The fact that it took nine and a half business days for the guy to start the snowmobile and get the hell out dodge made me INORDINATELY angry.

If you listen closely there’s actually a lot of whispering going on in the background, you can hear what I assume is victor say things like “don’t trust her”, “she’s the reason I’m dead”, “she’s a liar”. I only noticed closer to 50 minutes but maybe there’s more. Pretty cool little detail.
For me, it was the fact that she got out “through another exit”. If the one entrance was frozen, then the mc should have tried the “another exit”. But, there wouldn’t be one. Except the vent system, which the flesh could fit through, but nothing else.
Called it then and there.
they forgot halfway through that the light made the cells go into hibernation.
this was so annoying to me cause when the did this whole talk of "oh i discovered that having light shine on them made it fall asleep and being in dark made it active" i was ready for them then giving you sort of a way to manage against the monster, like having to shine the flashlight on it to stop it biting or something but it felt like nothing was actually done with that information

The combo of the snowstorm and those dogs are giving me serious John Carpenters "The Thing" vibes.
The lip syncing in this game is terrible it's way off.
I'm sure that was the vibe the developers were going for. Unfortunately, I don't like games that are so linear that you can't interact with objects or do anything except for follow the chain of events the developers scripted for the player. 'The Thing' is one of my favorite horror movies and I would love to see someone make a game with that premise that was of better quality. But, once I saw that Gab couldn't grab the flashlight even though we all knew she was going to need it later, I realized that this was another one of those games where you're basically on rails and have no real agency as a player.
As soon as I saw the title of the video, I thought Yup that's the thing. Lol.

@@brianlawson3757 - there's a game based off one of The Thing back in 2002, sort of a spinoff sequel to the 1982 movie but as a 3rd person shooter and that your companions could sometimes mutate into monsters. Kubzscouts has a playthrough of that game which is how I found out about it, though he's definitely the exact opposite of a chill cozy gamer personality-wise
Great video, I did Victors voice and Zvezda station voice. Yes, I did do a hank hill impression for Zvezda. I did it as a inside joke for myself, I didnt expect everyone to instantly think hank hill 😂. As others have asked, no there were 0 AI voices in this game. Maya was voiced by youtuber Kwirkee and the man at the end of the game is streamer TTone. I also helped with some game ideas, like the creepy whispers were my idea.
I didn't get AI Voice vibes, but I did get vibes of VAs doing their best with little to no direction and/or working off an incomplete script
Which I don't say to disparage the devs, who, I assume, don't have a ton of experience (everyone's gotta start somewhere!), but because I want to give y'all kudos for working with what you were given!!

I think at some point when she talks about the rag she uses to clean up she says Raj instead. So either nobody cares to do another take or it's definitely ai
I also got that vibe, and I feel like such a downer because I'm 99% sure the game was made by a Russian solo dev, so I hate to complain about either the voice acting OR the writing itself, but... yeah.
It's a 5€ indie so I'm sure the dev figured that it was AI or no voices at all, so I guess it's not a huge deal, but does leave a sour taste 👀
Someone in the comments claimed that they voiced two characters and that none of the voices are AI. It's probably just D-tier voice acting, done by amateurs or people without a skilled director.
@@maybeyourbaby6486 Writing is free, being indie is far from an excuse for a game to be bad. The only limiting factor for an indie game is the voice acting, but it is hardly the worse of the problems in this game.
To be fair, any animal that’s good at seeing “in the dark” is really good at seeing “in low light”, or navigating by other means. This is in a bunker, so they’d have no ambient light and be as blind as people, without some kind of other light source.

Any horror that takes place at a scientific base in frigid temps always makes me think of The Thing, but as soon as I saw the dogs I knew it was purposeful with this.
Just in case a dev reads this: when you're doing radio static, have the voice actor say the entire line normally, and then use editing to overlap static onto it, and mix the sound from the voice and static so that the parts you don't want the player to hear can't be heard. This will allow you to avoid the VO sounding like someone reading partial lines the way it happens in this game. It isn't significantly more time intensive than writing a partial script, recording a partial script, and editing static into the gaps, but it feels and sounds significantly better.

For real, and her gentle whisper voice, regardless of the situation, and her complete professional ineptitude in cleaning up biological samples. Hell, all the samples were contaminated anyway because her hair was down and her skin exposed. 🙄🙄🙄
Most likely the model was pre-made as an asset and the game developer just bought it from a game asset store. Very common in indie games.
This did not need a romance subplot. The conversation with Victor made me cringe.

the biggest that annoyed me with this game is the pacing honestly. like thomas seems like he has the memory span of like 10 seconds and can only process one step ahead of himself. he goes to check if victor and/or maya escaped through the main exit, he sees the door frozen shut and concludes that they didnt and they should still be in the bunker so he goes to look around some more. then after the dogs disappear thomas finally says "fuck this im outta here" and then wades through all the growths and the mess that crowds the bunker and only when he gets to the frozen doors again, hes like "oh, i need a shovel for this. its at the opposite end of the bunker." like i understand its supposed to show a sort of Before and After of the organism spreading through the environment, but that could have been better displayed by an animation of the growths spreading across a whole room in a flash and still been just as disconcerting.
and the same thing with victor in the hangar, finding him, going to get a crowbar to help him, getting the keys to the 3rd floor office from his corpse and free maya (which??? didnt we literally get spare keys to the building from the break room and they didnt open a single thing???), then going back to the hangar near victor's body to get a battery for the radio, then coming back one more time to get the snowmobile keys and gas that were ALSO on victor's body. and he kept forgetting about the snowstorm despite the fact hes been running around in it without any thermal gear??? maybe i just dont have the patience this morning lol 2.5/5 stars for the game but 5/5 for the video, as always
and the VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL of “hibernates in light” like if you were a scientist you dont just forget things like that!!

I think I actually saw Séan play one with a gnome. I think same ongoing normal vibe then everything goes haywire at the end. It was terrifying and I watch some decently scary horror movies.

the dialogue and text-to-speech voices were maybe not the best, but the environments were so pretty and the audio design was STELLAR! The noises were really creepy and unsettling and I love the way the voices of Victor and the dogs could still be heard. That _”Run.”_ jumpscare got me GOOD, that was a good setup.
I totally agree with a post before here. "The Thing" movie was the first I had im my mind when I saw the cage with the dogs. Thanks for showing us Gab😊😊👍👍

Also when the dogs started barking and then it turned to whimpers I went "Oh no, they got Thing-ed"
I’m pretty sure the settings have the head bob turned on, it looked like the tab when it’s bright is the indicated one but it was confusing lol, I have to look away occasionally because it’s so bad and I don’t even really get motion sick, it was just dizzying

Going to be honest, it feels like halfway through the plot was tossed out the window. (Long text)
Lets begin from the first half towards the second; we heard Victor getting attack hard in an area we may not be able to reach and sounded pretty nasty. But somehow he not only managed to get out but acted like he was out there for a while and that now he was really injured?
Then the snowed-in doorway; how did the two managed to escape and get outside? There's no hint at any other exit. Furthermore, where did all the blood even came from if both were alive?
Third is the whole mistrust here between Maya and Victor; obviously, both were human but feels like it was trying to lure in the direction that one wasn't. So what happened here? Was Maya trying to leave with the samples alone? She already said she was scared of what she had found so why bring them with her when she was uneased at them?
Finally, and this is the glaring one, we are told that light brings the cells of these creatures into dormancy while they can multiply in the dark. I can understand being lured by light but once touched by light they wouldn't spread much and light can cover a fair amount of ground through varying light levels. As such, in many instances, the characters would have been fine and safe. Hell, the Dogs would have been safe. So what happened there?
I feel like whoever made this didn't really grasped the nature of John Carpenter's "The Thing" since it was obviously inspired of it; characters didn't sabotage others unless they themselves were one of the aliens. For this to work, reasonable doubt and creepiness was needed between the crew... and that would mean a lot of interaction and slow burn on the fear.
Also, these inconsistencies makes it feel like two different people were working on either half. But if it was the same people or person for both then... they were probably adding as they were thinking and forgot what were the main points.
EDIT: Fixing typos.
EDIT 2: Also... what turned off the light? This is what causes the biggest issue. I mean, it's implied something happened before the MC wakes up but... if both were human and one is obviously bothered by the samples... then how are they in the dark? Because again, if there was light, it wouldn't spread or grow.
We are also told it was released into the water supply through an accident, alright understandable but that would mean it would need to crawl out of the water pipes and into the light to even reach the generator, which again, impossible.

I don't get motion-sick easily but for this one I had to look away repeatedly... No matter though, Gab is giving excellent commentary so I can still follow.

Im only at the 15 minute mark so I may be wrong, but i feel like Gab hasnt seen Carpenters 'The Thing' or the xfiles episode in the arctic. This game is really capturing that vibe. Hope its good!
I haven't finished the video yet because I paused it to make this comment but I have two theories as to why Maya said we had died, the first is that we did actually die, but pulled an "Ethan Winters" by coming back to life as a mold person, or we didn't die, but Maya told the other station that we had died, because it would make it easier for them to leave us with the monster, and they wouldn't go looking for us, since if they did try to find us they would be more at risk the longer they stayed with the monster looking for us, but also because we were pretty much "missing, presumed dead." at that point, but when we turned out to be alive the statement she made became a lie.
"Well actually... Victor is in pieces.." Hahaha that made me laugh, thank you Gab!😁

I can’t remember the last time I was so easily invested in a indie horror. I love Gab’s indie horror to watch when I’m feeling all types of emotions, but this one in particular genuinly sucked me in. It’s a problem I have these days cause I’m so stuck in my head or easily triggered- but idk, this game had integrity, intrigue, cinematicsm, passion, energy and love put into it. The lighting was amazing and the set/bit pieces were well executed. The monster could’ve been scarier but a great game overall. I probably won’t get this first feel experience again but I’m happy I had it, again, with our Lord and Savior, Goobers

Good use of assets and sounds, and the subject matter is definitely hitting the right feels. The animation is a bit rusty and the general flow of the story isn't incorporated enough into gameplay. Gab is right about the preamble scenes being unnecessary. Starting from the point where you pick up the flashlight would have worked better.
Want to watch this but I’m already feeling motion sickness..

the unfortunate 180 the storytelling took when it initially said that the organism goes dormant when light is shined on them, but then having thomas beg maya to turn off the light so the creature wouldn't attack her -_-

so when Thomas finally got a clear signal and managed to contact the outside, he just radioed them to come help, told them about some of the insane stuff going on, but *didn't* tell them about maya wanting to take the samples with them to the outside world, despite having literally just saying he should warn the outside of it? Why the heck did he not mention it? Especially since he literally bails and leaves in the snowmobile rather than stay to tell the chopper to NOT pick up maya, good job damning the entire world buddy, good job
