my way to more recent campaigns) it's definitely a bit difficult to get through. I put it on the background whenever I crochet lol

As someone who never watched the other Alone in the Dark, let alone played any, I quite liked this. Didn't know people where being negative towards it, but I certainly enjoyed the playthrough, and maybe will ever go back and watch the original and any other you may have played.
Someone probably pointed that out already, but Shub-Niggurath isn't the Cult's name, it's one of the Outer Gods of the Cthulhu Mythos, much like Nyarlathotep.

People are just so hard to please. I remember complaining about the new resident evil games and how they didn't seem to have anything to do with umbrella corporation or the old style. It ended up incorporating Chris and umbrella. The old style started coming back with village. It all grew on me eventually. People will appreciate this game later.

I see it as more of a Dark Young.
The story does a poor job of differentiating, but It's likely a Dark Young.
The Black Goat tends to have a larger, more serious, cult around her, and be depicted as much larger and writhing mass-y. She is also a full old god, even if lesser in scope compared to the others, and if she were to awaken, would fundamentally change the continent and world. You would not be able to placate her with just a Tommy Gun.

I haven't played the original Alone in the Dark game, but this game reminds me of Evil Within as it takes elements from other horror games and films.
1) The bunker section was like Amnesia.
2) The fixed camera angle section was like old RE games.
3) The transitions from place to place are like that in Evil Within.
4) The tree creature attacking everyone scene was like the creature coming out of the ground in Children of the Corn 3.
5) There was a boss fight with a tree monster in Silent Hill Homecoming.
6) The fight at the snow camp reminded me of John Carpenter's The Thing.
7) Some of the creatures in the game look like monsters from Silent Hill and Evil Within.

Okay I was not expecting the constellation of Taurus to play such a big part in this game! It makes me so happy since usually the other Zodiac get all the attention despite the fact that Taurus is the only one that has remained unchanged since ancient Babylon. Sure Gemini is too but originally it was two warriors instead if the twins. Also I wish that Aldebaran was red instead of blue in the first Egyptian puzzle since the actual star is a Red Giant, but I digress.
Also "Kitab Al Azif" is another name for the Necronomicon

I played a lot of CALL OF CTHULHU in college.
So happy Gab came back to this game I was afraid for a sec she probably dropped it after the last part for a while but then I remembered she once said (back when she played Alice Madness Returns) she DOES finish games she plays whether it be on her own or on stream.
Now like I've been saying since this game came out and after playing both campaigns at the same time this was a good remake imo as someone who never played the OG Alone in the Dark trilogy.
I feel Emily is kinda the Ada Wong in this game cuz it's her campaign that fleshes out the story and helps make it make more sense than when playing as Edward which was nice.
That being said...I think they should've improved and tuned certain mechanics better before they released the game like adding weapon upgrades for example.
I get they wanted to preserve as much of the original game as possible which usually is fine I always say a good remake is changing some stuff here and there but keep everything else intact.
However in this case it would've been better if they had added weapon upgrades I'm not saying they should've made the combat RE4 level heavy just enough so our weapons didn't feel like they were purchased at the nearest Walmart is all lmao.
Adding to that the dodge imo isn't the best they could've either improved the dodge mechanic a bit or gave a better overall dodge but that's just me.
All that aside this game's story was okay and one of the very few good aspects of the remake (especially later on when the game in Bloodborne fashion reveals it's true lovecraftian, cosmic horror influence/inspiration.
Oh and not sure if anyone told you Gab but here's a little mind blowing trivia for ya Jeremy's Voice Actor?..
He's none other than the legendary Paul Mercier himself (who voiced Leon in the OG RE4 and the only good voice actor he had in RE4 imo) Let that sink in lol
It's so f***ing wild to think he was voiced by Paul Mercier cuz the way he portrayed Jeremy the way he did is....not like what we expected from Leon's previous VA for sure lmao.
I'm also with Gab I don't watch Critical Role either all the voice actors that appear on there I know them more and PROPERLY from their voice over works Liam O' Brien for example has done alot of character voices over the years.
He did the voice of one of the squad captains in Bleach. He was also the voice actor for Agnes (one of the villains in Devil May Cry 4) just to name a few.

Yess! I actually bought the game after the first episode and came back once I finished the game. Super excited to see what kind of theories she's gonna have about the whole story!
That was absolutely amazing! One of those games you're sad to see end. Just wanted to keep going.
When I hear New Orleans (and it's usually pronounced by others like you said it lol) I immediately think "New Orl'ns" how I pronounce it 😂 I guess if I had to think of a media, I'd say Interview With the Vampire and the scene where someone dies (no spoilers). I cried so much as a kid when I first saw it, and it started my love for vampires.

Some of the laignappe sets unlock SECRET OBJECTIVES< which are basically alternate bonus endings. I've found all the laignappes, but have only unlocked one ending. So far.

This game was kinda confusing to me in the middle of it when stuff was happening so quickly, but the ending really paid off! Wow, that final boss design was so cool and creepy! Gab, I really hope you play through as Carnby! You're my go-to fave horror gamer!
The radio broadcast near the basement and war scene said that the mansion was used as a war hospital, which is why her fiance was there
I remember bearing this game last month and finally sat down to check out your playthrough. Probably my only gripes with the game is how some places seem to cause the sound mixing to bug at times and the frame rate may drop. Apart from that, the game was good and I wish THQNordic would consider taking a chance to bring the rest of the old trilogy into the current gen of gaming. Another thing I enjoyed was a lot of the callbacks to the old trilogy of games, especially through Jeremy's notes and ramblings

But... crawling through a pipe, that is too small for her to fit in, located 2-3 feet (less than, or around, a meter) under the ground, would not make for a good visual atmosphere, or battle ground.
